- Q: Ok, I cant offer much help but I have wanted one of these chairs for a while but I don't know what it's called. Here is the only picture I could find without the name.
- It's hard to tell in the picture, but it appears to be a pair of high-backed wing chairs. The style of the back with the puckers and buttons is called tufted. This style of a low-backed sofa is called a chesterfield. You can look up images online to see examples. The arm is rolled, and the trim is called nail head trim. And of course, the material is leather. These chairs look like the type that would be found in a fancy home library or in an elite country club setting or maybe even an exclusive pub. I don't think a similar chair would be hard to find. But if the back is as high as it appears to be, that may be a hard part to come up with.
- Q: I was wondering how to make a simple slip cover for a regular metal folding chair.
- For the back of the chair, try a pillowcase on it and see how it fits. What tucks do you have to make? Then try it on the seat. What type cover did you want? A full cover so you don't see the legs? You did not say. I would cut up a sheet, in fact you could use sheets if you do not want to invest in upholstery type fabric. They are washable too. Try a piece on the seat, let it hang to the floor in front, and extend up over the back of the chair until it reaches the floor below. Then you could sew the two backs together till it comes to the seat, stop there. Then you need to sew a piece to each side down to the floor. Then sew up the corners. Hem the bottoms and put a bow or Velcro fastener to the back of the seat corner, or pin it and then sew it, but you have to leave a little room so you can slip it on and off.
- Q: I have a padded computer chair which the seat part has now been flattened (due to much use) and is no longer comfortable. Doe anybody know any way to fix this at home? or can recommend any places where i could get it repaired? The chair was about $200 so anything more expensive to repair it would be a waste. Thanks :)
- You may be able to reupholster it yourself depending on the chair and whether you can take it apart. The seat was put together in pieces so there should be some way to take it apart. Unless you are handy this might be a challenge and depending on how your chair is constructed this could end up being a problem. Reupholstering might be half your purchase price but I'd check with a local upholsterer. There are seat cushions that you can purchasing in stores like Target, if you go to the section where they have tablecloths/napkins/linens. They are premade and designed to work on wood chairs and are about 1-2 thick. You could also go to the outdoor furniture section and look for seat cushions - those would be a lot thicker, designed for outdoor furniture. A less refined option would be getting some foam from a fabric store and cut it to size to fit the chair, then cover it with fabric.
- Q: I am repairing one leg of a mortise ant tenon teak chair. The joint has come loose and I dont really want to take the whole chair apart to fix one leg. I know you are supposed to rub the joint with acetone before gluing in up. The problem with that is that I cannot do a good enough job of cleaning the wood as the mortise and tenon is just loose and there is no real way of taking it apart. My question, id there a way of getting the glue sufficiently in the joing without taking the chair apart. Secondly, what glue could I use that doesnt require rubbing the piece with acetone. Thanks
- Try Murphy's Oil Soap (found in local grocery or mass merchant) and a non-scratch pot scrubber (it's like plastic steel wool). This should take off dirt, dust, and gunk without harming the natural finish.
- Q: I am purchasing chair covers for my reception. My issue is to buy them only for head table and reserved tables or cover every chair. The chairs the hall have are plastic and better then metal, but I am unsure if I want to pay for all the chairs to be covered. Will it look funny if I do only a few tables to signify them as reserved?
- As okorder or 2 a local fabric store -Joanne's) and do them yorself.
- Q: manual wheel chair
- I hope the other chairs were nice to it before it's sold up the river.
- Q: i just got 2 kittens yesterday and all they do is pretty much stay under my rocking chair. their 4 months old but i don't know how to get them out from under the rocking chair without hurting them. please help i want to spend time with them and have fun with them.
- New homes usually take cats awhile to adjust to...it is normal. When you say 'rocking chair' and are referring to a LazyBoy type of recliner here is what I did. I adopted two cats last April and they too hid under the recliner. I was concerned about them getting hurt if someone sat in the chair and started rocking. Get behind the chair and tip it forward all the way. The little darlings will usually run to another hiding place. Take two pillows and stuff them into the cavity that is the underside of the chair. Put the chair back to it's original position and check to see if there is any spots that the kitties can access. Add one more pillow to the back of the recliner kinda stuffing partially under the recliner. This method stopped my new babies from getting underneath the recliner. Before you do this to the recliner you may want to go around your place and kitty-proof each room. Look low and eliminate places they can hide that you don't want them to hide in. It'll be worth it.
- Q: I am interested in getting the Inglesina table chair from Amazon but I am not sure if it is durable. I want something portable for outing and use at home. I am tired of putting him on my lap while eating or feeding him at the table. I have a counter height table and a high chair is not in the right height. I need some suggestions to which product is the right choice. Thanks in advance.
- Those chairs saved my life, I would highly suggest them. I have 2 young kids and my kids used them from 6mos -3 years...I'm not sure how strong your 5 month old is, but at 6 months my son sat in his while he ate his cereal... I had high chairs, but these chairs just latched on to the island.. They have safetly buckles and stuff too. They'd just sit in those chairs and eat while i was cooking dinner... they'd just be suspended and out of the way, i rarely used thier high chairs as they were a pain in the butt... these are easy to clean and very durable. Plus you can take them off, fold them up and take them with you... So much easier than clunky boosters and high chairs... Plus your kids are up and off the ground, they eat and feel like they are really part of the family... clean up is a breeze sweep under the chair ...
- Q: i bought this zebra chair from Rooms to Go but i realized that i dont want to do the zebra theme anymore. i want to try and reupholster this chair with a lilac cotton fabric, but I dont know how. HELP!This is what the chair looks like:
- Take careful notes of how the old fabric and stuffing etc. comes off and then put the new fabric back the same way.
- Q: I'm new to trying D-I-Y projects and I just bought a rocking chair in great condition for a steal, but I hate the designs and I need a project for it. It's stained a dark brown and has these weird fruit designs on it. How do I get the stain off? And does anyone have any cool ideas for the finishing touch??
- Good timing. I'm sitting at the console at work in a rocker chair. Bored and restless, rocking trying to stay awake.
