Q: I am having someone put in carpet tiles in a house and we have the carpet pad to go underneith. Does it go, Carpet pad, glue, and then carpet tiles? What should I tell them?: I've never heard of any one putting carpet pad down before applying carpet tiles. I have seen them install regular carpet they always glue the pad down place the carpet on top of that. If you don't get a better answer to your question I would call Home Depot ask them. I did find the instructions below for installing carpet tiles but no mention of carpet pad. DIRECT STICK CARPET TILES The carpet tiles are adhered to the sub floor using Roberts 656 Carpet Tile Double Bond Underlay Adhesive. The sub floor should first be primed with Roberts 370 Floor Wall Primer prior to the application of the carpet tile adhesive. If the carpet tile is laid into a wet film of adhesive it forms an almost permanent bond between the carpet tile and sub floor. The carpet tiles may also be laid into the adhesive when it has dried to a clear tacky film allowing them to be more easily removed if repairs or replacement is required.

Q: What can I use to hold rugs in place throughout the house I just moved into a new place and the floors are really slippery the rugs aren't helping a lot.: If you go to any type of cvs/walgreens or even target. Go to the section that has the kitchen area and pick up a roll of rubber mats. They are supposed to be for the cup boards as liners. They work great for this too. They are great you can cut them and place them under the rug they will keep the rug in place. I think that they are made by rubber maid and come in all different colors. I have my children place them in there rooms under their trophy's and glass items they work great.

If I have to rip the carpet out how do I replace that patch?: I recommend renting a carpet steamer and running the spot over a few dozen times, if that doesn't work then you might need to patch it, alternatively any Non-bleach cleaner (Unless your carpet is white) and a lot of elbow grease has never been known to hurt

Thanks!: Hi Claire, In choosing a Rug which lasts approx 10 years or more I would suggest that in this case you choose a neutral color. I realize many may think that Tan, Taupe or Light Gray. are a safe choice and so basic. But with that said Carpeting can expensive. Changing the Wall Paint is far more cost effective. In the future, you may decide to use another wall color paint in the room. Tan, Taupe or Light Grey would be my thoughts for you ! * All of the above mentioned colors come in a variety of many shades. I also suggest taking a Paint chip with you to the store for comparisons if you are concerned. Tan/Taupe will provide an earthy color to the room, while Gray colors are visually cool color.
