- Q: My cousin spilled nail polish all over the carpet! How can we get it off the carpet and wall?
- Often nail polish on carpet is just on the very tips of the fibers. If this is the case you can just snip the polish off with sharp scissors. Just cut the very tips of the fibers. Work slowly. Don't cut a single millimeter more than you have to and pull up while cutting. This will help prevent divots in the carpet. Try your best to do just one or two fibers at a time...not a whole clump. This will work unless you have used nail polish remover and worked the nail polish deeper into the carpet. Good luck. -
- Q: I have an area rug that my poodle urinates on when she's mad at me. Long story short she did it again while I was out and I didn't find it until it was dry and smelling up my apartment. Does anyone have tips on how to clean the rug myself without renting a shampooer and maybe how to deodorize the rug. I've tried fabreese and the baking soda stuff you leave on the carpet and vacuum up later. they didn't seem to work before so If anyone has anything else to suggest I'd be most grateful.Thanks
- Baking soda is a good one which you've already used. Mix baking soda and ammonia together and hot water. Put a few heavy towels or something absorbent under where your poodle urinates and just pour the solution onto the urine places and allow it to sit on those spots a good while to soak through it. Pull the heavy towels you had under it and put them into your washing machine. Grab more dry towels and put them under the spots again. Now pour white vinegar and hot water over the same spots and allow that to soak through again. Grab those towels and wash them too. It should have cleaned the area rug as much as possible this way. A lot of work but worth saving your area rug and getting the oder out. I bought a small green spot bot steam cleaner and use it on spots and the suction for pulling out solution works great for these jobs. You might have a lot of use for one these machines around your apartment. Best of Luck to you.

- Ask the Home Depot people, too, cause they know all the latest stuff, but that Resolve worked for me with other stains. If you ever drop something like that again (a dry powder), vacuum it up first. Then, use the carpet stain remover. good luck.

- try some diaper soaker .first try iit onsome part oof the rug that can't be seen in case it takes the colour of the rug out .then use it carefully ,not too much soaker.about half a cup in a litre of water get as much of the poop off as you can before you start then gently drawing the stain to the center from each side dab on the diaper soaker. you will need to put the soaker in some warm water. when you think you have got it cleaned up get a micro cotton towel and put it over the stain and stand on it .this will soak up most of the water .you may have to repeat this to get it all out .

- yes you can go to home depot and rent your own carpet cleaner from them .they take like 40$ from you to rent one.

- Q: I thought my rug would smell better after a whole day in the sun on my patio but it rained and it got wet I dried it again in the sun and now it stinks!I have brown stains on the BACK of the rug.I cant throw away the rug..it's beautiful.I can hire prof cleaners dont have steam/carpet shampooer.If you suggest home remedies, pls specify exact proportions.I guess I'll have to wash it with mild soap water in my tub let it dry in the patio again?
- Here is what I would do: Step 1: Wash the patio until it is very clean--use a tiny bit of dish soap if you have to. Step 2: Lay the rug out on the patio and get a good carpet shampoo and clean the rug outside on the patio (no water tracked through the house) with the garden hose. Step 3: Hang the rug in a safe clean area to dry. Try to avoid areas where kids and pets could knock it down or get it dirty. Also, avoid hanging it somewhere where dirt could get blown onto it. Remember, the sun can cause discoloration. Step 4: After rug is dry, bring inside and place back on the floor in the respective place. Spray the rug with Febreeze fabric refresher until it is damp. It should dry within 2-3 hours (max) and it will be fresh and clean. Tip: If it is supposed to rain or it looks/smells like it is going to rain, don't wash the rug. You need to allow it adequate time to dry. You will have a mildew smell in the rug if you don't. Also, if there is no moving air outside and it is really humid, the rug could still get a mildew smell. Make sure that the place that you choose to hang the rug to dry has moving air. Good luck!
