- Q: I recently moved into my first apartment and its pretty nice except for the carpet in the living room. Its a kight green color and it's just full if stains. I would love to just put a new carpet in but thats not really practical because I'm just renting the place. It waould cost stanley steamers about $100 to clean it but this carpet is really old and stained. Would it even be worth that? I'm afraid I'm gonna spend the money and it's still gonna look gross
- As a professional carpet cleaner this comes up a lot. Our policy is we will try a spot/stain or two (usually the worst) to give you an idea of what the carpet will turn out like. If you don't think it will turn out the way you like that's it we leave. No reputable carpet cleaner will guarantee a spot or stain will come out until they try, because they can't tell for sure until they try. A carpet cleaner can tell if some stains are likely to come out but cannot guarantee it. As an incentive to get your lanlord to pay for the carpet cleaning you can point out carpet cleaning is tax deductable for a landlord.(which is why mony landlords ask you for the reciept, for their files of course, if you get the carpets clean) but thats another story
- Q: The carpet will go in a finished basement. The basement has bare concrete right now.
- If your basement is at most, a little damp, then I'd hesitate before putting in carpeting. You don't want mold to form under the carpet. Try to dry the basement out first. Maybe all you need is a good dehumidifier that you will continue to run. If you're not sure about the floor, do a simple test. Tape a 3x3 foot plastic sheet onto the floor. Seal all edges. Come back in a few days. If there is moisture between the floor and plastic, don't finish the basement floor with carpet. Once the basement is dry, just put an 8-pound pad under the carpet. You don't need roofing felt under it. If you are gluing carpet or carpet squares directly to the floor, be sure to seal any and all cracks in the cement first. Also, use a water-soluble glue in the event that you have to rip up the carpet due to a flooded basement. Don't cover the drains with carpet or, at least, mark them off so you can find them later. There is a spray mold-retardant that can be applied to the carpet after it is laid down. We had that done in our basement. I'm not sure if that can be done prior to laying the carpet, i.e., to spray the floor and/or the padding first.

- defiantly carpet for bedroom. i had hardwood through out house and recently got carpet in bedrooms and its almost a luxury now when you step out onto it from the cold hardwood

- Yes it will. In my room, the carpet I'm sitting over right now, used to shed like crazy! It's been about a year and it hasn't shed in several months. Time will fly by and you just need to be patient. If you really love it, it will be worth it.

- Find a good carpet cleaner. ;) Depends on the color of the carpet, really. Find a mild cleaner -- or even laundry soap, if you aren't sure what cleaners to use -- and put a bit on the carpet. Get a toothbrush or something that can really get in the carpet and scrub as hard as you can. Rinse w/hot water, blow dry it and see how it looks. Oddly enough, I just finished scrubbing hot sauce out of a white area rug thanks to my kid. ha!

- Price will tell you the quality. But in general look how thick it is. Thin carpets are usually not the best quality.
- Q: kids had a musrard fight on a neutral colored carpet
- Hi, Unfortunately there is nothing that will take out a mustard stain, it depends on how old the carpet is, but you could try to claim on your warranty through the manufacturer wether it's shaw, Mohawk, Gulistan, etc.. ask where you bought the carpet and make a claim. Unfortunately under a stain warranty coffee, tea and mustard are not covered but you could try. What has happened is that the yellow from the mustard has thoroughly died the carpet fiber from it's original color.. Any harsh cleaner will discolor the carpet so be careful...Try the cleaning line by Capture..they have it at Lowes or Home Depot in the flooring dept. It's really good. - Use tea, borax with warm water to wipe, and then sprinkle several borax, slightly dry, use clean water to rinse, can use 10% glycerol solution to rub clothes which are contaminated by coffee or other drinks. Using diluted ammonia also can be remove, can wash with 70-80% hot water immediately: 10)the nature of rubbing the carpet and clothes is almost the same. Silk and wool fabric can't be washed by ammonia, can refer to the following. Or paint glycerin on stains, can use glycerin and egg yolk mixture to wipe, use boiling water to soak, then rinse after using detergent. Old tea and coffee stains can also be washed by using salt or glycerin solution. Old tea stains can be cleaned by concentrated salt water, then rinse with clean water, or use a mixture of ammonia and glycerol (1. 3% hydrogen peroxide solution can be used to wipe old coffee stains

- definite, I had maneuvered a 6'X9' (4A great Heavy) Flokati (sheepskin) rug over a deck railing to air out whilst I buffed my flooring. whilst i attempted to retrieve the rug by using pulling it off the railing....I lost my stability whilst it finally gave way, I fell backwards and the burden of the rug pinned me down for numerous minutes till i might desire to finally place my feet to scoot out from decrease than it. Now i'm getting somebody to help me once I do this!
