Q: Why are vacuum cleaners quiet in the TV adverts?: Funny, funny, funny! The question is what would it look like if the average man had designed it? I'd have to go with - Charles Laughton's version of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame Man's slanted view! (and by the way - I'm not sure where from - I think that I must be turning into Ozzy Osbourne) Again - nice one!.......Laughing!

Q: I essentially am looking for a carpet/floor upright vaccum cleaner. I was looking around in stores and found a lot of choice however. I notieced the following things about various brands.1. Bissell = Seems to be the cheapest and offers more features for it's price but looks kind of flimsy. Is this a good brand. Offers 1 yr warranty.2. Dirt devel = Cost a little more and looks better. Offers 2 yr warranty?3. Hoover = I know this is a well known brand but all I was able to see was the steamvacs. My mom had one and it's about 4 yrs old. Its very good still cleans up.Also I noticed Canaster Vacuum cleaners. What are the advantages of these? What is the purpose of having a canaster? I just don't want to get a habbit of purchasing a vacuum every 1 year because it breaks....: It depends on how much you are willing to spend. I have a Rainbow and it's the best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned. It is bagless, the dirt from the floors goes into a container you put water in and trust me, it pulls things out of my carpet that I didn't know were there. An added bonus is you can add air freshners to the water and it makes your house smell so good after vacuuming. It is of the cannister type comes with standard attachments. I, like you have pets in the house to me, it is the only way to go. Rainbow's are expensive though but you might luck up and pick up a used one. Good luck in your quest!

Q: why do we use the word vacuum? is a vacuum created inside the appliance?: Fan blades turned by a motor create a suction (partial vacuum' inside the machine which sucks up the dirt. It's similar to you drinking a liquid with a straw. You stick one end of the straw into the liquid and suck on the other end. You create a vacuum inside the straw and it sucks up the liquid to fill the empty space (vacuum).

Q: With Mother's Day around the corner I thought I'd ask something we all can use.There seems to be this idea floating around that many women don't like to receive things like vacuum cleaners, irons, etc. and would rather recieve something more sentimental in value. Men, on the other hand, love receiving tools and things that they can use to do things with.Most of the women in my family like getting things they can use like a vacuum cleaner or something to cook with, so I have to wonder if that thought is really true. So women, if you received a vacuum cleaner or some similar gift, would you be offended by it? If you would be, why? Is it implying that you are the homemaker because you're a woman?: Women do not like to get practical gifts for romantic events like anniversaries. We just don't, and I'm a practical person. And if you think that giving her a vacuum cleaner for a gift would motivate her to clean, you are so far off base it's not even funny. It would probably offend her, so if you want to see a fourth anniversary I wouldn't do it.

Q: vacuum cleaners are pink for little girls BUT any sex can grow up and vacuum.....WHY?: eh, boys are just into that, as a girl, I don't think most of us ever really cared, I still don't. To me it's a piece of metal you can get places in- for boys there's this whole facination with the actual car I agree, I find the vaccum cleaners offensive, though!! The other car I had at the time was a hatch back. well, the clip on it had broken and I was traveling down the highway back home when the back flew open and my vacume took off, hit the ground........................ I was driving like 60 on that freeway and looking out my rear view window at my horror, the poor thing was sparking all over the place and other cars were dodging it in it's pass as it was litterly cruising backwards at high speed! I sincerely hope it didn't cause any accidents but I could have been cited for that. Nevertheless, I had the back door fixed and have a different car now. Q: What type of motors are used by vacuum cleaners?: high rpm (10k-19k) low hp ac motor. very loud They have to have tons of air moving by them and they're duty cycle is still low.

Q: ok i was going to vacuum both the carpet and hardwood but i don't know how to change the sliding thing on the bottom of the vacuum and where to put it should i just put it on hard? making sure because i dont want to ruin the hardwood Thanks!!!!!: most vacuums will scratch up hard wood floors so it is better to dust mop it.
