Q:YAHOO ANSWERS TOOK MY PREVIOUS QUESTION DOWN SO NOW I HAVE TO ASK AGAIN - does it need it to vacuum: It completely depends on the vacuum cleaner whether the hose must be in place or not for the floorhead to have suction. Most of the cheap vacuums require the hose to be holstered because suction is through the hose, not other ducting. Dyson is an example of a vacuum that can be used with or without the hose in place.

Q:Why do diesel locomotives sound like loud vacuum cleaners when they are running power. Does it have to do with gas combustion?: power makes noise. sure, the noise could be muffled better -- which would reduce power output and require more engines burning more fuel to move the same total load. why don't locomotives use less noisy engines? effectively the only less noisy engine is third rail electric. [gas turbines can't be used -- the gas is explosive in ordinary air and thus huge hazard in derailment or other accident.] third rail electric is very expensive of installation cost -- so much so that it is impractical [too expensive] for all but the most frequently used trackage.

It does a great job, but also will run you close to $500. My less expensive Bissel Pet Hair Eraser was repaired under warranty 3 times and died again right after the warranty expired. Since pressure is equal to force/area. im trying to make my vacuum cleaner ultra powerful. thank you.: No it will not increase. The velocity at the nozzle will increase but lifting power will not, it will pick up small objects better but not larger ones. The danger is that most vacuum cleaners rely on the flow of air through the motor to cool it, when you reduce this by restricting the nozzle you may overheat and burn out the motor !
