Q: Out of the blue, my main bathroom that guests primarily use starting having an earthy smell coming from the sink drain. Its on the main floor, and there are no floors above it (in other words, not another sink above it). Q: The sink in my bathroom is backing up. Does anybody have any trick to unclog it. I'm not sure about using drain'o. I heard that just makes it worse.: Sometimes Drano will work. It depends on what's in the drain. It may require taking the drain apart. Under the sink is a U shaped pipe. That is probably where the plug is. With luck you have a drain plug at the bottom of this U. If so just remove that and fish around inside with a wire. If you don't have a drain plug there (most likely not) unscrew the first big nut around the pipe you come to at either end of the U. You will probably need a pair of channel locks or a pipe wrench for this. Wiggle the U shaped pipe around and take it loose. Pour water and whatever the plug is into a bucket and replace pipe. Put pan under drain before loosening bolts because you will have a water leak. Should drain sink as much as possible before you loosen the pipe. You may need to replace pipe washers and wrap threads with plumbers tape before reinstalling. Both washers and tape won't cost more than $5.00.

Even if it isn't right at all, I'd still be grateful for input.: Depends on how handy you are. Sound like there is sediment clogging the openings. If you want to tackle the job yourself, then go under the sink and turn off both valves in the lines to the faucet. Then remove the retainer ring around the handle. May have to remove handle with allen wrench first and then the retainer ring. Lift out the ball and check for any clogs internally in it. Remove carefully the rubber O rings in the cavity where the ball was, and then put a rag over the fixture and slowly turn on the valves under the sink to flush out the lines. When lines are running clear, then replace the rubber O rings and then the ball and retainer ring.

Q: I already tried lemon juice, baking soda, comet. Please help me: I've not seen it in a while, but there is a product called Restore4. That stuff is sprayed on the dry sink and scrubbed off maybe 15 minutes later. But do the whole sink because it will look brand new. The stuff is amazing. There is two sizes of P-trap, 1 1/4 or 1 1/2. Take the old one to Lowes, and they will fix you up.

Q: how d i caulk around the sink it seems that im mentally challenged at caulking. i do all of the house repairs with ease just not this. its a circular sink and the old stuff failed after 10 years. i bought GE 3 hour silicone shower caulking to do it with the caulking gun. when i start applying it it looks good and every thing then i go to wipe it then it spreads onto the counter top and sides of the sink. then when im trying to clean it up with a rag it picks the caulking up fine but then takes out allot of the stuff i just put around the sink and looks un even. then by the time i clean one part it has started to dry then i go wipe the other part and it goes into balls. honestly i dont know how to do it. any help would be great.: When I was remodelling and putting in the bathroom sinks (3) I got a tip from my brother in law, mr fix it all. Dip your finger in rubbing alcohol, the kind for your skin to clean your lines of caulking up with. You can dip a rag in it or a paper towel and clean up the edges or where you smeared it. That will work. It cleans up, just fine that way. Try it. Good luck!
