Q: Can old speaker wire cause a little static sound??
The only way I could see old wire causing what you describe is if there is a lot of oxidation on the part where it is making contact. It is possible, but not likely and just simply jiggling things should cause the oxidation to come off, if that is what it is.
Q: Does lime wire add a lot of pop-ups and slow down your computer?
Lime wire won't do anything harmful to your computer, unless you dl a fake version of lime wire. It is the software, program, w/e you download from lime wire can mess up your computer because they might contain viruses. So, I suggest you scan the file that u downloaded from lime wire first before opening it.
Q: I recently Hooked a newer Pioneer cd player up in my 00 mustang gt!.. it will not keep memory. The only way it will come on is when the red(power) is hooked up with the Yellow wire!.. but this way it will not hold a memory.. theres a few orange wires but i have hooked them up and it still wont keep memory? any suggestions?
Chech okorder ... The red wire goes to the ignition 12 volt source, and the yellow to the battery 12 volt source. The yellow wire must remain hot with the key out to retain memory. There may be a bad fuse for the battery wire. It is usually fused through another circuit such as the cigarette lighter, clock, or horn.
Q: What wires plug in under the center console of a 2000 firebird, there is a 5 wire plug that I can't figure out where it plugs into
You may want to go to one of the many forums for F-body cars for help(links below). Can you include a link to a picture? I'll try and find a wiring diagram.
Q: I am replacing an old outlet with a GFCI and I have encountered a red wire...what is the red wire for?
It sounds like that receptacle was half switched. Receptacles are designed to have the small brass tab on the black side snap off and one half is constantly alive (black wire)and the other side is connected to a wall switch (red wire). Is this in a room with no ceiling light? Switched outlets are usually for a lamp to turn on as you enter the room. GFCI outlets are not designed to be switched on and off as both sides will go off. Is this room in a basement, kitchen, bathroom or near water pipes? You may not be required to have it GFCI protected. If you can and want a GFCI then try another outlet near by.
Q: How can I investigate the resistance of wire and how it changes with the length of the wireCheers
If you don't have a multimeter, you can probably see the effect of resistance with a flashlight bulb and a small battery (AA or AAA, etc). Get a spool of wire, needs to be coated/insulated wire. Connect the bulb to the battery with the shortest wire possible. See how bright the bulb is. Then, connect again using the entire spool of wire (hopefully you can get at both ends of the wire while it is still on the spool). The bulb will be dimmer because the voltage at the bulb will be reduced by the resistance of the wire (resistivity per unit length X the length of wire). If the length of wire on the spool is too long, the bulb will not light up at all.
Q: Ok. so i wired my cd deck into my 92 buick, but everytime i start the car i have to manually turn on the cd deck. i also have to change the settings everytime! and once i turn off the car the setting will not save and the setting will be lost. Now everytime i turn my car on i have to manually put the settings again! this did not happen in my old car! and i think it might be the wiring! Because the last cd deck i had did save the settings! and would turn thge cd player on everytime i turned on my car!! and it would play the track back, right where i left off. please help! i did attach the yellow cable wire the red cable to the battery current.? is there a problem!
sparky is right. The yellow wire keeps the memory, and should have constant power even when the ignition is off. The red wire should have power only when the ignition is on. If the radio is left on when you turn the car off, it will come back on when you start the car, but only if the radio keeps constant power on the yellow wire. For your car: The constant power wire should be orange (connect to radio's yellow wire) The switched power wire should be yellow (connect to radio's red wire)
Q: My house is currently wired using Cat-5 lines. If I were to replace the Cat-5 wiring with Cat-6 wiring, would I see an increase in my DSL speed?
If you have a proper install of Cat-5 lines, then you probably won't see any improvement by upgrading the lines. Of course, if you question the quality of the old install - maybe frayed cables, maybe the ends are stripped too far back - mayby the lines run right against your AC power lines... Then a proper install of Cat6 (or anything comparable) will help improve speed inside your house. Things to keep in mind: - like another poster said; most DSL service doesn't even come close to the 100MB rating of Cat5. Cat5e and Cat6 are -theoretically- faster, but you can't make the bits move any faster than what your ISP gives you. - If you had an older install of Cat5, the installer might only be using 2 pairs of the 4 pairs of copper wire. Newer stuff, Cat5e and Cat6 require using all 8 conductors ( 4 pairs). If your old wiring was splitting off telephone service using the 'spares' - then you will need extra wiring to do this right. the comment about Cat# = # of twists per inch is not correct, either. the standard says something like.. Cat3 has about 3-4 twists per foot, Cat5 has about 3-4 twists per inch. Cat5e adds more twists, and requires all conductors. Cat6 more twists, and still all conductors. Cat7 proposal will have more twists, and braided shielding.
Q: i have a 92 saturn and bought the wire harness, i put all the wires together and all that turned on was the theft light that comes on when you take off the face after that i tried putting the red and yellow wires together and it worked, just without the key having to be in the ignition and i think that is why the stereo gets so hot so can youall tell me how to wire it correctly?
if leith was paying attention he would of realized you already have the wire that goes straight to the battery. YOU need a wire to hook up to the red one that comes on with the ignition. if the wire thats supposed to work for this dont for some reason you can 1. hook it into the fuse box with something that comes on with the key or 2.you can simply hook the yellow wire and a 4 foot peice of 12 g wire to the one that gives it power then with your extra wire run itout on the dash for a toggle switch and run that back to the red wire and remember to turn it off or you will have a dead battery in the morning :)
Q: I'm trying to install a ceiling fan and I'm looking for some help given my home's wiring. I have a single light switch in the room, and here's what's coming out of the ceiling: 2 white wires, 2 black wires and a ground wire. It seems like a set of white and black originate from the same location (in both cases). My celing fan with light has a remote connection, so there's one black, one white and one ground wire coming from my fan to connect to the ceiling. Can someone let me know how to hook it up so the fan and light both work? Thanks in advance.
In most cases in would be all blacks and all white and grounds together...........but some electricions will take heat back to the switch on the white leg............if they switched wires you can tell by opening the switch box and look at the colors..........try a light bulb first..........to see what switches it. Nothing to it..........just look........you'll get it.......also you will find if it's been changed......normally a white wire will have a black piece of tape around it...........that's telling you that white leg is now black and going to be hot . nite
