There would be no problem putting a in-line toggle switch on your REM wire. Just look at the color of the small wire going into your amp, then find that wire under the dash. Cut the wire and strip both ends. Connect one side of the toggle to one wire and the other side to the toggle to the other wire . Q: home, thermostat, wiring: green wire is 24 volts from the t-stat to the indoor fan relay, i promise! unless it's a trane. trane has their own wiring codes and i don't remember trane wiring at this time. i can look it up but don't want to. green goes to the indoor fan relay, for real. the fan relay energizes 110 volts and turns the indoor fan on. be careful jacking around with that stuff. remember, you have low voltage from the transformer and t-stat and high voltage everywhere else. the outside stuff is 220 volts. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Will it make a noticable difference if I upgrade the wiring to 0 gauge?: No. Even if the wire is undersized there would have had to have been a LOT of voltage drop in the 2 awg compared to the 1/0 awg wire, AND the amp would have to be loosely regulated for there to be any significant improvement. If both of those things are true it's still not likely there'd be enough of a change to be audible.
