Q: I have a mostly brick house, more red, fenced in back yard and am wanting to do a border of Perennial plants around my home. Wondering if this is a good idea, I don't know much about planting, gardening or anything of that sort. We have brick steps centered in the front and I want to go at an angle and leave gaps on either side of the steps to be able to plant some flowers or something. I would love some thoughts and opinions on all of this, seeing as I have no clue. I want to make sure all plants I use are safe for children and animals, I have 4 children, 3 of which are under the age of 5. Thank you for your time and help!Oh, any websites that you use personally or know would be helpful to me feel free to supply them =) I have had the hardest time finding anything helpful. Thanks!
Hello. Perennial garden are a great way to make your home look great with little work. Depending where you live ( I live in zone 5) Most perennials here grow through out the summer and then just get cut back in the fall when they are done. There are many poisonous perennials. The easiest way to find a list of these is to just type in poisonous perennials into your computer search engine and you will get many lists of them. Just print that out and bring it to your garden center and they will walk you through the choices of non poisonous perennials. I work at a garden center and its very common for non gardeners to come in and ask for help. So don't be intimidated. The most important thing to do is to watch and see what kind of light these spots get that you want to plant in. lots of shade, full sun, morning sun-afternoon shade, or vice versa. Thats going to be the first question asked. Then decide what colors you like and how tall you want the perennials to be, Some get 4 feet tall, some stay at ground level. Your local garden shop employee will be able to help you with no problem. So good luck and congratulations on deciding to beautify your home. Gardening is a lot of fun!!
Q: from where can i get free photos for home and garden?
I use google images. Just type in what you would like to see under images and you will get loads of pictures. Example , cottage garden, traditional landscape, any keywords will link to images.
Q: There are a lot of little projects that I would like to do in my home. It was my mother-in-law's home so I would be able to know the history going back 30 years. How should I prioritize the following projects (especially if we plan on living in the home between 5-10 years)?-9 Replacement Windows (currently very drafty single-pane, wood frames) -A friend mentioned that the home's insulation may be shot (not sure) would this be a better investment than windows?-Bathroom (sq. footage unknown but not very large, I would say 8ftx6ft space includes sink/tub/toilet small built-in cabinet)-Kitchen (again, sq. footage unknown but cabinets are 30+ years old and there are only 3 lower cabinets, 2 small drawers and very little counter space)-Landscaping
Who are these people? How many homes have they refurbished? Look. If you don't have it sealed from the weather you'll lose it all. Start with the roof. If there is rot up there, replace it before replacing the roofing. Make sure someone knows what they are doing with flashing: You don't want leaks or set the place up to burn it down at the flues. Then, you need to make sure your drainage is good. Start with establishing a minimum slope of 1/foot for the first ten feet out from the house, all around. Be sure the gutters and downspouts are in good repair and the water is taken away from the building.. It is essential that you have 4 perforated drain pipe and 7/8 washed gravel below footing height all around. And if you hand dig, do not dig deeper than chest height without adequate shoring so you don't kill yourself. Now, assure the rest of the house is out of the weather... windows, doors, felt or other sheeting product, trim and siding. You are now ready for the interior in this order: plumbing, electrical. insulation, sheet rock, tape, texture, paint, trim, doors, cabinets, finish plumbing, finish electrical, and finish hardware...landscaping. Do any of this out of order and you are setting yourself up for rip-outs.
Q: Hey looking for a home maintenance/reno tool kit for around 100 bucks or less, any good websites which have deals? Thanks!
To round out your set of tools get a 10 Vise-Grip curved jaw pliers (#10CR), an 18 pipe wrench, a hammer, a hacksaw, a multimeter, a tape measure, and wire stripping/crimping pliers.
Q: I'm making mystical magical garden I'm looking for life like dragon statues does anyone know where I can find some?
try the garden center and ask if they have a sourse for these
Q: I am NOT!!! I rewire things, just have the knack.....but I loathe doing these things myself!!! Paint to me is for Painters, and Gardens are for Gardeners...how about you???????
I must say I'm very handy around the house. I can and have done just about everything that can be done. From Electrical wiring, Plumbing, Sheetrock hanging, Finishing, painting. I bought an old farm house that need rewiring, plumbing, roof, kitchen cabinets, Rearranged the bathroom. Tile flooring in the kitchen, Added on over 1100 sq feet with a 12X16 back porch. A 12X16 storage shed and a 24X30 two car garage that is also my wood shop. Plus I work 12 hours a day and usually 6 days a week sometimes seven!
Q: If you had to pick would it be home or garden?
The garden but with no weeds
Q: I just started a very strict diet due to a medical condition and it says that I can't eat store bought tomatoes but I can eat home grown, so is that the same as organic?
Actually organic does allow both fertilizers and pesticides they just have to be from non synthetic sources-i.e. made from non manufactured sources. No a home grown tomato is not necessarily the same as an organic tomato. There is lots of chemical use in home gardens. Things like Miracle Gro, Sevin Dust, roundup and other poisons are routinely used in home gardens and are not organic in any way shape or form. An organic tomato would be grown organically in a garden that has not had synthetics applied in many years. The crops are rotated around the garden plot. Cover crops and compost is applied to the soil so that the soil grows and is healthy. Areas around the garden are set up to attract beneficial insects and other critters to control the pest population. No synthetic pesticides can be used but insecticides such as soap sprays, garlic sprays etc are used to control pests.
Q: The partner was an older man, and Tony was about the best looking man on TV at the time. The show wasn't super famous, but it was something like quot;Fix it upquot;?? And they don't show it any more. It was about 1996-1999?? And I want to know Tony's full name to look up photos. Can anybody help?
Title: okorder / this is the only Tony I found and he's kinda cute! from his photos
Q: When using Treflan TR 10 as a pre-emergent weed control in a vegetable garden, does the pre -emergent function not also stop your vegetable seeds from germinating?
I've never personally used this pre-emergent before so I can't really say.. It is however, used on vegatable crops. Perhaps you need to read the label very carefully on how to apply this and what its method of operation is…
