Q: What are some signs when a wheel bearing and/or ball joints are in need of replacement? For example, does the steering wheel shake a lot? What sort of noises do you hear? What happens if you don't repair/replace these parts over a long period of time?
The bad wheel bearing is a shaky steering wheel while driving or hard pulling to one side when braking. Bad ball joints can be heard while turning or going around corners.
Q: i want to grease my bearings but i have no idea how to take them out... and i do want to break them or ruin them...how do i do it???
Is if for a sk8teboard wheel? if so use your trucks and put the wheel on one end of the truck and wedge/pull it out. It should pop out pretty easy. to put it back in you put the bearing in place and use the one end of the truck again and just push it in.
Q: I would like to ask about the difference between needle roller bearings NK and nki,Recently, I encountered a problem, originally wanted to buy NK 40/20 needle roller bearings. But it is later discovered that the label is NKI bearing 35/20 (inner) model, measure and NK 40/20 nominal size, only found nki35/20 needle roller bearings NK 40/20 bearing needle length is shorter a section, the other to look exactly the same.Considering the bearing equipment used in high precision, and the bearing capacity is large, so request, the use of NKI35/20 (inner) bearing replacement prototype No. NK 40/20, it has a bad effect on the accuracy of the equipment, whether this model can be used to replace. Therefore, I always have this doubt, hoping to get answers from professionals,.Thank you for putting it down hereWhat I want to ask is, if you take the NKI 35/20 inner ring off, can you take the place of NK40/20 bearing? If the NKI 35/20 bearing is installed, what impact will it have on the equipment?
NK and NKI are light series needle roller bearings. The difference is that one with inner ring and one without inner ring. The following problems are shown. Relevant technical data of the model are compared. Q: I went to Les Schwab and got my car checked out after I heard a clicky noise. I told them to check the bearings. They did and said they needed replacing and were in bad shape. They called me and gave me a quote for $500. Is that too much for replacing the wheel bearings, hub and an alignment?
$300-350
Q: I work with publix supermarkets. my manager is being a stickler all of a sudden about not stashing floats in the freezer eben u go on break because it ruins the bearings .. I dont know if thats the actual name of the carts that we use.. They are for our stock and have a center wheel set for pivoting. Can anyone confirm if it is bad? if not, where is a source I can shove in my bosses face
Yep - bad news for the bearings. The wheel bearings in those things are unsealed ball bearings and are susceptible to getting water inside. Freezing makes the water crystallize and when it melts the dispersed water is changed to droplets that rust the balls and races. Bicycle wheels have the same problem. The carts belong to the store and the manager is responsible for seeing they are treated properly. As an employee your job is to treat them the way the manager says. If he says pour acid on them, pour acid on them.
Q: Is it important to replace the rear wheel bearings both at the same time (both left and right)? Or is that only done because of convenience (to save the trouble of replacing the other one in the near future)?
Just the faulty side. Any of the others will clearly tell you when they want to be replaced. The other could go next week or 25k from now. If the fronts did not go first, then are you sure it needs replacing? It should have a tell-tale whrrrrring sound when the wheel is spun off the ground. But the acid test is it gets louder when you swerve (carefully). Louder on a right swerve means left bearing history. Louder on left swerve means right bearing history. 45mph in light traffic Except for odd-ball occurrences, the very first thing a bad bearing should tell you is your car may no longer be worth fixing. That's because all of the other fixes needed at high miles, and soon coming, cost far more than the value of additional miles. Depending on the make (like Subaru) and the use (like gravel truck) there are exceptions to that way of thinking.
Q: My car has recently started making extremely loud noises.. squeeking, squiling, grinding, and its all coming from the back of my car. This noise now continues while I drive, but at first it was just while I would press the brakes. Im trying to determine if this is my brakes going bad, or if it is my wheel bearing going bad. Anything would help thank you!
If you jack the car up you can listen closely to the wheel bearings, and also try to rock the wheel by grabbing it at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position, there should be barely any play. If you can wiggle more than a 1/2-1 mm then its likely the rear bearings have failed. If the bearings appear OK then remove the tire and try to remover the drum If the vehicle has disc brakes the pads will be exposed, if the discs are scored. grooved and damaged you will notice this immediately The disc should be almost polished smooth, with the disc brake pads held against the discs by the calipers, there should be at least 1/4 inch (6mm) of pad material. If you have drum brakes once you have removed the drum (remove cotter pin from cage and remove nut) inspect the shoes and brake hardware found inside, attached to the backing plate.
Q: i shanged all the bearings and it ran fine for 20 minutes then started spitting and shaking and making pfft noises when i hit the gas.like this vrooom pfft vroom pfft pfft vroom offt pfft pfft pfft bang pfft pfft vroom. if that makes sence lolso im thinking its the timing or the engine is not good any more.DO YOU THINK ITS THE TIMING?and can you refresh my memory on tdoing timing?make sure the number 1 cyl is up and the distributor is in the number 1 possition. then make sure its just barely over top dead center and thats about it right?
First mistake: nickel-and-diming engine repairs. You broke the crankcase seal to replace your bearings, now you are chasing a golf ball on a one-hole par 1 course. Your timing marks for crank and cam gear should meet vertically straight depending on the make/model. The rotating assembly is a precision-balanced instrument with extremely close tolerances, if any part is thrown off balance you have compromised its integrity. Second mistake: you didn't state year make or model of car. Not all are created equal.
Q: so how often should i? and what cream do u use? im planning on getting the lube at my local skate shop... do u think they wood have it or is it not a skate lube?i herd u can put them in gasoline overnight, does that work?im open to any and all suggestions
if there not broke don't do anything to them lol
Q: I have a 1996 saturn sc1 and the rod bearings are gone in the motor. I'm i better off taking the chance and replacing them or buying another motor, because i was told that if the rod bearing are gone, 9 chances out of 10 the cylinder walls are gone as well. Is this a true fact?
Being that the rod bearings are gone, probably would be best to change the main bearings also while you're in the bottom end of the engine. Usually when the rods and mains go, you start to loose oil press. and begin to have other problems such as the rings. Do a compression check on cylinders to determine if you have a problem with the rings/pistons.
