Q: I have just gotten into skateboard and getting quite good now I plan to get better bearings.
BONES OR ABEC-1
Q: What are some signs when a wheel bearing and/or ball joints are in need of replacement? For example, does the steering wheel shake a lot? What sort of noises do you hear? What happens if you don't repair/replace these parts over a long period of time?
Bad Wheel Bearings will make a grinding noise that can very with when you steer. Bad wheel bearings also will cause play in the wheel from 6 to 12 o'clock.
Q: Im getting ready to buy a alien workshop board and i want to make this skateboard last! Can you guys help me out?
dood, check it, the BEST wheels of all time are dualite featherlights. the entire pack weighs litterally nothing. theyre hollow on the inside and r stabalized by a polyurthane skeleton to keep it from colapsing. ive skated 4 sets and every 1 of them were AMAZING!!!!!!!! the best bearings ive ever sk8ed have been the shory's black panthers. ive sk8ed the abec 5s and the abec 7s. the 7s r phanominal. ive never had 2 oil any set ive had and they stay buttery throughout their lifetime. if u use tht combo, ull b beastin it 24/7!
Q: I will clean them every once in a while, but if i go boarding on a day where the road is wet, is it essential to dry the bearings when I am done?I have bones swiss bearings.
Yes. You should dry off your bearings after a riding in the rain. You were better off buying 4 or 5 sets of Magic or MileHighSkate bearings for the same price. You can use certain types of lube to make your bearings pretty waterproof, mainly greases. Try using White Lithium Grease, Ballistol, Tri-Flow, Phil's Waterproof Grease, or 3 in 1 Lube. Do not use WD-40
Q: i just found my skateboard after about 5 years and two of the wheels are rusted and wont move. im working on replacing the wheels and bearings, but the two rusted wheels still wont come off i was able to get the bolt off of one and it now spins, but thats about it. its been soaking in coke all week and i bought wd-40 today and used that.
buy new one if rusted - you don't ride it - so buy new one let it rust to
Q: I have a 38 sector nine bambo fiji longboard. I was thinking about getting bones reds, or bones super reds. What bearing should i get? An answer is greatly appreciated!
Depends on what you are doing? If it is just pushing, cruising, freeriding, the bones reds should be fine. If you are thinking more downhill or anything with more speed, which probably isn't the best on that board, you might want to invest in something like the bones swiss.
Q: Looking to upgrade my bike wheel bearings to ceramic but wonder whether they really do improve performance.
Ceramic bearings are, without a doubt, far more efficient than their metallic counterparts and offer significant performance advantages (the Quick-Step team always used them even though they were sponsored by Shimano and I think many pro-teams still defy their sponsors and use ceramics). The caveat to this is that pro teams can afford to replace bearings once a week- us mere mortals have far more important things to spend our money on (which I guess is the gist of your question!). Without knowing exactly how you intend to ride or exactly what your budget is it is very hard to answer the question- however unless you have a real performance machine under you (Sram |Red/Campag record kit etc) the chances are you will get greater performance gains, and far greater longevity from upgrading existing components- especially as the sealed units most manufacturers use are actually pretty good already. My personal experience is that most bikes can be improved very quickly and most effectively with a tyre upgrade and most riders can be improved most effectively by losing a few pounds! Both cost very little and both are very easy to do!
Q: At speeds above 60km/h (37ish miles/h) my car starts to vibrate and it sounds like my tires are squealing, but when i am turning right vibration disappears and also the sound of the squealing, however when turning left it gets worst then going straight. This happened after i hit a curve and i got both steering and wheel alignment check. Also i installed another set of rims and the symptoms are same.
Right side bearing is strong possibility. Your right turns unload the right side wheels and the noise decreases. Your left turns load the right side wheels and noise increases. By the way your observation is the standard old school test for bearings that was done by swerving L. and R. at about 45 mph. That, and having Leroy ride in the back seat with the window down to help decide if it is front or back. If it is a bearing problem, just do the bad wheel or wheels and don't get talked into any additional bearings. The good ones could easily go another 150k. Sorry you wasted a bunch of bucks. Alignment folks usually don't touch cars with bad bearings or tires. Don't know what went on there.
Q: can i get a summarized version?
NO! We don't know what bearings you are talking about. There are many rotating parts in a car. Don't you think they would all have bearings? Wheel bearings, axle bearings, cam bearings, crank bearings, water pump bearings, alternator bearings, power steering pump bearings.......What ones would you like to know about?
Q: On my longboard the bearings are sliding out of the wheels as i ride and causing the nuts to tighten and me to fall off. Why is this happening and how can i fix it?
That happens don't worry about it! Just put all the bearings back into the wheel.
