- Q:My uncle was given a (real) polar bear rug by a little old lady, and it's vintage. We'd like to sell it, but we have no idea where to start. It's incredibly creepy to have this poor dead thing hanging out in your garage. Is it legal to sell it in the US? It does have some damage, it's missing part of a paw, and the nose is a bit sad looking. Otherwise, it's still soft and life-like.
- Try OKorder.
- Q:Which is the simpliest way to clean and remove spots from dirty carpet, without using commercial shapoo?
- It really depends upon what the stains are. Different products and methods work for different stains. Here are some excellent and practical sites that will help you with a whole variety of stains. Best of luck with it.
- Q:ok my parents are saying that they want to have wood floor in both of the living room also in the hall ways and they also want rugs in the bedroomwhat do u think
- Yes! Hardwood floors increase a home's value because they outlast carpet and linoleum, and tend to look more sophisticated (unless they're installing those 2 1/2 inch wide oak planks that you see in more outdated homes. I hope they don't go smaller than 3 wide because wider planks are more in style now). By the way, the 5-6 planks look more country or Victorian and can look amazing in the right house. With hardwood floors you have the option bare wood or carpets/rugs on it, but with carpet you have only the option of carpet. With hardwood floors, you can change the look of a room simply by changing the rugs (it's like how throw pillows can change the look of a couch). I have Brazilian Cherry hardwood floors in dining, kitchen, breakfast nook, hall, laundry, and foyer and everyone loves them except our dog. Our dog can't get any traction and slips and slides so we had to put down a lot of rugs just for her. I think they're just as easy/hard to clean as tile or carpet, by the way. Hope this helped!
- Q:There is this rug I love but I just looked at the materials and it said 100% latex backing. I am allergic to latex. Can I use this rug? Or every time I step on it will it bother me?
- Not sure if it will bother you but you need to consider that latex backed rugs can discolor the flooring underneath of them. It might be better to choose a non-latex backed rug.
- Q:i have just rented a house and started to clean the rugs now smell a strong urine oder, can anyone tell me how to get rid of this fast.i tried boarax, backingsoda, vinager , peroxide, and nothing seems to help. i will give 30 points to someone if they help me remove this smell.
- toss them, but let the owner know first. if it's in the rugs, it's probably in the carpet padding, too. request that they are replaced.
- Q:We received a carpet bid for a room that is $2641.00. The next number is 52.44 installed and carpet only 39.44. I'm assuming this is yards? Does that sound like an average price for a slightly above average carpet? For about 200 square feet, is $7/sq. ft an average cost for tile and $1700 total including materials? Then still I have to pay labor separate. It is a unique tile in a unique shape, not square but rectangular.
- The carpet , I need more info on since most of those numbers don t make sense with out knowing the s/f of the room to be carpeted. The 39.44 and the 52.44 sound like a square yard price and to give you a price like that is against the law. All carpet must be given in a s/f price format.. I used to have carpet that installed at 52.44 a s/y but it was excellent carpeting.. So I don t know about the carpet until I get more info, but its sounding high.. The tile could be 7$ a s/f if its unique like you say.. The installed price with the materials is a bit high but not totally out of line at all. Your installation area could explain that.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q:I keep pads under my Oriental rugs. I bought rubber backed pads for all of them but I noticed that it's disintegrating - turning into a fine powder. Has anyone had any experience with better pads and can recommend something better?Thank you.
- Pads are must for rugs whether its an oriental rug or some other rug. It increase the life of rug.
- Q:would it have dried out?my dad paid for it, and it was fairly pricey compared to the other rugs we normally get, so if it's ruined he's going to go off.. gt;.lt;also, i was wondering if you could rug a wet horse?like if the rug was dry, and the horse was wet from the rain, could you throw the rug on her?or would you have to dry her off first? thanks!
- Most modern rugs are synthetic so don't get moldy easily but they can take a long time to dry and if they aren't hung up outside can get that smell your clothes get if you leave them in the washing machine over night. Depending how cold/damp your tack shed is and how thick the rug is it could still be wet. I'm lucky that I can rent a heater to dry my rug in a day (and I need it because I only have one turnout) If you must rug a wet horse use a wicking rug (cooler) or a string rug under a sheet or fleece. You will have to change the rug in 15-30 mins and if the horse was very wet or if they had sweated up again you may have to replace it with another cooler. You mustn't ever rug a wet horse and just leave them. If the horse is unclipped on a mild day or (partly-)clipped of a warm day you could turn them out unrugged while still a bit damp (but they should have been properly cooled down and no longer be sweating.) EDIT: wow zakiit thatching (putting straw under the rug) is really old-school - I thought string anti-sweat rugs were old fashion. As my niece and nephew would say your so dead - it means old-fashion apparently. I told them I wasn't old fashion I'm retro - you can be retro too :-)
- Q:The carpet in my store is about 5 years old. It has some places that have what looks to be a bubbles. Is there any glue that I could inject thou the carpet and put a weight on the place to hold it down?
- Hi, former floor covering business owner here-yes you can purchase carpet glue and a syringe from Home Depot, Lowes, possibly Menards. If you are unable to find it there ask a local carpet store if they would sell you some. Tell them it is in a commercial area and is a safety hazard. They generally do not want to do the carpet repair for you and consider the job too small, and if they did they would charge a large labor fee. It could be that the surface (debris left on floor)the glue was originally placed on was not prepared properly or the environmental conditions(too cold, too hot) were not favorable. Also, perhaps the glue or carpet was defective. We were surprised to receive so many defective products and carpet and constantly found that we would have to consult our area representative to rectify customer complaints. Hope this helps............
- Q:hey ok so my room is getting redecorated like i am getting the walls painted new furniture and currently i have white carpet and actually its not so white anymore because of spilling stuff all over it and yeah i need some really really good tips on how to clean it so it at least looks white again! thanks so much in advanceee
- you could rent a rug doctor and clean the carpets. They usually rent for about $25-$30 and then you just buy the soap to go in it. My parents always add a little ammonia to the water too so it helps bring out the stains.
