- Q: I recently got a new dishwasher. My hubby and I are in the middle of installing, and are to the point of hooking it back up to the electricity. The cord that we have has 2 black wires, one is smooth the other ribbed, then on the dishwasher, we have a black, white, and green(ground). Which wires do I hook up to which?(cord) black smooth black ribbed (dishwasher)blackwhitegreen(ground)
- if its an american appliance there should be a black and white wire if the appliance is european then the ribbed black is the white wire and the smooth black is the black again I dont know what brand of appliance your working with and so on... It should also tell you in the instructions for the dishwasher... and if you dont have the instructions you should be able to get them for free from the appliance website...
- Q: ive heard multiple people talk about a 'final wire'. what is it exactly? Is it the thickest wire possible? Or is it when you havent gotten your wire changed in a while?
- The final wire is, as its name implies, the very last wire that will be used before your braces comes off. It is usually either a square or rectangular wire and braided. The wire is used to do the final tweaking on your teeth and to close any minor gaps you may still have. And YES, it is the thickest wire you will wear.
- Q: I'm trying to fix a light fixture for a friend. Her father-in-law gummed it up. At the fixture, there are 3 white wires soldered to a single wire. There are 3 black individual wires and one red wire. There are three switches that control the light. If I hook one of the black and the 3 white to the light, the light stays on constantly. If I hook either of the two other black individually, nothing comes on period.I'm pretty much at a loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
- USA Sounds to me that what you have is 1 two conductor (black/white) cable as a power feed, 1 two conductor tap taking power somewhere else, and 1 three conductor (black, white, red) taking power to and back from a switch. All the whites get joined together, with a pigtail to the light. Make sure you have a tester. Find the black wire that is always energized, and mark it. Find the black and red that are in the same cable; mark them. I think what you have is they ran power to the light instead of the switch, then took the power down to the switch on the black conductor, and back from the switch to the light on the red conductor. Take the black that is always hot, and splice it to the other two blacks. Do not take it to the light. Hook the red to the light. If this does not work, reverse the red and black that go to the switch. This will take power to the switch on the red, and back from the switch on the black.
- Q: what if I use a 100 amps.main braker to wire my range and dryer
- NO each appliance has to be wired to the panel on its own breaker Dryers is normally # 10 wire and on a 30 amp 2 pole breaker. Three wire receptacles can still be used if they are existing in older homes and the appliance has to be wired for that 3 wire receptacle.Newer dryers have 4 wires and have a separate ground unlike the older dryers that used the neutral wire and ground together. A range can be # 4 wire or in some case # 6 wire depending on the KW rating of the range and have to have a 40 or 50 amp breaker on them as well. You should not put them together of course. Call an electrician and have ot done properly and it could save you form a heartache or worse.
- Q: I am replacing old 3 button (vertically aligned) light switch. There is 1 thick wire wrapped in white, 1 thick wire wrapped in black and 4 thin wires wrapped in black. I attached the white wire to the common wire screw and put the remaining wires around the screws. I am also replacing a toggle switch that will control the vanity lights above the sink. There are 4 clumps of wire coming through the box. The copper grounds are all twisted together, and there are multiple strands of white covered wire twisted together and then the 5 black cover wires and 1 white covered wires. After hooking it all up, it doesn't do anything. No lights, fan or heat lamp. What did I do wrong?
- Light Switch Common Wire
- Q: Kind of a confusing question I guess. I want to cut a wire that contains 3 other wires and splice into them then reconnect them. is all I need relatively the same gauge wire or is it potentially different type like some sort of special speaker wire..? Should be one positive one negative and the other some sort of signal for sound. (Microphone to a speaker). All I need is standard copper wire?
- i wont even begin to touch on this, leave it alone and call a pro
- Q: Which internet is faster and quality?
- Wired Internet, but i recommend wireless to laptops.
- Q: I know there must be a difference, and reason why some wires have a solid strand behind the rubber, or some have several strands. can someone explain to me how it works and the differences in wire. m trying to get my head into electricity. resources would be good too.
- Stranded or solid are the same in so far as performance. The stranded is used where flexibility is needed. solid wire is prone to breaking when repeatedly flexed. Solid wire is a bit cheaper, and easier to work with where you need the wire to stay in a particular shape. .
- Q: True or False?Branch wiring from a 200A - 3 phase 4 wire panelboard.WIRE #PHASES 1 --- PHASE A 2 --- PHASE B 3 --- PHASE C 4 --- NEUTRAL - WHITE WIRE 5 --- PHASE A 6 --- PHASE B 7 --- PHASE C 8 --- NEUTRAL 9 --- GROUNDTOTAL OF 9 WIRES GOING TO SIX (6) 20A 120V CIRCUITS
- That's true. 9 wires may go to 6 circuits. Each circuit has one phase so 1,2,3,5,6,7 are the six phases going to six circuits. For two pair of three phases (pair one 1,2,3)(pair two 5,6,7) there are two neutral wires and one common earth wire. that is total nine wires. there is nothing wrong in it.
