Q: in hooking up a hot wire from the battery to a toggle switch inside a vehicle, i ran a seperate ground wire to the body, there are 2 wires coming from the unit i need to hook to the toggle switch.how do i test to see which one of those is a hot wire? i am not too smart at this. ty kindly
a test lamp, connect clamp to your known good ground then touch the pencil type end to the hot. if it lights then thats your positive. do it opposite to test for a good ground .
Q: I know that there are wired routers, and wireless routers. Do wired routers do the same thing as wireless routers, without wireless capabilities?
You are correct. Generally these days your typical router will have one input port (to the Internet) and four output ports, one or more of which can be connected to other computers -- while also having wireless capability. Wiring directly to the router is useful for desktops, servers, and other hardware that may not have wireless capability, while also eliminating any interference that could be associated with wireless routing, such as radio interference or downtime.
Q: I keep trying to strip this damned wire but the copper wire inside the tubeing constantly ends up getting split apart instead of staying together. Im pretty sure Im doing it right Ive done it before easily. The wire is very old though could that be the problem?
I never use a wire stripper, just side cutters. Grip the insulation firmly with the flat face of the cutters away from you and pull. It might help to gently crimp all around the insulation first.
Q: Hi,I'm looking to change the outlets and the switch and light fixture in a bedroom of a home built in 1948. The outlets are original to the home I think. Will I have to fish ground wire throught to the panel box for my new receptacles? Or just install new 2 slot outlets? Why the different looking wires? Is the older wire copper with a silver colored coating to indicate being neutral or is this an old aluminum wire? The hot wire is red plastic coated and looks modern to me.
it is normal for a house built in the late 40's --- it was thought, at that time, that the aluminum wiring was cost effective and the most up to date === it would be wise to pull new wire and that would be 12 gauge with a ground [[ two wires, a black
Q: I am trying to hook up my motorcycle turn signals but am having trouble with the wiring. Off of each signal stem comes a red wire (positve) and black wire (negative). Then coming form my bike I have a purple wire, blue wire, and green wire. I was messing around with the connections and was able to get all my signals to light up, but not in the fashion i need, like blinking correctly. Any suggestions? Do I need to split the wires? Does one wire go to the left signal and one to the right?
There are many model specific forums out there that would probably be a better place to ask this question. If this is a common model of motorcycle I would try looking for one. To hazard a guess, the green wire should be split and connected to the black wires. The purple and blue would then be the positive. Trial and error would tell you left and right. If you have a multimeter it would eliminate the guesswork.
Q: Both wires are black. One has what looks like white paint on it.
correct.....both can be hot, as they may have been cris crossed from point to point. the best is to get a volt meter and test to your water pipe if its grounded and not eroded away over the years. problem with using an inductance tester is it may give an erroneous reading if they have been cris crossed. note.....once you find the hot of the two, the other bing the neitral will have a current on it that can be fatal, remember there is no ground to protect you, and if your in water or touching something metallic, you may be the ground path needed to complete the circuit. be careful!
Q: I have a 1983glastron cvx-16 and need to wire the lights, tach horn fuel guage there are 2 wires coming off the fuel guage one pink from the center and the other looks to be comming off of a bracket not conacted to the tanks fuel guage
Hi mate, generally for your guages you will need a + and a - for the lights in them to work and the guage (im guessing is electronic) will have one left for the sender wire to hook up to. at the other end the + is to be connected to your sender and a - to the nearest ground or metalic or run back to your - on your batt. most of them will work in the same way and volts is the easiest. sorry no schematics but generally if you wire it backwards it will work backwards. ive never hurt 1. hope this helps
Q: i have a 300x1 @ 4ohm and 600x1 @ 2ohms, i wanna hook it up at 2 ohms what gauge wiring kit should i get?
I am pushing about 1000 watts through my wires...I use the lowest gauge (biggest wire) i could find, which was 2 gauge. Before, i used 8 gauge power/ground wire and 14 gauge speaker wire. I re-wired my truck with 2 gauge power/ground wire and 8 gauge speaker wire.... MUCH more punch and substantially louder playing levels. I lost lots of power through my previous wiring. Lots of ppl argue with the wire size, but i say go lowest gauge possible. I mean, its makes sense.....the bigger the wire, the easier the electrons can flow through.
Q: Hey can some1 help me, on my lamp i have a White, a Yellow wire with tints of green in it and a black wire. on my cord that i am going to plug in is a Blue, brown and a yellow wire
Run a continunity check on the cord from the brown and blue wires to the blades on the plug. The brown should go to the wider blade, but could be other way around. Then the yellow wires go together. The one (brown or blue) from the wider blade goes to the black one from the lamp. The other one goes to the white wire.
