Q:HI would like you guys opinion. Would an oval rug look good under a rectangular dining room table. Thanks in Advance.: A rectangular rug would look better under an oval table but you can do the oval rug under the rectangular table, as long as the rug is quite larger than the table... Otherwise, if the rug is too small and the table goes basically to the ends of the rug, the rug will look too small.

Q:We purchased the recommended pad for use on carpeted areas. The problem is that the wrinkles are pronounced/high. This diminishes the attractiveness and safety of the new rug.The rug was tightly rolled for shipping. It was laid across a bed for 4-5 days allowing the edges to hang hoping to straighten and smooth out these wrinkles. Now that we have actually placed it on the carpeted area it is disappointing that the wrinkles remain. I've contacted the vendor and they have no advise or help thus far. If they are from food, some oxygen type cleaners can lighten them, If they are from bleeding of the dyes in the rug colors (which can happen with some inexpensive wool oriental type carpets), there is not much you can do. If it is pet stains, a good professional cleaning company can often remove them. I have owned a lot of oriental carpets and I highly recommend finding a professional cleaner who specializes in cleaning them. It usually costs about $100 to have an 8 x 11 carpet cleaned, but they can make them look (and smell) like new. I don t think you should try to clean the rug with any water based cleaners or shampooing. Some one I know had a rug very much like yours and when they tried to damp shampoo it all of the red color bled into the white areas and ruined it.

Q:I acquired a huge area rug from someone who was giving it away, they said I just have to steam clean it. Well the thing smells beyond belief and we've already used a whole bottle of Bissel cleaner solution. Do you think t will come clean if I take it outside tomorrow and spray it off with a hose and some vinegar and let the sun do the rest? I do not want to have to go to the store and buy anymore solution, it's obviously not working so far.Thanks!: That's how my wife cleans ours- we have a 5 by 9 rug in our living room. Our new puppy still has a problem, and that's his favorite place to make a mess! We take our outside and drag it up over the kids swing set. If it's really bad we lay it on the grass first and she scrub brush with some white vinegar to hit the spots, then hose the daylights out of it. We'll leave it outside for a day or two, airing it out helps. You might want to try some sort of different cleaner too- if you know anyone that works in a school, hospital or nursing home. They have some enzyme type cleaners to treat carpet with, if you have a janitor's supply close you can see what they recommend. The grocery store stuff didn't do much for us either! Good Luck!

Q:last night i left the top of the cage open for my hamster. he climbed out and chewed loads of holes in the carpet. is there a cheap way to patch or replace the carpet: Wow that sounds just like what my puppy did,but of course they were way bigger.I really hate to contradict everyone else who answered but they were only half right. Cutting patches from inconspicuous areas is the right thing to do but using glue isn't. If it were they would install carpeting in houses using glue.You wont see that happening ever unless it was outside carpeting for a patio.Reason is it wouldn't be on there very long with traffic due to people walking on it, and use from the vacuum cleaner. The glue would not hold. That is why they sew carpet when they have to use two separate pieces to finish a room. Or to patch it. If you will be happy with the temporary fix and don't mind doing it over in about two weeks then go for it. If not you will need to sew your little patches. I sewed mine as I could not afford new carpet but couldn't stand to see it with holes in it. Either way, I hope it works out for you.
