- If your walls are white / creame / a neutral color get the Herringbone Rug as you need something to accent the color. If you have a wall that is purple, pink, blue, green, red etc. and you have a lot of stuff in your room get the Zigag Rug, it wont make the room too busy, but it will compliment it as well as give it length/width (whichever way you place it). Once you have a carpet cleaner in hand I would recommend starting with plain hot tap water and rinsing the carpet first. The spray on cleaner has left plenty of residue that needs to be removed before you try to add more cleaning solutions or stain removers. Other than that, follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to use the machine. If you don't want to make that investment, if you can roll the carpet up and take it outside, you can wash and scrub it in the driveway with a garden hose and carpet cleaning solution. Once you're done, you'll need to hang the carpet out of the sun to dry for a few days.

Look for carpets that have a lot of fibers per inch and that have a good warranty, at least 15 years (wear, stain, fade). Feel the samples. Some fibers are much softer than others even when made from the same material because of differences in manufacturing and even dye.
