Q: The problem with putting a rug on carpet is that the natural nap in the rug and the nap in the carpet work against each other. Makes bumps like you wouldn't believe (even if no one walks on it). Furniture on top of the rug makes it worse.Does anyone else have this problem and if so have you been able to fix it, or at least minimize the bumps on the rug?: Dawn is right.. The special rug to carpet under layment ( its not really a pad).Its thin and feels tacky but leaves no residue. These underlayments are real thin and will pick up dirt naturally and loose their tackiness but you can toss them in the washer and they come back to work again. Some one will tell you to get the shelf liner material, this is not the same stuff and can leave marks.

I would recommend against laying tile down over hardwood without taking it up first. A tile floor should have an underlayment of 1/2-inch hardibacker and a float (1/4-inch or so) of leveling compound before laying the tiles. This provides a good, solid surface that won't flex (tiles and grout won't crack from walking on it). Tile will run you about $5 to $6 a square foot for installation. This doesn't include the cost of the tile itself or the removal of the old floorboards, though. Good ceramic tile will run at least $4 a square foot.

Which is pretty horrible, office type carpet which is practically see-through! Prices then range up to ?30 per square metre which gets almost ridiculous when added up. I just carpeted my house, and found Carpet Right the cheapest, for carpet and fitting. To fit the carpet they charge ?4.99 per square metre. And add ?30 for stairs. I would add however that often 'Carpet Right' can be 'Carpet Wrong' so would check the carpet for gaps against the wall and cutting in around door frames before you pay the fitters.. It's unlikely to mess it up if you follow the instructions.

Q: My male cat just recovered from a urinary tract infection. The only thing that may work is to spray the rug with some Bitter Apple spray and that should stop him from chewing on it and picking it up.
