- I'm pretty sure it's 16-17 with parental permission. I suggest looking up some of the shops in your area and seeing what they say. There usually isn't a set rule for it, every shop is different. Like some shops may refuse seeing, say, a 14 year old, whereas another shop might do it with the parent's permission. Then of course, once you hit 18, you can do whatever you want, lol.

Look it up in your textbook and read the definition and apply it to my explanation above for a deeper understanding, and don't be afraid to ask your instructor questions like this! - I wouldn't suggest changing it for at least 6 weeks. You have to allow the skin to heal before touching, turning or changing the bar. If you do change it beforehand, you risk damaging the skin and cartilage surrounding the piercing. I know that I didn't change mine for about 8 weeks, and I haven't ever had a problem with it.
