- Q:Ok, I just moved in to my own apartment this past Spring, and it's an older duplex (with a lot of friggin windows-31 to be specific). So trying to keep the heat in this winter is a huge issue. I've heard of covering the windows with plastic to help, but I'm also looking at thermal shades (window quilts, etc.). My question would be which of these would keep more heat in? Or should I do both? (I would make my own if doing the quilts...so if anybody has any links to a really easy way to make them that would be very much appreciated as well! ) Money is tight, so I'm trying to avoid the problem to begin with..
- the plastic window coverings work great and are inexpensive. they keep the wind from blowing into your home too. shades and quilts would not stop the wind from blowing in.
- Q:I am talking about the stuff you tape to the inside of your home windows and use a hair dryer to stretch it tight. It is supposed to keep single pane windows better at keeping in the heat. I live where it gets 30 degrees at night and 40-50 during the day in winter. Does anyone have experience with these products? Which type works best? Mainly, does it really keep heat in? OR does it keep sunlight heat out and balance out to zero help?
- It worked great for me. Let the sun in and kept the draft out.
- Q:I figure that the little windows are plastic, not paper, and shouldn't be included with the paper products in the bins at the recycling centers. Am I right or wrong? It takes a lot of extra time to sort through all the junk mail in order to discard these envelopes.
- Yes your right to do that! I reuse my envelopes, just open them carefully then stick a label over the window and VOILA a new envelope! I'm not tight, I'm eco friendly!
- Q:some jerk took a razor to my passanger window to steal nothing out of my jeep... and now i have a large rip in the window. how would i go about fixing this. and obviously tape will work but i'm hoping there is a better solution. now if i buy replacement windows will the colors match my older somewhat weathered top (black)... i wouldn't mind buying new windows but i dont want my jeep to look weird. thanks
- you get windows tinted by the amount of light they allow to pass through. they range from 5%-70% (5% being nearly pitch black). if you can find the tint number on the other windows you may be able to match it if you went to a dealership.
- Q:Does that thin plastic window covering people use during the winter really help any?
- Yes, i cover all my windows. You can hardly see it if you run a blow dryer over it and shrink it.
- Q:recently the plastic window in the back of my 91 mazda miata convertable top tore and iv been looking for where i can buy just the plastic window but i cant find it i can only find buying a brand new top all together but i know the top is made to be able to replace only the plastic so if you know where i can find these please help
- There are several types of tops used, and there is no way to guarantee of what replacement window will fit unless you know for sure who made it! Some times the makers name is on the top, however to find out you have to take the top a part. Next thing you need to know is that the labor is just as much for a window replacement as it is for a new top. Another thing to think about is that many times a complete top is less then 100 dollars more then just the replacement window. That is why I just replace the complete top my self, and use what I would have paid someone else to do the job to buy new cables and a rain rail. The first link is to directions on how one person did the job, I have read three different methods. However because of how the top was put on by the last person to do the job none of the worked exactly as published. The second link is to a site that has replacement windows, there are others out there. Note the one there is for the Robins Top, if it is factory or any other makers top, it will not fit. Replacement tops start at about 150 dollars and go on up. I have bought mine from Dave on OKorder. He used to carry a three window model and that was what I bought. I like his service and price. - Q:Is there a way you can tint flexible plastic windows in a convertible car?
- The best bet is to remove the existing plastic window and replace with material that is factory tinted.
- Q:Some dark spots where my stove cover leans on it during cooking (no heat problem) I just don't want to scratch the window.
- If heat has burned the plastic, no cleaner will help it. If not, try Plexus. It is what motorcycle riders used to clean their visors and windshields. Lots of car detailers use it to clean plastic windows on convertibles and Jeeps. Find it at any motorcycle dealer. Use with a clean microfiber cloth.
- Q:I bought a halloween plastic poster of a black cat for a window and it ended up melting to the window, I took as much as I could off but there's quite a it left and the ink also left behind..put rubbing alcohol on it and tried scraping..not the best solution there. Thanks for any easier solutions you may have!
- Best way it to use window scraper (used to remove paint from window) try using a hair dryer to warm the plastic first this will help it come off cleanly and make it easier
- Q:Is plastic on my windows just as good a drapes for the winter?
- yes if you surface mount it get a 5 dead air space between winder plastic winder is perfectly acceptable in Texas
