Q: The back window on my convertible got a hole put in it last winter, since then I've just been using tape to keep it together. I have a new plastic window complete with trim that will make a suitable replacement, I just need to know what kind of adhesive and how to apply it so that it stays put when the top is up and folds accordingly when the top goes down. I'd like to remove the old back window as well.
Either have it sewn in or get rid of the car. It will look like crap if you attempt to glue it in place.
Q: Do they use glass or plastic for windows on aeroplanes?
It varies widely. Most airliners have acrylic windows and consist of multiple (usually three) layers. Acrylic is used for its strength - it's not likely to break, and it can withstand both high and low temperatures. The opaque acrylic is sometimes referred to as plexiglass. Areas requiring more strength, particularly cockpits which are in danger of hail, bird strikes and other dangers are usually multiple layers of acrylic and glass, with heating elements inbetween to keep the glass clear and prevent the formation of ice from obscuring the view. They are also sprayed with chemicals which helps the rain disperse on them and prevent the formation of fog and condensation.
Q: Does that thin plastic window covering people use during the winter really help any?
Yes! I leave it on many windows all year 'round. It makes your home quieter also. I also put caulk on the edge of the window frame next to the wall/sheetrock to block out more heat-loss. When you install the plastic, don't initially put the plastic on too tight. Use the hair-dryer to smooth out the wrinkles on the plastic. If your windows get a lot of sun, the heat from the sun will also smooth out the plastic. Before you install the plastic, clean the windows well and use clear caulk at the edge of the window glass and the window frame. Caulking the window first, makes your plastic covering work even better.
Q: I have a 97 Wrangler soft top - plastic windows. What is the best way or product to use? I can barely see out my windows!
soap and water is the best thing to use a very light detergent soap. do not use any kind of windex or something smiler as it will turn y our plastic brown. you can go and get some plastic cleaner and use but soap and water is just as good and allot cheaper.
Q: I need to put plastic on my windows for the winter. It never looks right, and they always pop off during stormy cold winter weather. Any advice?
You will have better luck with the plastic on the inside of the home, between the window and a blind. The purpose of the plastic is to create an air pocket. Shrink wrap will not do that.
Q: for wranglar soft top windows
Might try Gripflex. It's sold by Sign Suppliers. It comes in many colors and light with show thru it, but it's too opaque to see thru. If you need to see thru the plastic look elsewhere.
Q: what do i do to make the plastic thats supposed to keep the chill out on the windows stay on. it keeps falling down? i followed the directions. now what?
All depends what you used to attach it and what the surface u are attaching it to is made of. First make sure the trim isn't bowed then use either a builders adhesive ( if necessary tape it to window with masking tape until it goes off ) or a thick gel-type superglue and stick this to the frame where it should overlap.by a few millimetres, The trim is not what keeps the draughts out as the gap around the frame sholud be filled with foam or silicone. The trim merely hides the gap and provides a neat finish
Q: Will covering the windows with thick painters plastic drastically help the window A/C unit cool the house down? Also, should i insulate the floor?
Make sure the windows are closed (sometimes they slip from the top - be sure to check that). Using solar film will help but it is rough to work with, replace the screens with solar screening as it is easier and does help quite a bit. Insulating the floor will do very little, extra insulation in the attic is the way to go. Be sure to replace the AC filter as that could be clogged with dust. On very sunny days close the blinds or shades to help prevent heat build-up.
Q: rail that holds window fell, i took apart and see thta two lil plastic white bushings was broken. but cant seem to find it online or at parts store... there really aint many junk yards around here. do i really have to buy a whole door kit to get this fixed????
you can order the parts separate from a dealer, that's the best place to get those at,they don't cost but a few bucks, and are well worth it,good luck.
Q: This is a tough one, I know. But it is true cause I have read about this several times. My question is how is it done? is it the bark, resin, the wood the needles? I would really like to know how a tree can produce clear plastic paper.
probably just cellulose. Like photography film, it's just highly processed plant-cell fibres. I'm also uh, told, uh, that one can find clear smokeable rolling papers made of cellulose as well.
