Q: In that chart it has 2 sections, one is maximum amps for chassis wiring and the other is maximum amps for power transmission. What is considered chassis wiring and what is considered power transmission?
Chassis wiring assumes each wire is routed separately, and power wiring assumes they are wired in a bundle. In chassis wiring the cooling of the conductors is better, because they are all exposed directly to air. In a bundle, some of the wires are not in direct contact withe the air.
Q: My dog chewed the wiring and i dont know how to re-connect
Lets see, if your dog chewed the wires, he probably did it right at the valves. Here's what you do (depending on how many valves you have) 1. Each valve solenoid has 2 wires coming out of it. Grab one (of the 2- it doesn't matter which) wire from each valve and twist them together. Call this the COMMON wire (usually white). 2. Go to the clock/timer/controller and look to see where the wires are connected. Check to see which color wire is deginated as the COMMON wire (or doesn't have a station number designation) 3. Once you find out which wie is the common, go back to the valves and twist this wire onto your BUNDLE with a wire nut. 4. Connect the remaining wires at each valve to any corresponding wire (on the other end). Make sure that you eventually solidify these connections with waterproof wire connectors. 5. Check the stations at the clock, running individual stations and making sure the correct run-times correspond to the valve assignments- adjust or flip wires at the clock instead of switching wires at the valves.
Q: Do wired controls work better than wireless? My hubby uses wireless and I wonder if wired would transmit quicker?
Wired is better. While there is no lag, the battery wearing out in the middle of a game is kind of annoying. If you move too far away from the console, the wireless will not perform.
Q: 1. what is drive-by-wire?2. what is drive-by-brake?
HI Drive by wire In a drive by wire set up there no solid connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels. the steering is all done be electronics. on a regular car there is a shaft that goes from the steering wheel to the steering gear box, then tho the steering arms to the wheels. ON by wire the steering wheel moves switches and valves the turn the wheel by a pre set amount. Drive by brake this is done by using two brake pedals one for the left side and one for the right side.. when you step on the left brake it slows or stops the left side so the car well turn in that direction. that's how airplanes steer when on the ground they have a left and right brake hope this helps Tim
Q: im installing lights in my car and it says i need a 12v wire. can i use somthing more then a 12v wire? im hooking it right from my battery. what other wires can i use?
Depends what lights they are, spot lights perhaps?,anyway, tell your local parts shop what you`re wiring up and the will supply you with the correct cable. Or you could go down the scrappy and rip out some of the thickest cable and use that.
Q: i bought a programmable thermostat, and the wiring i see doesn't make any sense. it's for central air, heating and cooling. there are no tags or labels on the wires, and it was probably installed in the seventies.there are four wires coming out of the wall, and they're screwed into four of six slots:Y = blue wireG = red wireW = green wireR = white wireB = emptyO = emptythe new thermostat has the following slots: G, Rc, Rh, Y/O, W/B, Y1. how should the old labels correspond to the new ones?
two wires go to the cooling and two to the heat . Rc is for red wire cooling , Rh is for red heating , i would think the white goes to the W/B ,i would guess the blue wire goes to Y . but you can call the 800 number for tech help
Q: can anyone please tell me what does hook-up wire mean and how does it differ from other kinds of wires such as light duty and heavy duty? Also, which one should I use for breadboards?
Hookup wire is a term usually reserved for wire sizes smaller than 16 AWG, usually single strand conductor. It is generally used in applications where current-carrying capacity is not of prime importance. Breadboarding is one of these applications, but usually uses 22AWG or smaller wire.
Q: A 41.7-kg sign is suspended by two wires, as the drawing shows. Wire 1 makes and angle of 42.2deg with the horizontal and wire 2 makes an angle of 58.8deg. Find the tension in wire 1 and wire 2.
To solve this, you have to find 2 equations, because there are 2 unknowns. Assume, Tension in wire 1 = T1 Vertical component of T1 = T1 sin42.2 Horizontal component of T1 = T1 cos42.2 Tension in wire 2 = T2 Vertical component of T2 = T2 sin58.8 Horizontal component of T2 = T2 cos58.8 Since the sign board is in equilibrium, the forces must balance each other. Horizontally, the horizontal components of both forces are balancing each other. Therefore, T2 cos58.8 = T1 cos42.2 T2 = (T1 cos42.2) / (cos58.8) -------------------(1) For the vertical components of the wire, both are balancing the weight of the sign. T1 sin42.2 + T2 sin58.8 = (41.7)(9.8) T1 sin42.2 + T2 sin58.8 = 408.66N ----------------(2) Combine (1) into (2), T1 sin42.2 + (T1 cos42.2)(sin58.8) / (cos58.8) = 408.66 T1 ( sin 42.2 + cos 42.2 tan 58.8) = 408.66 T1 = 215.66N Subst T1 = 215.66N into (1), T2 = (T1 cos42.2) / (cos58.8) = 308.4N Hope it is correct ^^
Q: i am installing a headunit, i connected all the wires the match, but i have some left over that i am confused about. from the wires that plug into the radio there is the antenna wire, the remote wire, and the ground with a washer to screw it down, and from the other is set of wires is a solid orange wire, which i have no idea where it goes to. so i connected the remote to the orange wire and didn't hook up the antenna to anything, and bolted down the ground wire. I'm wondering why i have 2 ground wires, and what the orange wire is and what do i connect to it?
The orange wire may be an illumination wire that controls the illumination or brightness of the head unit's lights when the car's headlights are turned on. You have two grounds because one is a chassis ground used to ground the metal frame on your head unit to the car's ground. Your head unit may or may not have an input for the illumination wire, in which case you need to remove it. I would also ground the head unit's frame using the second ground wire. Try looking online for the pinouts for your particular car's factory head unit. This will take the guesswork out of the install.
Q: Hi, I've got two new appliances (range hood fan/light and bathroom exhaust fan). Both are installed but not wired. My house is older, build in 1940s and the previous appliances were wired using the existing copper wiring which runs through the house. I'd like to electrically install these new appliances but am concerned about connecting the new appliance wiring (aluminum wiring i think?) to the copper wiring in the house. Is it safe to pigtail these two wires together? Or is there a better, more safe method? Thanks
You might find a holy war of electricians on this topic but to simplify. It is not safe to connect copper to aluminum wiring when the aluminum is SOLID core. Many new fixtures come with a silver colored wiring that is STRANDED and these are connected to copper wires as general practice without any problems.
