- Q: I had a stucco like substance on my bathroom ceiling that was peeling and falling off. I scraped it all off and found a layer of pink paint beneath the stucco that also was peeling in many spots. Underneat the paint is plaster that has some spots. I have an exhaust ceiling fan in the bathroom but don't think it works terribly well. I am considering scraping the remaining paint off then filling in uneven spots and corners with spackling compound then painting over the whole thing again but I am concerned that the spackle will not adhere well in the spotted areas. Does anyone have any recommendations?

- Q: I kinda left the sink on while i was taking a shower.. so when i got out my bathroom floor had water everywhere (about an inch of water)i mopped up the mess with towels but i forgot to wipe inside the cabinets (and that what caused the water to soak through according to my mom) now i'm being screamed at every. single. day.on the first floor if you look up, the ceiling pretty much dried up but theres 2 creases popping out. kind of like a loong 3-d v shape since the water soaked through and outlined the cabinets shape.and since my mom loves burdening me soo much, now my parents say that they lost 5 grand in our house's value T____Ti don't know if we're supposed to repair it, paint over it (though u can't rlly paint over it), or w/e.. does anyone know what i should do? don't tell me to call a repair man because my parents want to see their 'options' before they call themThanks.. :)

- Q: Today, i found my cat sleeping on insulation from the ceiling in our garage. We think this may be why he has been losing his fur on his tummy, armpits, and knees, the skin is pink. - Q: I am redoing my basement and am wondeirng what is the best way to insulate the basement ceiling, mainly to cut down on noise. My house is fairly old and the hardwood floors we have upstairs creak very loudly when you walk on them, and can be heard through the basement. Would fiberglass insulation work to cut down on footstep noise? If i put two layers in the ceiling would that be better? Or if I carpet upstairs would that muffle the sound?
- USA I agree with travelingsupervisor. Get rid of the squeaks. But, if you are not going to fix the problem: Fiberglass and cellulose insulation do not really reduce noise. Mineral wool is helpful, but it must fill the cavity, with a 1/2 or 3/4 inch air space on both sides. Mass stops sound. After installing the mineral wool, install one layer of cement board and a layer of gypsum board over that. Stagger the joints. Or, fix the problem. Insulation by itself will not help.

- It will stick just fine. I have painted wood paneling this way too...by taping all the seams just like you would dry wall, and filling the grooves as well. Once it is sanded and painted it looks just like drywall.

- On new houses, they insulate the ceilings with fiberglass batts, and use regular drywall on the ceilings. When I remodeled our bath, I used green board everywhere and I tiled the ceiling of the shower. A lot of work, but worth it.

- Why are you insulating the ceiling of a basement,? Unless there is no heat in the basement it is not efficient to insulate the ceiling from a heating stand point. But it's your ceiling. Size 15x 93 batts R factor 19
