- You do not want to do this for two reasons. One is that it will take away all the protection from the tile that allows the tile itself to be water proof and stain proof. Take away the glaze and the tile will stain. The second reason is that the glaze provides most of the tile body strength. A couple of things to help prevent tiles from being slick.. Remove all wet shoes and keep the floor dry. Hard with kids I know. Anti slip area rugs helps. And lastly there are products that you can use in the mop water that helps the tiles from being slick. - Q: The bottom row of tiles on my roof are loose.Depending on the weather(wind) I have to move the tiles back every 3 weeks as they are slipping down.How do I fix this without ripping up all the tiles just to nail down this one row?I do not have a gutter.
- If they are the newer cement tiles, I would try a small cement drill, about the size of a 16 penny nail. Try to gently drill a hole in the tile where you want to nail it to the roof. Or use screws that don't rust. Don't nail or screw down to the tile, that will break it. You just want the nail to hold the tile in position. If they are the older mission tiles, made of clay, the same might work. But they are very brittle and may need a wood support shaped the same as the tile to put under before drilling.................JJJ

- The tack strip or grippers as you cal them can be laid over the tile just as you do on a cement or slab flooring with one exception. The use or a cement tack strip and some have to be pre drilled and a longer nail or screw used to attach them to a wood sub floor if your tile is over wood subflooring and a backer board over the sub floor . - Q: Thinking of putting tile on front porch. It has a couple minor cracks. Is there anything that I can put down so that the Tiledoesn‘t crack in the future.
- Cover the whole porch over w/ cement as to cover cracks keep porch even then lay tile. Best bet wold be to remove all old cement w/ cracks and start over. It seems everything wants to crack. We just laid a textured patio and it already has 2 huge cracks. We live in washington state and I think it is from small earthquakes. Good luck.

- Everything is possible. But depending on the type of tile I would not recommend painting it, especially if it has a glazed finish to it. The only thing that might work would be an epoxy coating they use on garage floors. I know if it was my house I wouldn't want to rip it out and re due the tile, but at the same time I do not think you would be happy with the paint after a few months and it is flaking off or wearing thin in the traffic areas, (that is assuming it will stay on that long). - Q: I am installing 4.5 x 4.5 porcelain tiles on a drywall kitchen backsplash. Applying Omnigrip mastic using a 1/4 x 3/16 vnotch trowel. The tiles have a waffle grid pattern on the back which is about 1/16 deep. I tested the application of one tile and noticed that the mastic did not fill all the waffle depressions. Are they supposed to be all filled? DO I have to backbutter the tiles? Am I using the correct trowel size? Please help!P.S. What is the purpose of the waffle pattern in the first place?

- It most likely needs to be dry wiped with a few rolls of paper towels or cheese cloth. Try to dry wipe it then mop it. If it still seems hazy then you may need a product like Lithofin PowerClean. I can't imagine the dry wipe technique not working unless you didn't grout it properly.
- Q: well I burned a small hole in a linoleum tile. How do I fix it?
- You can remove a single tile with the aid of heat. There is a tool called a heat gun that looks like a hand-held hair dryer that will serve this purpose. You can purchase or rent them. You may try a hair dryer first. The heat softens the tile and adhesive. I would also carefully cut several slits in the tile and use a putty knife/scraper to remove it in pieces. Once removed, scrape the remaining adhesive away and then dry fit the replacement tile to check for fit , level and smoothness. Then apply tile adhesive and weigh it down for 24 hrs. You may also attempt to patch the hole if you have a matching replacement tile [or can cut a section from under a cabinet or appliance. 1) cut a shape around the hole that will best match the pattern in the tile; cut a patch from the replacement linoleum. 2) fill the area with a matching epoxy. You might try to grind some small shavings from a replacement tile and mix with a bit of clear epoxy to fill the hole. Sand smooth after the epoxy dries. Obtain a glossy topcoat with a bit of clear nail polish.
