Q: I am looking for an obsolete 8X8 ceramic tile I believe was made by Interceramic. It‘s described on my original sales slip from 1999 as IC WestPalm Surf It‘s solid white in color and has a slight pebble texture. I need to modify my kitchen some and don‘t want to tear up the entire floor to install new type tile. Any ideas how to find this tile if there‘s any left out there.: I agree with Fred on this one! But I do want to offer some help, try adding a border to the existing tile by chipping some of the edge pieces out and adding a complimentary tile in the same size but a nice color maybe set at a diagonal. Q: i have tiles in my bathroom witch are painted(not me was like that wen i moved in) was wondering if i cud wallpaper or tile over them: Buy some stuff from the paint store called ESP this when painted on, allows you to paint over the top.And lasts too.

Q: Ok so our bathroom is old and crappy and the faucet in the shower always come off. I was taking a shower and when i went to put back the body wash it fell and must have landed on the faucet and the faucet came off and two tiles along with it. The tiles are broken into little pieces. My mom is gonna be mad but it wasn‘t even my fault im so scared =(: This must be wall tiles. Just tell mom what happen and then mom will know how it happen and get it fixed, They may have to remove few more tiles to fix this if same tiles are not available. It is time to fix the faucet too. Just do not let her find out on her own that it is broken. She may lecture you a little but that is the part of growing up(fault or no fault), but if you do not let her know then you will have more water damage and she will be more mad at you becase it will cost lots more to fix.

Q: I am renovating, and have always loved white coloured tiles but am now starting to like these light coloured hardwood Tasmanian Oak Floorboards ....I have no idea on prices yet, what would cost more? and which one would look more beautiful??PS- i would NEVER put floating floorboards - they are cheap and nasty!: Hardwoods are classic. You can never go wrong with hardwood floors as far as resell value. I renovated two years ago. We have a 1500 sq/ft home. We did tile in the bath and hardwoods everywhere else. My husband wanted to tile the kitchen as well but we were talked out of it due to labor costs. Cleaning tile grout is troublesome, sealing it is ineffective if you have food stains or mud or something. My tile floors are very pretty but I regret it. Be sure to get real hardwood with NO laminate at all. Some hardwood floors are real wood on the surface but laminated onto a synthetic bottom. Be careful that way. Things to ask before choosing: How many times can they be refinished? Are they glued or nailed? (Glued are crappy, nailing is much more effective.) How do I clean them? (I use a steamer, no chemicals.) Will my subfloor support the hardwood? (we had to install a new subfloor). Oak and Hickory are the best HARD woods to choose from.

Q: Ok so my 17 year old SIL decided to clean the grout in our entry way using STRAIGHT bleach last night. I came home to find the ceramic tile COVERED in bleach!! Now, after mopping several times I still haven‘t been able to get all the bleach up AND our tiles are stripped!!! Any tips on getting the bleach up and then resealing? Total novice here and desperate for any kind of help!! Thanks!!: Well congradulations on your very clean floor, never fear the clorine bleach will buff off when it is completely dried considering your existing tile is not porus. if that doesn't take care of it, then try this, use a brush and wash it down very good with water and then use a solution of vinegar and water (half and half) this is called an acid wash in the tile work trade. If that does not solve your problem, then get your SIL back over to remove the existing grout and install new or just ask her to pay for it to be done by a professional (which ever suits ya). Be advised to clean your new grout thoughly twice after it has hazed over, then after 72 hours apply an acid wash mentioed above, let it dry, and install a grout sealer.

Q: i am looking for the best way to lay 600 x 600mm polished porcelain tiles on a caber chipboard floor can anyone help?: Chipboard is not a suitable underlay for tile. Check the bag of mortar for acceptable substrates, at the very minimum you will need a tile backer. If there is any deflection in the chipboard I would recommend putting plywood down before using tile backer. Remember that tile backers don't add much strength as far as flexing is concerned, they are used so the underlayment has a similar expansion and contraction rate as the tile itself. Wood will not give you this and cracks will develop over time.

Q: I wanted to put ceramic tile over the linoleum (in good shape) in our bathroom (floor is concrete). Can I do this or do I need to remove all the linoleum? Thanks: Remove the linoleum. The adherence of your tile is only as good as the material it is bonded to. Linoleum (or more correctly, vinyl) is a poor base to lay tiles over. Remove the vinyl, scrape the concrete of any vinyl adhesive, and mop the floor with TSP. (Tri-sodium phosphate, found at most hardware stores) This will remove most substances from the concrete and create a better surface for your tile. Let the floor dry overnight before setting the tiles.

Q: please be descriptive.........: Any tile can chip and or crack if an object is dropped on it . But this depends mostly on the quality of the tile and what the tile body and glazing is made of. Some true porcelains are very hard and if they do chip the color goes all the way through the tile body so the chip is barely noticeable. Some older red bodied tile can chip the same way but is very noticeable because the red body shows through. Most average tiles made today are of the white bodied or a porcelain body. Must harder and chip resistant than the old red bodied tiles. To help judge a tiles hardness they are rated in a scale of 1/10. Called a MOHS scale. Any object such as a pc or silverware or a can edge when dropped can top chip a tile. A poor installation or under supported tile the whole tile can crack.
