Q:The kitchen I want to order is a light cream/beige color. The tiles in my kitchen which would also be the backsplash are white. Does light cream and white work together? The counter top would be a grainy white and cream color. I wanted another countertop but it is not available. Should I paint the tiles? And if so how? Thanks
It sounds to me like it will go well together. If you're going to paint the tiles, I think it will have to be spraypaint, for them to still have a nice smooth finish. And I think even then, it won't be long before the paint starts to peel off. Tiles just don't take paint or even primer very well.
Q:Right now the wall is horrible paneling, I am drywalling the house, but I really want one wall tiled with granite tiles. Would it be better to do this on the paneling or drywall? Will it be too heavy and rip the wall down? Is there a safe way to do this?
Yes you can. However, to simply apply tile to the wall as it is now will not work. You will need to install a cement backer board in place of the drywall. This backer backer board will need to be screwed into the wall studs with 2 1/2 - 3 screws. The seams will need to be taped as similar to drywall. There are many other options available to you other than tile to achieve the look you are wanting. For instance, a plaster compound can be applied to the wall and made to look like a block or stone wall. Stucco or Faux finishes may be a cheaper and easier alternative.
Q:The house to decorate the floor in the choice of headache, wooden floor generous and beautiful, but will rot, will be deformed, have to resist termites; and tiles no problem, but now many people use wooden floor, personal really do not know how to choose The Is there any friend who can give professional advice?
First look at the economy, money when he wood flooring, but no money to buy cheap wooden floor, might as well buy tiles Second, people see, tiles, you can use a mop, wood floor, to kneel rub, wax and so on. Lazy is free Followed by the knowledge of the bedroom installed wood flooring, the other is tiles
Q:I need pink ceramic 4x4 tiles to repair an old bathroom. At least 80 of them. Where might I find them?
1 st try and determine whos tile it is, this will help cut down the looking time and possibly stop your looking all together .. If you have 1 spare tile look on the back to see if there there is any lettering on the back , this I ll help you with if you need help. Measure the tile , if its 4 3/8 ths you don t need to look at Florida tile, if its 4 1/4 start with American Olean and Interceramic if the tile is 15/20 years or older.. Anything else start by going to tile distributors and tile shops taking a tile or a pc with you. Realizing that you may not get a perfect tile match because of dye lots and shading even after a couple months this can be a problem.. Any questions e mail me through my avatar and I ll be glad to help and you can check my qualifications there .. GL
Q:Bathroom Tiling Job?
use underlayment for tile or vinyl flooring specially use for that surface to eliminate rough areas. Also it makes flooring even with adjoining rooms, The ply you are referring to the sub floor. The toilet flange gasket can make up the difference in height depending on buying number 1, 2, or 3. I would only use 1/4 underlayment.
Q:ive never tiled anything before. i was thinking of replacing our old tiles around the fireplace and puttnig in slate ones. i am wondering if its a bigger project than it seems. will i have to remove the mantle to do it. is it harder to tile something on the wall or fireplace than the floor? should i just seek a professional or is it easy?thanks
I don't know about horrible but certainly impractical; unless the fireplace is merely decorative; or an electric one. TILE is usually fired at approx. 2000 degrees; essentially creating glass. It's highly unlikely you'd ever have a fireplace fire get that hot...Hopefully. The issue is more that constant stress on the tile in heating and cooling; and the effect on any mortar you choose. Beyond that is the issue of the tile being hidden most often; and the need to clean it often to be able to view it when no fire is present. Fireplaces are crafted using Brick, that allows no such effects from temp variations, and offers some level of insulation against the heat produced within the confines of the fireplace. Certainly you might consider tiling a hearth; or creating a hearth that you can tile; but it seems a bit defeating to tile into a fireplace. Tile; especially floor type; are created through different heat ranges and substances; to be graded in durability. Assume something like A being the least durable, and D being the most durable. That equates to normal traffic and wear. I'll assume someone will tell you; Sure; there are heat resistant tiles and mortars but I'll go back to my notion of the aesthetics and ask why bother? Q:I was quoted $5.75 for tile install and $2.25 for concrete board per square foot.
You would have to get quotes from several tile layers. Once you have their quotes, it would be up to you to select the tile layer that either offered you the most economical rate, the one you feel comfortable with. You might consider a handyman. In this scenario you would purchase the tile and your handyman would lay the tile. You handyman would be a lot cheaper than a contractor. Whom ever you decide to select, your best option is to get a referral from a friend, relative or co-worker. This person has performed some work for your friend,s relatives or co-workers and was pleased. I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck. FIGHT ON
Q:we ‘tiled‘ one wall and it was our original plan to do just that one.but now,a lot of tile has been not used (of what we bought) and the shopkeeper wouldn‘t take it back.what should we do?we can‘t do an entire another wall because we don‘t have that much tile but,it‘s still a lot.pleease help :)
Give them to the local school for art and craft. Keep some for spares though.
Q:I am installing commercial tile and I have no idea what tool is used to cut this kind of tile, it easily breaks if its bent too hard. I need to cut curved areas on this tile and I have no idea what too to use. Please help! ;)
If you are talking about vinyl tile you can use an hair drier to soften the tile so you can cut it without it crumbling. Use a curved tin snip or a utility knife to cut after softening. You should be able to lay it flat on the floor, soften it, scribe it with the utility knife, and then snap it. If you are talking about ceramic tile you should use a tile saw. You can rent one for about $60/day. You can buy one in Home Depot or Lowe's for about $90.
Q:How to identify the quality of ceramic tile and standard
Ceramic tile quality identification and standards are as follows: (1) glazed: carefully watch the glazed, glazed should be smooth, delicate; (2) color: a few pieces of ceramic tile together, in the light under a careful look, a good product color is very small. The color between the products are basically the same: the poor product color difference, the color shades of different; (3) porcelain degree: the color of the tiles, color clear and natural, that porcelain high degree of color is not clear, the porcelain degree is low; 4) color: color patterns to be delicate, realistic, no obvious lack of color, broken, dislocation and other defects;
