- Q: What is the best tiles?
- Champion, Dongpeng Tiles, Nobel Tiles, Mona Lisa Tiles, Marco Polo Tiles and other top ten brands Not the best, only the most appropriate, different parts of the selection, the characteristics of different tiles, there is no need to be the best, neither economic nor nicely suitable for paving parts
- Q: How can you cover ugly wall tiles??
- you can get proper tile paint or if your really handy you can get some transfers to stick on
- Q: My bathroom size is 7 ‘*11 ‘. If I want to use 20*20 tiles, will it look good? I want to use bigger tiles because I don‘t like grouts. Can we put anything to make the tile not so slippy?
- Is the tile going to be put on a concrete slab? If not, tile that size might crack with the movement of the floor below. If you use tile, you will need grout. Otherwise dirt and stuff will fill the area between tiles. Slippery tiles? Find a textured tile.
- Q: standard shiny, white 4x4 tiles. I want to redo the bathroom stalls, but heard from some people that it could take forever, and that i might end up messing up the the drywall? to me it sounds simple... just get a spatula or something of the sort and scrape off the tiles... is that how it goes or is it more difficult than that? has anyone out there done this? what tools would i need? what type of tile cutter do you suggest? i‘d like to replace the tiles with something bigger... maybe 10x10 tiles?
- Being that your house is pretty new most likely the tiles are on drywall and set using latex glue. However if they were set using thinset cement on drywall it will be a little harder or if the builder used the older method and set the tiles in cement on wire mesh, then it's a beast and everything must come down. Using a stiff putty knife start at the top and tap the putty knife behind the tiles and gently pry away from the wall. You will have some damage to the drywall, apply drywall compound, let dry sand down and paint with primer. NOTE: Be sure to wear eye protection and gloves, broken tile is very sharp. Also protect your tub by installing a piece of plywood on top of it to prevent falling tiles from damaging it. It's also not a bad ideal to just tear out the drywall and tile and install new backer board. Maybe a little more work money but In the long run it will make for a much better job. If you are going to use that large of tile you really should tear it out and use the cement backer board and thinset as your glue as these tiles are heavy. Rent a wet saw to cut the tiles.
- Q: When the stick on tiles have come loose you get ready to re-glue them. What exactly do you clean the cement under neath them or do you just scrape it clean?
- Acetone is a very strong solvent that will kill and loosen most adhesives. It will burn and dry out skin so use some chemical resistant gloves when using ( same with xylol or most other chemicals). If the tile are good and you just want to re-glue them, I'd suggest using some vinyl glue adhesive to glue down the tile. That will probably be your best glue to use. Just make sure to read and follow the instructions because the good glue works like a contact glue - it must dry for a while before laying the tile. I hope that this helped you out.
- Q: I wanted to remove three lines of bathroom wall tiles without distrubing other surrounding tiles. These tiles were fixed on cement around 5 months back.. now we can see cracks on these tiles (different color)..
- in the tile section at homedepot they make a hand held grout saw that you can use to remove the grout from around these tiles once you do they you can gently pry up a little bit to remove the tiles, if they were set good they shouldn't come out in one piece so put something on the floor and in the tub so as not to chip anything.
- Q: When tiling a counter top, do you need to remove the existing covering? I am assuming that I would. If so, should I apply the tile directly to the plywood? Will the plywood be wide enough?
- This is a litttle tricky to answer because I can't see what you have to work with. However, here is how I do it. Remove all of the old counter top down to where you can see down into the cabinets below. Then I use 3/4 inch thick plywood. It doesn't have to be the sanded kind because over the top of that I put a layer or the thin 1/4 inch tile backer board, sometimes called Miracle Board or Cement board. Be sure to counter sink the screw heads just below the serfice or you will have problems seating your tile. I always try to size my top at this point so I don't have to cut many tiles. Every situation is different so you have to do some figuring at this point. I always lay my tiles out dry to see how they fit first. Then you must think about the edge trim that will go around the outside edge of the counter top. I use oak but that also depends on what style you are doing but none the less something must incaplsulate the tiled area. Use the little tile spacers at the corners of the tiles to get an even fit. They are shaped like an + and are cheap. Most home centers have guides for free that have good info, take advantage of that. I wish I could send a picture of my island top. Just looking at a picture helps alot. Also, use the pre-mixed latex adhesive to put them down, much better and don't forget to seal the grout when it is dry. Good luck!
- Q: is it correct if i divide 198 by 2.25= 88 tiles? help ty
- 88 tiles is correct .. But the highest I d ever do to figure scrap is 10% and thats high. 10% of 198 is 19.8 s/f round off to 20 s/f. 20 s/f divided by 2.25 s/f is 8.88 tile or 9 tile. Most I would get 97 tile. But tile is some times sold by the whole carton so figure that into the equation. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: Cleaning tiles is a lot of work because they attract mildew, soap scum, etc. Now that the cleaning and scrubbing is done, what‘s next? What‘s an easy and environment-friendly way to maintain tiles? Also, if you have a suggestion for keeping a bathtub clean, that would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
- eww... think of all the soap scum and mold that will grow in the nooks and crannies of the tiles. you'll need to clean a lot to keep it under control.
- Q: adhesive tiles, peel stick tiles
