- Q: Please help, I'm stuck on this problem:An aluminum wire and a steel wire, each of length 4m, are hung from the ceiling. A 7 kg mass is suspended from the lower end of each wire. The aluminum wire has a diameter of 1.1 mm. What must be the diameter of the steel wire if it is to stretch the same distance as the aluminum wire, so that the two wires maintain equal lengths after masses are attached? Young's modulus for aluminum is .70 x 10^11 Pa and for steel it is 2.0 x 10^11 Pa.
- With the usual symbols E= FL/eA, so F = EeA/L Call the aluminium wire '1' and the steel wire '2'. The tensions are the same (weight of 7kg) so: E?e?A?/L? = E?e?A?/L? Since the extensions and lengths are the same e?=e? and L? = L? so these cancel: E?A? = E?A? A?/A? = E?/E? Let the diameter of the aluminum wire be d? mm. Since the cross-sectional areas are proportional to the diametera squared: d??/d?? = E?/E? d? = 1.1 x √(0.70/2.0) = 0.65mm
- Q: So earlier my passenger low beam wouldn't turn on. i went and bought a circuit tester and found out a wire located here _-_ lt;=== (the bottom right plug on the socket) that wire wont light up. i bought a socket at the same time, but i dont know how to replace it. and even if i did.. i don't see how that would fix the wire. It's possible the wire is fine. but i cleaned the socket and all that and still nothing.any advice would be great. i really need to drive at night1994 GMC jimmy
- Your rig is 17 years old. The wires at the plug shrink and crack from heat and age. Then they get water into them and corrode inside where you cannot get at it. Does not happen with all cars, but when it does, it is a royal pain. Either try for a new plug/harness or cut one out at the junk yard and splice it in. Use heat shrink over the splices.
- Q: Would crepe paper stick on chicken wire?
- Crepe paper needs an adhesive to make it stick to a surface, such as white glue. However, it gets messy once dampened, as the colors may bleed. Instead, I would consider working with paper mache or plaster gauzing strips, which would provide a strong skin over the chicken wire. Both can be primed with gesso then decorated with acrylic paints. If this is a sculptural piece you want to keep, we would also suggest varnishing it for protection.
- Q: Where can I purchase small wire of a large quantity that is similar to wire on cellular phone chargers? The wire im looking for needs to handle no mare than 12 volts.

- Q: I'm wiring a dvc 4ohm sub with 1000rms and I'm trying to wire it at 2 ohms to a mono-d amplifier. Is there a recomendation on the guage of speaker wire I should use? And Another question. When I run a wire to both positive terminals and a seperate wire to both negative terminals does that give me 8ohms or how does that work?

- Q: I am trying to hook up my motorcycle turn signals but am having trouble with the wiring. Off of each signal stem comes a red wire (positve) and black wire (negative). Then coming form my bike I have a purple wire, blue wire, and green wire. I was messing around with the connections and was able to get all my signals to light up, but not in the fashion i need, like blinking correctly. Any suggestions? Do I need to split the wires? Does one wire go to the left signal and one to the right?
- There are many model specific forums out there that would probably be a better place to ask this question. If this is a common model of motorcycle I would try looking for one. To hazard a guess, the green wire should be split and connected to the black wires. The purple and blue would then be the positive. Trial and error would tell you left and right. If you have a multimeter it would eliminate the guesswork.
- Q: 95 Grand prix factory radio is neing hooked up to an amp. Whats a diffenrent alternative besides hooking the amp remote wire to the car radio remote wire.
- Power antenna wire (will not work if your antenna goes down when a CD/Tape is played) Any Key on, Hot wire (will cause your subs to make a pop if you have your radio off when you turn your key on or if your radio has any kind of delay on start up) Buy an wire harness to plug in an aftermarket radio so you know what wire is the AUX wire on your radio. (You will use it later when you buy the aftermarket head unit)
- Q: Help me, please! I have an old air conditioning system...made in 1985, and the condenser fan went out. Long story short, I bought a new fan and I don't know how to hook it up. The old fan had 4 wires coming out of it: purple, black, green, and brown. The green is the ground and the brown and the purple went to the capacitor, black to power. Then there were two smaller black wires attached to the capacitor and they lead out to other components. My new fan has a green wire, a white wire, a black wire, a brown wire and a brown and white striped wire. My problem is this: I don't know where to attach the white wire or what to do with the two smaller black wires that were attached to the old capacitor. I was told by the gentleman who sold me the fan that I splice the white wire to purple wire - then do I hook that to the capacitor? What do I do with the two smaller black wires that lead out to other components??? (Cap them off???) I am confused and need some advice!
- did you get a new capaitor to go with the new motor if yes both black wires that were on the old capacitor go on the same set of terminals the purple wire goes on the new capacitor.. the purple wire on the old motor is the same as the white wire on the new motor...plus the brown wire with the white stripe is same wire as white wire...splice the white wire and the brown and white stripped wire to the purple wire.......the brown wire is the same as the orignal brown wire from the old motor and goes in same spot on the capacitor the other brown wire went from the old motor, should be on the other set of terminals on capacitor.....the black wire is the same as the other black wire from old motor and goes in its original place...the green is just a ground and needs to be put where the other green wire was...
- Q: I am getting these 2 CVR 12's 4 ohm dvc and i am wiring them for a 2 ohm load (parallel). When you run a wire from voice coil 1 positive to voice coil 2 positive, then to amp. and the same for negative, what is the wire that is connecting the voice coils? is it a power wire, ground wire, speaker wire? please help!
- I'm not sure I understand what you are asking, but 2 4ohm DVC's can't be wired to 2 ohm, either 4ohm or 1 ohm, but you would need a 1 ohm stable amp to do that. As for the other part of the question, can you clarify?
- Q: How do I connect a speaker wire with four wires (white, black, red, and green) to the back of speakers with only two connections (red and white)?
- Don't quite understand what you are trying to do. Speakers only require 2 wire for connection a positive and negative (usually in red and white or black). Receivers only have 2 wires per speakers a positive and a negative (usually in red and white or black). Your cable has four wires in red, white, black and green, you use only two wires per speaker in either combination of colors. This cable is designed to have 2 set of speakers, the left and right.
