Q: Which is live and which is not, there is a black wire and a blue wire?
The oven is rated at 220 volts they are both hot conductors.
Q: I wired up my brothers stereo in his 1994 volvo 850. At the time, I knew nothing about wiring harnesses so I did everything one wire at a time. I got it working but the stereo can still run with the car off. If you turn the radio off, a small led stays lit on the front. My brother couldn't get his car to start this morning. Could this little light be drawing enough power to run the battery dead over night? Should he just get a wiring harness and hook wires up like that?
If the stereo runs even with the ignition turned off, then you have wired a continuous power supply to the radio instead of an accessory, and that will drain his battery. I always recommend using a wiring harness when installing an aftermarket stereo, as there is no way you can accidentally wire something wrong.
Q: I wired an outdoor lamp-post. I tested it before wiring it to the fuse box...and if I touch the lamp-post I feel the current (a slight shock). I will be using a ground fault breaker....so I assume if I wire it to that I am going to loose the connection. Any thoughts on what is wrong?
In addition to the answer Paul gave, check the wiring that the white wire is the neutral or common wire and that it goes to the shell side of the lamp holder. A few years ago, I had a similar problem, when all of the checks were made, the panel was wired with the black wires on the neutral buss. Hence all of the devices were wired backwards. Call a qualified professional electrician to do the work.
Q: I just installed a Unity Spotlight on my 2007 Chevy Impala. There's a 6 inch wire coming out of the handle. When I stripped the wire there is a few strands of copper wire. How do I wire up the light? There isn't a distinct positive or negative.
I okorder /... check out literature for others, if this don't help.
Q: i need to know which wire is which in a 1999 dodge stratus for the cars stereo
its usually pretty easy if you look online just goodle it red is usually constant power yellow is usually switched power black is usually ground blue is usually for the rem wire the rest are speaker wires or are not used good luck
Q: I have installed a new wiring harness on my trailer, and two new LED trailer lights. The tail lights work, both turn signals work, but for some reason, I do not have a brake light on the right side. Both lights are grounded to their own post, and I do have a good ground on the coupler of the trailer. If a turn signal and brake light in a 4 wire system are using the same wire (green in this case)- how can one work, while the other is not? Any good ideas? I really appreciate the help.
assuming it was working ok before....... funky symptoms like that (where you can't imagine the circuit that would make 'em behave like that) almost always turn out to be a weak ground -- like the ground is ok for turn signals because only one side is on at a time, but when you demand enough current to light up both sides, it just ain't happening. you can rule out a ground issue between the vehicle and trailer by hooking a jumper cable between the frames. if that don't produce a change, then run an oversized wire from the fixture direct to the connector.
Q: what are the differences between wired and wireless microphones? and what are the Pros and Cons of having a wired mic, pros and cons of a wireless?Thanks......
The instant one does no longer have the mute function together as the under pressure out one does. The instant one you ought to cost whilst it dies and the cable isn't long adequate to attain your ear together as its plugged into the console.
Q: I have two white wires left...one is a speaker wire and the other is the constant 12v wire and I don't know which is which. They are the same thickness so unless one of you guys know I'm pretty much screwed here. Also, I have a black ground wire sticking out of the wiring harness and the ground wire from my stereo harness doesn't look like they should attach to each other. This is my first install and I've got everything else hooked up. Just need some pointers.
1997 Geo Tracker Car Stereo Wiring Diagram Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: White Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: White/Black Car Radio Ground Wire: Black Car Radio Illumination Wire: Red/Yellow Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Red/Green Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: N/A Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A Car Audio Front Speakers Size: N/A Car Audio Front Speakers Location: N/A Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): White Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Black/Blue Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Blue Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): White/Red Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: N/A Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: N/A Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Green/Black Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Gray Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray/Black what you need is a multi meter or something to test for current you could get a 12v light bulb hook to ground then try each white wire on a 12 light buld the end two meral contacts seperated by a small plastic area ground from tracker to one metal area positive or white to the other metal area dont let the wires touch which ever white wire cause light to go on is 12v you may have to have key turned over for power to flow
Q: u said when i buy a jvc wiring harness one end plugs in the back of cd player and the wires coming out of that connect to the wires in car will they be the same color though? right now there is a harness already on the cd player and the wires are on it and they are pretty long i thought i just wire those wires from it to the ones in car but they diff. colors
Do you have a wiring diagram for your car? In there, they have the color codes for the speakers, dash illumination ( so when you change the lighting on your dash, your radio will change too), power attena, constant power for the clock and presets. If you don't have the diagram, check online for it. If you bought your deck from crutchfield, they include plugs that fit your car so you dont have to cut wires. Good lluck with it.
Q: I have an old house with old wiring. I have no colors to go by.
You can test it with a voltmeter to something that is grounded like a metal water pipe. One wire will have 115 to 120 volts to ground (the hot wire) and the other will be 0 volts (the neutral). You may need one long piece of wire to reach from the water line to where you are testing the wires. Another way is to use a non-contact voltage tester. It will glow when it is next to the hot wire but not when it is next to the neutral. You can get them at a building supply or hardware store for about $10. I prefer the first method because it is more sure but the second one is easier. There is no positive or negative on AC wiring.
