- Q: the light on the power cable box is orange when the xbox is turned on does this mean the cable is broke or the console? thanks
- try taking all the cables out from the back of your xbox and tv and re-attaching them properly. If this does not work, consider going to the microsoft website under the help section, and see if you can find the answer. If not, then ring them up for free and they will tell you.
- Q: I live in the UK and I am going on holiday to Taiwan/Japan where the voltage is 110/100v as opposed to 220 here (i think).I was wondering if I could use a power extension cable (with multiple sockets) so that i would only need one adaptor to connect the extension to the mains and then I could just simply plug my 3 pin plugs into the cable saving me money and sockets. As it would be a lower voltage, I assume that there shouldn't be any problems with power however, if there are any electricians or anyone who has done this before I would really appreciate some guidance just to ensure that this is safe. Thanks is advance.
- An extension cord is just more wire. Wire doesn't care about voltage. (The insulation does care about voltage, but they're all rated to handle up to at least 300v). Same with terminal strips (multiple sockets). In either case, you're problem is not handling the voltage, but handling the different plug styles from one country to the next. In the UK, the prong are round, where in Japan, the prongs are bladed.
- Q: i just got a junked up PS2 and i'm taking it apart to see what all is wrong with it and do a thorough cleaning of everything inside and i discovered that the problem is the power eject ribbon cable is tattered. is there anyway i can make a homemade style cable or repair the old one. i know there are like 5 to 10 bucks but im a major cheapa$$ so to say so any tips or tricks???
- Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
- Q: So I'm trying to add a sata hard drive from an older computer in my new one, but I encountered a problem. I have the cable the connects to the motherboard and the hard drive, but when looking at the power connectors for the hard drives, there is only one and it is connected to the main hard drive. Am I missing something that is slapping me in the face here, or is this a design flaw? there are 6 hard drive holders sooooo, it seems that there should be 6 power cords inside, but no. Only one. What do I do?
- are you sure there's not 1 power cord with six plugs on it? often the power cables will have connectors all the way down them.
- Q: Hi, I have a router connected to the internet, but one of the computer is 80 feets away from the router and it can not get 100MBps. I have force the computer to use 10MBps. Could someone please let me know what will impact the speed of cat5 cabling?
- Power cables cause interference as well as distance and twists in the wire. I assume you have a cable that you made. Did you try a pre-made cable at a shorter distance to see if the ethernet card will do 100mb at all? If it works with the premade, you might have not wired the 80' cable correctly. Make sure you have the pairs crimped correctly in the connector. Pins 1 and 2 are a pair. Pins 3 and 6 are a pair. Pins 4 and 5 and 7 and 8 are paired as well. Example: Orange/white = pin 1 Orange=pin 2 Green/white=pin 3 Green = pin 6 Blue = pin 4 Blue/White = pin 5 Brown/white = pin 7 Brown = pin 8 I hope this helps.
- Q: I just bought a new computer, a DELL Inspiron 530. It has none of the older 4-pin power cables from the power supply; only the newer SATA power devices. I have an older hard drive, that connects via IDE cables (the gray ribbon). Ive already bought the card that converts the IDE to SATA, and it is connected to the mother board. Here is the problem: the IDE Hard Drive is powered with the 4-pin power supply that Ive seen on EVERY power supply before this one. The IDE to SATA converter came with an extension for that 4-pin power supply. But the power supply in the tower DOESNT HAVE ANY 4-PIN POWER ADAPTERS. It has one free SATA power. Im looking to take the SATA power from my power supply, convert it to the old-style IDE 4-pin power supply (female) and plug it into the 4-pin extension (male) that powers my hard drive and SATA-IDE converter. Most converters go the other way... Please post links with examples of parts, since I cannot find anything that lets me do what I am looking to
- I am afraid you are a victim of the penny pinching that companies like Dell need to do to make the machines at the price you want to pay for them. I would always recommend buying from a proper store (bricks and mortar) and taking a good look inside before parting with your cash. There are plenty of suppliers out there who will build a PC for you and look after you.
- Q: I have solid interconnects and speaker cable, but I was perplexed by the notion that the power cable that comes with your power source and preamp is somehow inadequate. It seems like another thing to try to market and sell to unsuspecting enthusiasts of an expensive hobby.
- No. However you can easily make your own high end cables buying iec connectors on line or if your gear does'nt have iec connectors, you can solder new cable in to it. I made my own 12 gauge cable with Wattgate interconnects, nice attractive wrap and 12 gauge entension cord I purchased at Walmart (50 feet made me a lot of power cords- cost me $16 for the extension and $10-12 per IEC connector and $16 for 50' of wrap ). Noticeable improvement? No, not at all- but my cable looks just as high end and as pretty as the fancy $100-300 stuff. If your scared of making your own cables, check out OKorder. There is a seller out there offering some really good looking cable ( I think it's 12g-14g ) priced at around $60. The home theater market is BIG business and there are companies out there with so many exaggerated claims about their products that it's mind-boggling. Well, gotta run, I need to put a line conditioner on my refrigerator so that it keeps my food fresher.... LOL.
- Q: I'm trying to install my radeon x800 xl graphics card into my dell inspiron 531 desktop. After inserting the card in the pci-e slot, and connecting the monitor cord to the card, I thought everything would work fine. I booted the computer and I got the error quot; You have not connected the power cable to your video cardquot; What do I need to do? This is an older video card, and I may have lost this supposed power cable. I'm lost with this and my computer won't even boot now. Any help is much appreciated. I'm willing to buy this power cord if i need to.
- there are lots of connectors coming off PC power supplies that provide 12V and can likely drive your graphics card. So if you want to get really brave and do some soldering you can probably make it work. For example, if you're not using your floppy, you can chop off that connector and wire it to your card.
- Q: even though it lights, its not so bright. its little dim but cpu is not at all turning on, its silent...
- CPUs don't 'light'. nothing ain't - nothing is not - everything is (that's what you really are saying). The power light may 'light', but if there is no CPU function, no power is going through the CPU. Probably a bad PSU (Power Supply Unit). Change it (cheap).
- Q: ok so i opend up my machine, and i bassicly took apart the processor and removed the dail up pci card thingy, then i put it all back together and i also took off the case, which meant removing all case power leads, quot;power SWand power led etc. but i put them all in the same place i took them out, well i think i did, theres so many different slots it they could go into, it would take at least 500 attempts to find the right slots for all, not to mention the fact i might blow the board. so has anyone got the manual for this motherboard. or no where to find an online one. cus i need to know where to plug them in. thanks
- With maximum motherboards there is purely one thank you to attach the flexibility cable to the board, otherwise it purely wont in effective condition. i think there's a splash notch on the cable which ought to line up with the notch on the board
