- Q: hello,i have lots of 8 gauge wire resting at my closet. And i'm very interested on doing the big 3 upgrade to my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt. May i see any improvement with 8 gauge wire?...i know that at least 4 gauge is recommended...but i dont want to spend money.
- Go cheap, get cheap. Improvement, maybe. But heres a secenario: current draw exceeds capacity of 8 gauge wire, insulation melts, positive wire grounds out, lots of smoke, fire.... no wait... FIRE! Oh s**t that's gonna cost me..... (a lot more than 4 gauge wire I'll bet...)
- Q: Blue and white wires contain insulated strands and red wire has a bundle of non-insulated strands. How are the two types of wires (insulated and non-insulated strands) used in homes (i.e. what are they used for?).
- The only wire I know of that has individually insulated strands, is Litz wire, used in radio frequency applications. If you mean the wire strands include such as a cotton strand, it is probably the core around which the other strands are spun.
- Q: Replaced the old fan in my bathroom (about 10 years old) with a new fan. Trouble is this. The fan and light each work on a seperate bathroom switch. I have two spots to install the wire on the new bathroom fan/light. One for the fan and one for the ligth. However, the wiring has one white, one black, one red and the ground. Anyone know what the red is? Can I just cap it off? According the bathroom fan wiring it says something about connecting red to blue. I am slighty confused. I think it was originally only wired between the white and black. I am not sure if I have to get some extra wire and connect the black and red to the light and the white to the fan? Extra wire is confusing.
- Red and black are both hot, white is neutral. Use black for fan and red for light or vice versa, depending on which switch you want to operate each one. Added - Have to hook up the white neutral wire to both the fan and the light, this creates the electrical circuit needed. You can attach all the white wires together with a wire nut.
- Q: Hi I have a ceiling fan/light to put up but after taking down the original rose, I am now unsure how to wire the existing wiring into the ceiling fan the wiring is a s follows:block 1 Live empty, red, red, block 2 loop all empty, block 3 neutral empty, black, blackthe connections on the fan are live neutral and earthGrateful for any help

- Q: I bought a new ceiling light and wired it myself. But I cheated by just copying the wiring from the old bracket into the new one. I want to do the other ceiling lights in my home. Supplied with the lights I am using is a 3 - way bracket (sori if terminology is wrong). Anyway the old bracket I copied was 4 way. My lights are wired from the mains supply with 3 live wires, 3 neutrals, and 3 positives. The light unit only has one live/neutral/positive wire. What do I do with the extra mains supply wires? I hope I have made myself clear as I even I am confused. Many thanks.
- One set of wires will be the mains feed the 2nd set will be the mains feed to the next light in the circuit and the 3rd set will be the switch wire. Copy like for like when changing them, taking care not to lose sight of the switch wire...
- Q: What role does the neutral wire play?
- A neutral conductor is used to provide two different supply voltage levels. Three-phase application: A 3-phase transformer with the secondary windings connected Wye with a line-to-line voltage of 480 V. If a neutral conductor is connected, the secondary would supply 480 V and 277 V (line-to-neutral). 480/1.732 = 277. Single-phase application: A single-phase distribution transformer with a secondary voltage of 240 V. If a neutral conductor is connected at the middle (center tap) of the secondary winding, the secondary of the transformer would supply 240 V and 120 V.

- Q: I know the ground wire takes unused electricity to the ground but what is the purpose of the neutral wire?
- The neutral wire is supposed to be the wire that functions to take the current from the hot side back to the power line. The ground is there as a safety measure - in 3 wire appliances, the ground is usually connected to the housing. It is there in case some part of the hot circuit becomes shorted to the appliance housing - if that happens on a modern 3-wire electrical system, it will cause the breaker to trip. Or, if the appliance is plugged into a ground fault interrupter GFI, that will generally trip first, before the breaker.
- Q: I have a 1997 saturn sc2. In the trunk of my car there was a wire dangling down from the top when i bought it. Asked seller and he didnt know. It is not the trunk light wire or has to do with any of the tailights, blinkers, brake lights. It looks like a factory wire. It has a bunch of holes in the connector.
- it might be a connector for a cd changer. if it has a factory radio with a cd button, but no in-dash cd slot, that could be what youre lookin at. sounds like a square plug? maybe 10 or 12 holes?
- Q: I NEED TO CHECK IF A WIRE IS GOOD ON A FITNESS MACHINE. HOW DO I KNOW IF ITS GOOD? WHAT SHOULD THE OHMS BE?
- Wire Ohms
