- Q: I wired an outdoor lamp-post. I tested it before wiring it to the fuse box...and if I touch the lamp-post I feel the current (a slight shock). I will be using a ground fault breaker....so I assume if I wire it to that I am going to loose the connection. Any thoughts on what is wrong?
- In addition to the answer Paul gave, check the wiring that the white wire is the neutral or common wire and that it goes to the shell side of the lamp holder. A few years ago, I had a similar problem, when all of the checks were made, the panel was wired with the black wires on the neutral buss. Hence all of the devices were wired backwards. Call a qualified professional electrician to do the work.

- You can order a new 944 wiring harness, but it is a lot of work. Much easier is to just get a good manual with a wiring diagram, and replace only the damaged wires, splicing at little as possible, as you go. I assume you just have some heat cracked wires, unless you had a fire or something? You can't take the harness from another car because all the connectors are going to be the wrong type, gender, or location. Especially things like the brainbox harness plug, etc.

- You need to get a test light and find a wire under the dash or coming from the ignition that has power when the key is turned on. - If the wire had some reasonable resistance which prevented melting of the wire and explosion of the battery; the middle of the wire would show half the potential difference between the terminals. The wire connecting the terminals becomes a potentiometer with Voltage falling linearly between the terminals (assuming uniform resistance along the length of the wire). In practice, Voltage drop on a wire supplying power to a load is proportional to the resistance of the wire divided by the resistance of the load. When the wire is the load, all Voltage drop occurs along the wire.

- I wish contractors followed the wiring / building codes. The white wires are neutral wires that return the circuit back to the panel. Grey? where in the world did that come from BUT I have to assume that it's the hot wire from the panel. Black black with the white tracer to your grey wire. White to the white if at all possiable put a screw in the box with the green wire or at least wrap it around the screw from the horseshoe that you are putting in the box. Be sure that the switch is off. If it's wired properly there will be no hot wire in the ceiling box. The hot is open at the switch. That's why the light doesn't turn on. Follow me?

- Q: so there are 3 different wires coming into the switch. 1 black wire and 2 white wires going to the attic fan (i assume one for high and one for low). the power seems to be coming from the black wire which has inside of it, one white wire (neutral) one black wire (hot) and one bare wire (ground).. the same for the 2 white wires. the switch goes up (^) for high and down (v) for low and has 3 places to attach the wires to. the top, the bottom and the middle.. can someone tell me how to wire this damn thing?
