- firstly to build a wall is classed as a non-tempory construction so you will probably have to ask your town mayer or local council if you can put one up first. and for a brick wall covered in cement would cost around ?35 per square metre. If you do decide to put one up try shaving one side of the tennis ball and then play around with that i have done this in the past when playing against my house wall and the idea behind it is so that it puts a spin on the ball and makes it change direction more so that you don't know where its going to come from which i think makes it a bit more fun and challenging.

- Iron oxide cement will colour the rock a distinctive rusty yellow-brown as a result of the significant presence of the minerals haematite and limonite. Calcite cement will leave the rock white but is soft, easily scratched by an iron nail and will fizz with the application of dilute hydrochloric acid. Silica cement will leave the rock glassy colourless, glassy white or rarely, a different colour but also glassy, it will resist being scratched by an iron nail, and will not react with dilute hydrochloric acid. The rock with the silica cement will be most resistant to weathering, and will normally remain as a positive relief feature around the surrounding rocks. The cement in the calcite cemented rock will tend to become dissolved away. The iron oxide cemented rock will be fairly soft but will resist erosion better than the rock with the calcite cement.

- Q: As in many modern houses, our en-suite shower is made up of tiles fixed onto plaster board. Over the years this has started to leak as the grouting failed, and the plaster board has become soggy and needs replacing. We have had two suggestions from different builders. One suggests ripping out the old plaster board and replacing it with quot;cement boardquot; onto which tiles would be stuck. The other suggestion involves cutting out the old plaster board, replacing it with new plaster board which would then be quot;sealedquot; before tiles are stuck onto it. Does anyone know which of these would be the better option please? Costs of both proposals appear to be similar so we really want the better engineering solution.
- I am no expert other than the re-muddling I have done around my own home, but I would say that the cement board route would be the better way to go. No matter how well sealed the plaster board is, it will eventually draw moisture due to the constant exposure over the years. Before the plaster board is installed, the shower pan should be installed. The plaster board is then installed to sit just off the lip on the inside of the shower pan but not above the edge of the pan. When they install the cement board (which, by the way, is used as exterior siding on homes in the south) make sure they tape and seal all the joints, a process similiar to installing wallboard, but done with a mesh tape and mortar, instead. A reputable drywaller or tiler should know to do this, but I would make sure ... this is no time for misunderstandings. Water damage inside a house can cause a multitude of problems, not the least of which is the shower coming through the downstairs ceiling one night when the boss is over for dinner.
- Q: I've read that you can repaint it if you decide you want a different color, but if you like the color can you just leave it or do you have to repaint it every few years, like wood siding?
- Unless you buy the cement board siding already painted you will need to paint it. As for painting it every few years like wood....the paint will hold up much better on the cement board.
- Q: I need to mix 25 pounds of cement for a garden project ( a large stepping stone). In the past I have found it really difficult and physically tough to get the cement mixed relatively quickly to get the cement poured in the mold. I am mixing in a mop bucket. Does anyone have any suggestions to make this project easier?
- if you have a hand drill then get a cheep paint whisk if your whisking up a slip ... when mixing by hand I always mix on a sheet of plastic/ tarpaulin makes mixing a lot easier by holding the edges you can mix and folder over your cement real nice.... another way if mixing small amounts is to mix in a heavy duty rubble sack .....saves a lot of back pain with the shovel

- i dont know all of the chemistry stuff, but the resin melts the plastic of the pipes, you stick them together, then the plastic from the joined pipes dries, and the pipes are now fused together

- The cement treads can move slightly within the wooden railings, so, either tighten (very) the bolts holding the concrete to the rails, or spray a minute amount of silicon around the bolts ... Kindest John
