- Q: does anyone have any experience in that? does it reduce the noise a lot or just a bit? and about the ceiling... my neighbors throw and drag things on the floor (they're mental cases, fruitcakes). i can't afford to move right now because the house is bought so i'd have to sell and buy another house. can't do that right now. and it always costs money.to what extent will the cement on the ceiling reduce the noise?what kind of windows are the best?thank you all...
- Cement on your ceiling will do nothing - except fall off. The only half decent solution is a suspended ceiling with glass fibre , or other acoustic insulation, laid across it, followed by two layers of plasterboard (drywall). Then sealing EVERY gap is the key. This is obviously a fairly costly exercise. As for windows, it is the GAP , not the glass, that provides SOUND insulation. If the existing windows are in good condition then consider fixing secondary glazing at a distance of AT LEAST 100mm (4 inches) from the existing, and use a glass with a different thickness to the existing (6.4mm laminated is a good option). This can be a fixed pane (easy to DIY) but put a sachet of silica gel between the panes to absorb any moisture) or sliding frames can be bought for where you need fire escape egress. Hope this helps.
- Q: If I scream in a room with wooden walls or cement walls, which one will work better at preventing my sound from reaching outside the room?
- Concrete or block will reflect the sound because of the hard surface, keeping it from transmitting. The wood will pick up and transmit the vibrations. That is why certain musical instruments are made of wood - they transmit and amplify the sound.
- Q: im 14 and im going to buy some weights for boxing, football, baseball basically for sports they have $60 100 pound golds gym cement filled weights im a beginner so do you think I should buy them because iron is too expensive and too young for gym
- cement may work but they will not last because they break when dropped. you can get them as a starter set and change later.
- Q: And no, I'm not talking about rubber cement. I need to glue a multitude of hard rubberized toy dinosaurs to various urban materials, mainly concrete or cement. What would be the best glue to use with the strongest and longest lasting bond? Epoxy? And if so, what kind of epoxy?
- i suggest a combination of gorilla glue and some kind of instant crazy glue. the gorilla glue is extremely strong, but not quick acting, while the instant crazy glue would hold it in place for a couple of hours of so while the gorilla glue dries. do not mix them together, just use in different places. also use small amounts of the gorilla glue because it tends to expand and ooze out when drying.
- Q: I used Black Jack roofing cement to fill a small gap where a piece of flashing was missing. I put a pretty good size bead/glob to ensure I filled in the small gap and the gap between the roof and the bottom piece of hardiplank. So, you can imagine how thick it is. It has be a good day and a half since I have done it and it's just as wet as when it came out of the tube. Is this normal? And, if it stays like will the force of a heavy rain mess the bead up? Thanks for any input!
- No, no, no.....don't laminate pieces of aluminum foil with plastic fibered cement as suggested. Foolish suggestion. Your glob will eventually develop a skin and slowly harden. Being summertime, it will take awhile. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't drop through the area your attempting to seal. When you decide to re-work the area purchase roll flashing aluminum.....you can cut it to any size or configuration desired and then the Black Jack.
- Q: history of the development of cement?
- Cement history Throughout history, cementing materials have played a vital role. They were used widely in the ancient world. The Egyptians used calcined gypsum as a cement. The Greeks and Romans used lime made by heating limestone and added sand to make mortar, with coarser stones for concrete. The Romans found that a cement could be made which set under water and this was used for the construction of harbours. The cement was made by adding crushed volcanic ash to lime and was later called a pozzolanic cement, named after the village of Pozzuoli near Vesuvius. In places such as Britain, where volcanic ash was scarce, crushed brick or tile was used instead. The Romans were therefore probably the first to manipulate the properties of cementitious materials for specific applications and situations.
- Q: what is cement ? this for a scince project we have to do this.?
- Cement is composed of five types of minerals such as limestone, shale, silica, pyrite and gypsum. Limestone were grounded from the impact crusher (mostly 1 cubic meter size) to as big as half the coconut shell, then it is will again passed through a jaw crusher from this size, it will be like 3/4. After this the lime stone will pass through the ball mill(a rotating drum consist of different sizes of ball metals) with other ingredients. The product will be like a face powder. (For Semi-dry process) This face powder like shall go through a tilted rotating pan, where a tricle of water will make a sphere size as size as a marble. This sphere size mixture shall pass through the calcining stage(this is removing the moisture in it). After the calcining stage, it will pass through a rotating kiln at a temperature of about 2,700 degrees celcius. This temperature is enough to burn and turn red your mixture(similar to volcanic lava). The product of these is like charcoal and what you call clinker. It will pass through the last process to make it cement. Another ball mill(mostly this is called the finished mill) and with the same texture(face powder like) and mixed this with gypsum then you got portland cement. Now are you ready to turn the soil into like a volcanic lava?
- Q: I want to re-do the tile that surrounds my tub walls because the old tile has water damage and rotted. I was wondering which type of tile cement backer board is better ? hardiebacker cement board or durock cement board ? and should I install a vapor barrier between the studs and backer board... I seem to get mixed opinions on that ?
- Oh, installing a vapor barrier behind the cement board is absolutely necessary. Tile with grout isn't waterproof at all, and you want to keep that moisture out of the wall. Some people even go beyond asphalt paper and insist on using a nail-hole sealing material like bituthane because they are that concerned about the moisture making its way through. Durock is better for walls that will be under constant barrage from water like a shower because it acts more like the troweled-on mortar a professional tile guy would use. Being more purely cement, it will be less likely to expand and contract than the hardi-backer, which contains more fiber.
- Q: what is the name of the cement used to build bridges?
- Usually Portland cement in a mixture of sand, gravel and water.
- Q: i used cement to seal large gaps in the house, but in an upside down suface where i used lots of it on, touching it makes parts of the surface turn into powder and chunks fall off. I did it rudimentary with my hands and a smoothed it as best as i could then but still looks and feels messy. The holes are filled and its solid, the surface though is powdery.
- My advice is to try experimenting with just 1 area that needs work. Generally, if you use less water, pack it in tight, it will be stronger more dense. If you have the time patience, you will get the right mixture gain experience. A little internet will help. Then move on to the rest of the areas that need work.
