Q:Hello All, I have had fixed dark brown tiles on my bathroom floor, however the guys did a bad job at it, and i can see the white cement in beween the tiles.. and its actually making the whole pattern look bad.. I was wondering if there was any way I could kind of colour the cement filling in between the tiles so that it blends with the colour of the tiles... ?Also any suggestions for removal of cement stains off these tiles? PLEASE Help, i am really in a mess here.
If this was just done , get them back to redo the areas with the thin set showing through. If this isn t possible the next best thing to do is to dig out the area with the thin set showing and regrout , with the same color of grout. You need to get the same manufacturer of grout or it won t look the same. You just can t go get some grout from any place and think it ll match. Has to be the exact same brand and color.. The last scenario is to stain the whole floor with a grout stain. It works but is a last resort way to cover the thin set. Take off any lumps or excess cement with a plastic or wood scraper. Cement stains ( as long as we are talking glazed ceramic tiles), you can 1 st scrub , dry , with a white nylon pad. After this is done , use an OTC grout and effervescent cleaner. This you mix with water, rinse well. Get the cement stain off before you do any thing with the thin set and grout. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. Q:How long till rubber cement sets?
Rubber cement is actually rubber in a solvent. As the solvent evaporates out, the rubber thickens more and more until it is hard. So, it varies, according to how much of the rubber cement is exposed to air so the solvent can evaporate. It works so well on paper and other things like paper because paper is porous. The paper is like nothing is there to prevent the solvent from evaporating. It will take forever to cement hard plastic since plastic is not porous and the solvent can only get out at the small edges that are uncovered. Nail polish is the same kind of dissolved solid, that hardens as the solvent evaporates out. In nail polish, the solvent is acetone, which is what is mainly in nail polish remover. Rubber cement also has a thinner available for when your can of rubber cement gets too thick.
Q:My contractor charged me $450 for cement for laying out 600 sq ft tile on the floor. He told me he used 27 bags. This is in addition to grout. Cost seems very high. How many bags is typically needed? Thanks a lot
Sam e mail me back thru my avatar and we ll get to the bottom of this. Somethings wrong. I have questions for you. You say cement, is that cement for a mud bed? Or do you mean cement ( thin set) to glue the tile down with? Some things not right either way.. Once I know what was what I can give you very close estimates on what you need. Edit/add on If its thin set to glue tile down and you did it with no waste ( throwing a bit away at the end of the day) you ll use 8 1/2 50# bags.. Lets just round it to 10 - 50# bags to make it even.. I m going to go high on a price of 15$ a 50# bag of a white latex modified thin set.. Thats $150 when I went to school.. Now where he came up with 450$ is beyond me. Thats why I d like to know if its the thinset your saying or regular cement for a mud floor. Then he d have to add sand onto this because a proper mud job is 2ns sand and Type 1 Portland cement .. E mail me Sam GL
Q:Hi~My husband is converting our attached garage into a living room. There is a crack down the middle of the cement floor and has caused it to heave a little. There are spots that the floor is uneven. He had planned on making a subfloor above the cement and then laying our new carpet. In the spring there is moisture in there, so now he thinks he needs to rip all the cement and start over. Is that really necessary? Is there some moisture barrier that can be put on the cement? I am not concerned about the uneveness. I think the carpet will hide that. He is a perfectionist and wants everything done right but I don't think its a big deal. Ny concern is the moisture and what to do for that. Thank You
There is a company called UGL (United Gilsonite Laboratories) that makes paint products specifically for concrete. Many of them are moisture barriers and some are designed for floors. I work in hardware/paint and a lot of my customers go with UGL's products because concrete is what they are designed for. I am sure there are other brands that offer the same qualities, but UGL is the one I am familiar with. Stop in to your local hardware store and someone in the paint department will probably be able to assist you. Hope this helps.
Q:Is the cement used for dental crowns antibacterial?
Hi, dental cements like GIC(glass ionomer cements), Resin cements help repel bacteria because of the fluoride release. They dont have antibacterial properties but only protects the tooth from adhering(sticking) bacteria. Zinc Phosphates with eugenol has bacteriostaric properties but it dissolves in saliva easily.
Q:Crack in cement floor of resdential ranch, crack runs left to right ( if facing front of house), tile was taken up and I verified that there was no moisture coming through. I checked around walls and did not see any indication that the cement floor has dropped. I am thinking it might be caused by roots? (very big pin oak (2 of) 15-20 feet away from house, ). If it is roots, would slab jacking be a waste untill roots are taken care of ?Thanks!
with out busting all of it our and re-pouring or jacking the two aspects to point and shimming the slab, your recommendations are as follows: you will get cement patch. you will get it in a tube or a small bucket counting on the quantity you will choose. this patch is versatile and could flex through fact the slab strikes with the temperatures. dig out as lots airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dust as you could from the crack and fill it point with the patch. then you definately can leave it and contact it stable or you could take it a step extra desirable and get some floor leveling compound and pour a skinny coat (some million/2) over the precise of the excellent floor to point it. later you could tile or lay vinyl floors striking over this. even however, if the crack is new, i could advise waiting some months to verify if the slab keeps to circulate as there's a bearing directly to underlying situation which incorporate a sinkhole or root device inflicting the cement to buckle.
Q:I want to open building materials store main cement: tiles and the like. How much money to invest in the root. Store area of more than 100 square feet
I suggest you use ecological wood decoration, the effect of the bar
Q:For project
As i recall, yes, it will work. If it is just a project, ok. But I wouldn't run water through it or use it for plumbing or have it under pressure.
Q:how does cement contribute to greenhouse gases ?
Because cement is derived from limestone. The limestone is quarried certain blocks of this limestone are heated in a lime kiln. The limestone (Calcium carbonate) is reduced to Quick Lime (Calcium Oxide) as a result of the heating of the rock in a kiln driving CO2 off in the process. However, when the cement is mixed with sand to make cement, the addition of water opens up the chemistry to change the calcium oxide to calcium hydroxide. Further than that, the calcium hydroxide, tries to re-incorporate the driven out CO2 back. At the time of hardening, the cement is a different chemical to what it had been at the time the cement was being mixed.
Q:I'm doing a small outdoor project and I need to stick some construction paper on to painted aluminum. I have some rubber cement from a craft store. Will this adhere to the metal and survive outdoor conditions of snow, wind, rain etc?
Nope. Contact cement would be better. But I don't think anything will last long out of doors. Even the paper will start to fall apart after the first rain or heavy dew. And the sun will also cause it to decompose. Paper does not do well outside. You may have to rethink your project.
