- Q: well i'm pretty poor and my house and almost everything in it is ghetto. i mean but it works. anyways all i do is workout with my body weight and i'm getting bored of that. I do pull ups on a tree branch. i hang upside and do abs with tree brances. do push ups with my little sisters on my back. but i want to lift weights so i wanted to make my own. can you guys help? with instructions. materials i need. prices. thanksi am perfectly happy with only dumbbells because you can do everything with dumbells. and i can use the ground as my quot;benchquot;thanks!
- Empty milk jugs, fill with sand or dirt and screw the cap back on for dead weights. If you can afford cement, (about $5 per bag for ready mix, just add water) fill them with cement and stick a pipe in the jug necks and let harden. You might want to set the jug on a scale as you fill it, so you know exactly how much each end of the bar weighs. You don't want one end weighing more than the other end. By the way, doing push ups with your sisters sitting on your back can injure the back by slipping a disc and tearing the cushion between the disc. All of her weight is on a few vertebrae instead of being distributed evenly on your back. To make the push up harder, put your feet up on a step so your head is down. That way your arms are lifting more of your body weight.
- Q: My fiance and I recently purchased our first home. It's a fixer upper. We are starting with the front yard which due to previous owners negligence is a disgrace. The patio had two giant cracks in the cement which I patched up. The next day the cement was cracked again right where I patched it up. What happened and how do I fix it?
- they didnt get a good base under it would be my guess. so when the ground moves the slab moves. best bet...tear it out and have it done right. 4 in. base of crushed stone and a 4 in. slab. tell them you want a 3500 lb. mix, with air added and fiber added. make sure it is jointed correctly. you dont need a footer under a patio unless it is raised up, and then we call that a porch...
- Q: My basement shower is basically just a cement slab with a drain and fiberglass walls. What's a rough ballpark cost estimate to tear out the cement shower and replace it with a modern glass stall and/or a tile shower?
- 800.00 to skys the limit thats a pre engineered pre fab glass enclosure installed
- Q: I was told to measure sand and cement to get the right mix for 4-1, rather than by volume, how do you weigh it? And am mixing by shovel for 10cm wide by 10 metres by 8cm thick, so was told to mix it all up together at one time rather than doing it every 30 mins. I have a small plastic container to mix, what else should I use to mix on?Do i use sharp sand and cement or plasterers sand, a builder told me plasterers sand
- A standard mortar is made of cement:sand:water, keep them at the ratio: 1:3:0.5, by weight, thus you will get a good quality.
- Q: I am working on planning my eagle scout project. It is being done at a local elementary school. Part of it involves building a pathway from their bus area to the entrance so the students don't walk through the grass. The path is about 70 feet long. Would it be cheaper to use cement or to build it out of bricks. Also, which would be easier? Thanks, Johnny.
- Johnny Congrats on almost completing your eagle scout! I know that is a huge honor and it is so generous for you to work at an elementary school and take care of the kiddos (: I would say that it is probably cheaper and more sustainable to build the path out of cement. I have done some research in that field of building and that is what i find best for my wallet and time wise! Best of luck to you!
- Q: Hello. Can you tell me how cement, concrete and glass is made? And if possible, adding a bit of history into it?
- the generic term cement simply means binder or glue; hydraulic cements are those which bind and harden in the presence of water. Early construction cements were usually clays mixed with an aerated volcanic rock called pumice; later mixtures included chalk (a high grade limestone composed of coccolithic (spherical stones) carbonate structures. What we commonly call cement and mostly use in construction and landscaping today is a type of cement called Portland cement, which was accredited to Joseph Aspdin in 1824; a mixture of ground (often low grade, or impure) limestone and clays containing aluminium sulfates. Gypsum (hydrous calcium sulfate) may be added to the mixture if more sulfates are needed. Concrete is an artificial conglomerate (in geology, a conglomerate is a rock made up of often metal-rich stones set in a matrix of sand and fine clays) where the binding matrix is composed of (usually) Portland cement and clean sand, and stones (commonly called gravel or road metal); without the stones, the mixture can be a mortar (used to bed and bind bricks or blocks) or a render (a thick paste used to dress bricks and blocks). Glass is commonly composed of melted quartz sand (silica); limestone is added to the silica to prevent recrystallisation when it cools.
- Q: ive been waterproofing basements for 13 years. we jackhammer concret all day and the basements get very dusty. masks are worn but their not 100%
- I've only tried it once. I prefer cocaine.
- Q: What is Oilfield cement, is it the same as the cement that cars drive on?
- I have never worked in the Oil Patch, but I believe oilfield cement is a mixture of sand, aggregate and a barium compound (barium carbonate, maybe). If you look at the Periodic Table, you will see that barium lies under calcium, and has the same properties (more or less). Since barium is denser, when an over-pressured oil reservoir is breached, this mixture plugs up the drill hole until the well can be capped. This is a major use of the element barium.
- Q: hey guys i know what the blue cement does for my teeth it helps me not to touch my bottom teeth giving it space but was wondering does it get better in a week or two? i have the blue cement on both of my molars and i have braces on both upper and bottom teeths. Does chewing get any better? i cannot chew properly and it hurts a bit. also when do the orthondontist take the blue cement off?
- Uuuggggghh the blue cement. I hated that stuff. The texture was so weird and... bleh. Anyway, it took me about a month, maybe 3 weeks, before chewing got to be more normal, once the cement started wearing down. Don't worry, eventually it does wear down and you'll be able to eat like normal. The orthodontist will take the cement off when your overbite is improved enough. For me, it took about... 10 months, I think. But it all depends on your individual case, and your orthodontist. I know one girl whose ortho never actually removed the cement. She doesn't care, because the blobs are so tiny by now, but it happens.
- Q: Ok well here is the thing. I just got my botom braces the other day and now I have this cement in between my bite to stop me from bitting on my brackets so that bottoms don't come off. I am very aware that I have an over bite. But why did they have to do this. The cement is pilled very high and makes it impossible to chew any kind of food. And I am supposed to wait a month and keep it like this. Has this happened to anybody? If so what did you do? And why does the orthodontist do this? Aren't there other ways to acheive this without using cement in between the teeth. It hurts really bad and feels really weird. I am just not sure what to do. All help is apreciated.
- The nickname for this cement on your molars is speed bumps and you're right, it's used to keep you from biting off your lower brackets. Many orthodontists use this when their patients have deep bites. By leaving the bumps on your teeth for a month, the lower teeth can level out quite a bit and really get a lot of correction on the deep bite. Some people adapt to these quite easily, but it sounds like you're having some trouble. Try eating soft foods, like soup, mashed potatoes, etc. since chewing is difficult for you right now.
