- If you had it for 5 years it won't close up since its healed up. The holes on mine are pretty small but I have hair covering mine so you can't see it but I've only had mine a little over a month. I do have other piercing that haven't ha anything in for a while and they are not closed like my belly button and I got that done about 7 years now.

- Clean it like any other piercing. Use saline solution like H2ocean or Bactine. Avoid rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. You can also use a mixure of non-iodize sea salt and warm water to soak it. You could use gloves, or simply apply the cleaner with a q-tip. Its easier than gloves but still keeps bacteria from your hands off. goodluck :)

- Try wearing latex gloves (if you aren't allergic to latex.) This can hep you get a grip on the ends. You can go to your piercer and they will help you take it out. If you don't want to lose the piercing altogether, you can ask them to put small rings in it. This should ease and pressure and discomfort you are having.
