Q: The corners on my rugs are starting to curl up because they are getting old.. and loved! They go perfectly with the rest of my decor so I don't what to have to go find new ones.: I was in the same position a few months ago! Some people told me to use double-sided tape but that only worked on hard floors.. and that wasn't even every good. I ended up getting Ruggies or Ruggie Rug Grippers - they have worked great for me to secure mats on both hard floors and even on carpets. They're also reusable- if you just rinse it off, they will easily restick to a new rug.

Q: I was wondering how shark steam mop performed on carpets. does it remove stains and spots?: I don't own one, but they appear to be designed for hard flooring such as tile and linoleum. There's only a cloth at the bottom where the steam passes through. I think you'd really be struggling trying to use one on carpet. A better alternative would be a carpet cleaner, Bissell and Hoover are both good brands. Expect to pay $150-300 and up. But for a budget, I love the Little Green Machine by Bissell which is much smaller. Don't try to clean an entire carpeted area with it or you'll be exhausted! But it's great for cleaning upholstery and for picking up spills on carpet, and doesn't take up a lot of storage space. Costs around $100 and you can get it at WalMart and many other retailers. Then if you need to do your whole carpet, you can rent an extractor for around $25 (check with your local supermarket, they probably rent Rug Doctor, etc.). You can get the job done in a day and not have a bulky machine taking up valuable closet space the rest of the year.

Q: so about two days ago i spilt a huge bottle of maple syrup on my carpet. i used some 409 carpet cleaner and i sprayed a lot of febreeze but the entire room still smells like syrup and the area where the syrup spilt has made the carpet really stiff and hard. how do i get the syrup out and make the carpet go back to normal?? i also dont want to use bleach or anything cause then the color change would be noticible: How about renting a carpet shampooer? They make small ones for spot cleanup.

Q: I just looked at a fantastic apartment...but it has this horrible brown shag rug in the main room! It just looks way too retro and reminds me of my grandparent's basement rec. room. Just remember that if your furniture isn't really modern or simple the theme will crash. This will not be a room for Victorian or mahogany furniture. Think clean lines and simple strong colors.
