Q: my daughter got play doh all over my carpet....new play doh...how do i get it off the carpet
Let it dry, stomp on it with your shoes on to break it up, then vacuum.
Q: Someone told me that decorators have a general rule for the size area rug you need for a room. It is something about a certain number of feet of exposed floor around the perimeter of a room. Does anyone know about this? Thanks.
Generally (not a hard rule) leave about 1ft- 3ft if you are doing a rug for the whole room. A 6x9 rug is fine for 10x 10 room. It is easy to find for a ready made rug in retail about 6x9. I more expensive but good choice is an 8x8 square if you can find it. 5x8 would be ok but I would say don't go any smaller. Put the furniture on the rug you get, rather than pushed all against the wall.
Q: How do I get the carpet joint?
No fixed laying method: carpet cutting into a whole piece of adhesive joint, direct spreading on the ground, with the ground around the corner to trim the bond. This approach is suitable for the ground often rolled up the carpet or not often, weight room. Fixed: the carpet will be cut and bonded, into a seam, and around the floor of the room to be fixed. By using two kinds of methods: one is the carpet around the surface and the ground paste with binder or double-sided tape; the other is a wooden card with our upward nail in the room installed in the surrounding ground, the carpet back in a nail on a small wooden card.
Q: Ok ... So I have two messy boys at home, a 2 year old and a 23 year old. They are, like I said, messy. There's nothing I can do to make them cleaner, so I was thinking about gettinga long rug to go in front of our couch. The couch is a dark green, our carpet is a light beige. Would that look retarded, or like a blatant cover up? And if I get one, what color should it be? Our walls are a light off white.
Nothing wrong with that. I have a large area rug over my carpet. I do roll it up every once in awhile to vacuum under it. Find a pattern rug which won't show stains. Use the colors in the sofa, carpet, and accent color. That'll be a safe bet. If you have a coffee table in front of the sofa the area rug won't show all that much. And if you didn't like it, roll it up before company arrives. At least the carpet will be clean. When my kids were small, I told them I was going to pull up the carpet and live with concrete floors. Just hose the floor when needed. Of course, they didn't care.
Q: What causes carpet around the edges to turn grey in a stairwell?
The technical term, as used by the carpet cleaning industry, is Filter Dirt. This term refers to soil/dust that has passed through the furnace duct work, and the furnace air filter, and has now attached it self to the carpet fibers. When this dust is circulating through the house, from the cold air return to the heat/air ducts, it picks up an electric charge which makes it difficult to remove from the carpet fibers. When it shows up on the edge of each step, it is thought that the dirt/soil is coming up from the under side of the steps, through the small crack in the wood base holding up the steps. Some people plagued with this problem, have replaced the carpet ,and prior to this, caulked the seams between the steps and the wall. You need to look at getting your air ducts professionally cleaned. They should be cleaned every 5 years, anyway. also, you may need to consider replacing your furnace air filter with a paper pleated style. Do not purchase the 3 for a dollar fiberglass style. The cheap filters have the ability to only trap golf balls and pop cans. They allow most soil and dirt to pass right on through the system. Change your furnace air filter every 4 months religiously. Use a black marker to write on the duct work near the furnace of your change out dates. This gives you a written filter change out record in an appropriate location. The carpet cleaning industry does have a solvent based product to help clean the filtration soil from the carpet. One is called Filter Out. from Pro's Choice. Sometimes the stains are permanent, as the soil while traveling between the air ducts is picking up cooking oils from the kitchen, making for a difficult oil/dust, electrically charged stain to remove. These stains are also found around furniture setting right on the floor, and under doors that remain closed. Hope I've given you some guidance to help deal with future filtration soil problems in your home. (3M makes the best paper pleated air funace filters)
Q: whats the difference between the two? i've done latch hooking but im wondering if rug hooking is the same thing or close?
2 differences, first you don't get precut yarn with rug hooking, you use a skein or ball of yarn, starting from the back with your hook on the top, pull the yarn through, making a continuous line. 2nd the hook in rug hooking does not have the latch over the hooky part. I did quite a few latch hook projects and tons of fun. I just recently learned rug hooking while on vacation. At first it is a little harder, getting a even tension and so that the pile of yarn on the top is all even and not splitting the yarn. What I like better about rug hooking is not dealing with all those precut pieces of yarn. Experience: beginning hooker er um rug hooker
Q: I am moving into a new house and the landlord left his red curtains behind and I do not plan on replacing them. What color throw rug can I purchase to match them? My couch is a tan color and I usually like neutral tones, which is probably why the red curtains are throwing me off. Any suggestions? (Would like a rug that would work with several color schemes)
you can stick with neutral tones. The throw rug doesn't need to have red in it. But your curtains make a room and red does seem like a very bizarre color.
Q: I'm looking for a giant rug for my dorm room next semester but I don't even know what kind of rug to look for. I want something incredibly soft but I don't have the money for something like these alpaca fur rugs I keep seeing. Does anyone know what types of rugs there are out there? The softer, the better! Thanks!
If you have a local carpet store maybe you could see if they have old sample carpet pieces that you could take for either free or really cheap and make them into a rug yourself. Backing shouldn't be too expensive, and you could actually apply it with caulk to make it more permanent.
Q: Life span is 5 years on this bright white carpet. They lived here 2 years before us, and didnt replace the carpets before we moved in, and we lived here for 2 years.. Meaning the carpet is currently 4 years old out of the 5year life span. We did normal wear and tear, and we did make a few spots but nothing huge or horribly bad. Anyways, they want us to pay for the whole carpet cost. Is that right? Were in minnesota
Carpet life span is much longer than 5 years. Spots are not normal wear and tear, ever.
Q: I'm thinking about buying a 9'2 x 12' 11 rug, but there are no rug pads with these dimensions. The closest pad size would be 8 x 10. Is it okay that the rug pad doesn't fit exactly with the rug or do I need to get a custom rug pad?
