- Q: We have a fairly large area rug in our living room but over time it has become wrinkled. I don't want to buy a new one yet, so how can we get it to lay flat against the carpet and not bunch up with stubborn wrinkles anymore?
- Hang the rug up if you can and spray it with water and see if you can work the wrinkles out by pulling of them. Good Luck
- Q: My daughter just spilled some Sunny D onto the carpet and it is not coming out. Any suggestions. I tried Oxy Clean, Resolve Carpet cleaner, and that other Duel Action one. NOTHING helped. Any home remedies..........Please help! This isn't the first time this happened. And still a light orange stain on my carpet. I would have thought that this would have came out easily considering that it is orange juice.
- Give this a shot!! Dish washing or fine fabric detergent, white terry towels, white vinegar, warm water, measuring cup, spoon, vacuum. Work on removing the stain as soon as you notice it. The longer the stain is left on the carpet the greater the chances are of the stain setting. In every case remove all excess wet or dry material before attempting to clean. Blot wet materials using a white terry towel (check helpful hints for a detailed description of blotting). Vacuum excess dry materials or gently scrape up materials with a spoon. Mix 1/2 tsp. of dish washing soap or fine fabric detergent into 1 (8 oz.)cup of warm water. Apply a small amount, blot or tamp and repeat until the stain is removed. Be patient. Complete removal may reqiure repeating the same step several times. Tamp down on the carpet, do not scrub as this may distort the texture of the pile. Cover the stain with the towel and press down repeatedly to absorb the stain material and detergent. Once the stain is completely removed, rinse the area with cold water; blot with a dry white terry towel until all moisture is removed. Repeat this process several times to remove cleaning solution residue. (Residue can attract soils). If the spot or stain turns brownish when dry, mix 1 part white vinegar and two parts water. Apply a small amount and blot. Repeat only once. Precautions: Never use a stronger concentration than is recommended. Never laundry detergent or automatic dish washing detergents because they may destroy or dye some fibers. Hope this helps...
- Q: hi im 14 and love stuff for my room, i just got it re-painted and i got new things for it, today i purchased a rug from Home sense, its 5 by 7 and really nice, it was $159 canadian dollars but was originally(get this) $300!it was made in china and says its hand made the brand/company is:Momeni its soft and pretty but all the rugs there were made in India and stuff...what do ui do..its non-refundable.
- It's too cheap a rug to be hand made by children. Those types of rugs cost in the thousands. And don't trust that anything in China is hand made in the sense that you are asking. Just because a different culture has different labor laws does not mean you shouldn't buy the product. If you had to gauge each of your purchases on that basis you wouldn't be buying anything these days. Everything we buy is made overseas and in each instance no one is paid what you would consider fair wages and no one cares in those countries who makes it. When poverty runs so high, everyone has to work and they are glad of it. So lose the high moral ground attitude and enjoy the rug.
- Q: We have off white carpet (which is now brown and stained) that is 10 years old. We have two toddlers (more to come) and 3 dogs. The dogs come in from outside right onto the carpet. I am looking for a flooring solution that will meet our needs. I expect our future holds many more carpet stains so I am looking into carpet tiles for our family room. I know, not pretty but functional. What do you all think? Are there some higher quality carpet tiles whereby our family room won't look like cheap office carpet? We don't want tile and we do not want laminate as we need soft floor for dogs and kids. Real hardwood would be nice but price prohibitive. Please let me know if you have any experience with carpet tile and what your general outlook on carpet tile/squares is. P.S. when we sell the house we would go ahead and put in new quot;realquot; carpet before we move.
- Carpet Tile is great. We did that for our finished basement and it looks just as good as any other carpet. It washable, which makes it easy to maintain. I'm at work, and can't remember the brand name. I'll check when I get home and let you now what it is. It fits together like puzzle pieces. Once you vacuum it you can't see the lines.
- Q: What about carpet foaming?
- Powder cleaning: Sprinkle the powder onto the carpet, then brush it and then vacuum it. This method is not cleaned by water. After cleaning, you can walk on the carpet, but the cleaning power is poor.Spray cleaning: spray the lotion onto the carpet, wipe with foam pad and absorb the stain. This method uses less water and can be washed within a short period of time. But not very suitable for woolen carpets.Warm water stains: use spray and vacuum cleaners to spray warm water onto the carpet, then vacuum it immediately. This operation is simple, do not hurt the pile.
- Q: do you have to have a specific prayer rug? I have one from Saudi Arabia. Would that work
- It is not necessary to have a prayer rug with you but say if your travelling you probably need one because you wont prostate on stones would you? and prayer rugs are comfortable as well. the one you have will work easily.
- Q: Please define a "RUG" ?
- 3. Always refer to a Rug for pieces measuring 5'x8' or less, and a Carpet as 6'x9' and over. Like to get more technical? A rug measuring less than 3 feet in width and over 6 feet in length should be considered a runner. A carpet measuring 3 foot to 4 foot wide and over 7 feet long should be termed as a wide runner. A carpet measuring 4 feet to 5 feet wide and over 10 feet long is considered a Gallery Runner. A round rug is called a round, a square rug is called a square.
- Q: I have dark brown (medium chocolate, I'd call it) warm modern style leather sofa and love seat in a white room with 10 foot ceilings (I can't paint). The floors are oak, as is one book case (modern lines, arts and crafts style detail). The feet of the sofa are a dark walnut color. The accent pieces in the room will be yellow hues (artwork, vase, throw pillows). What sort of area rug should I get? Colors, patterns? Links to examples would be awesome. I'm getting more furniture, but I think the rug could really warm up the room. I'm concerned about getting something that looks too country or contemporary against the modern lines of the furniture.
- I would guess something in a med to large rectangle shape, where the wood floor would show around the edges, with med.size patch squares, in colors of terra-cotta, gold, rust, orange, med.brown, cream. I can't figure how to get a site set up on here, But you can try going to a walmart, big lots, k-mart store, I know I've seen the pattern i mention at big lot, but whether they still have it, im not sure, home depot, has a lot to pick from. I hope I've been of some help.
- Q: Gouache paint stuck on the carpet, how to get rid of?
- Can use water soaked sticky paint, the gouache properly dissolved with water after brushing, make up the water with a paper towel dipped in dry. And then use special carpet cleaner, local cleaning. Although it is water-based paint, it should be treated as soon as possible.
- Q: My dog has now peed on the entire futon. If I rent a a rug doctor (from local grocery store) will it work on a futon? The futon is only about 4inches thick. I'm wondering if the rug doctor will be able to suck up the water it jets out, or if it will just make the futon wet?
- Having used a Rug Doctor many times, I seriously doubt that it would do any good in your situation. Yes, it does have good suction power for carpets, but even then, it requires time for the underlayment (usually foam padding) to dry, also. I wish I had a good answer for you. The responder that suggested you get the attachments, may be the best answer, just trying to suck the water out may be all you can do. Good luck...
