Q: How big is a 8 x 12 rug?No rude answers please If your not going to help me thank you! :)
12 feet one way and 8 feet the other.
Q: It has dried on the carpet
you can buy a tar remover from any janitorial supply store. this easily removes tar but I would rent a steam machine to clean the carpet and work on the stain or just call a cleaning company to come in and do this for you.
Q: Can carpet be laid in the kitchen?
Meaning is it is best not to lay where there is most likely to cause a fire , the kitchen is generally a family source of fire, if you really want to decorate the kitchen, do not lay it for safety reasons
Q: what color of carpet would go good with a white bed skirt??
Uh, any. White goes with everything. With what other colors are you working?
Q: how do I find out how much its worth?
What are commonly known as persian rugs are actually made in wide ranging locales in eastern Europe, Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. You might do a Yahoo search for persian rugs and get lucky enough to identify the pattern of your rug, but it will take the eye of an expert to give you definitive information. Best bet is to take your rug to a reputable rug dealer in your area. They will be able to identify the rug, determine age and origin, assess condition, recommend cleaning and preservation, and assess its' value. Good luck with your search for information.
Q: Is it hard to remove a carpet yourself, or should i hire someone?? Im not really good at that type of thing but just wondering how hard it is. Would i need special equipment or soemthing? and how long would it take me? Thanks
I have done ceramic tile for thirty years. Carpet comes up real easy. Most of the other answers are correct. Carpet is only held down by tack strips around the edge of the room. Pad is usually glued down with just a few runs of glue. You can buy a cheap four inch razor scraper at Home Depot to scrape the glue up. The tack strip you just use a hammer and a pry bar or screw driver to pop it up. Then it depends on what kind of flooring you are putting back down as to how well you have to scrape and clean your floor.
Q: We just got new carpeting last year in our family room, and are driveway is flat. It rained really hard three days ago, and the water came into the house and got are carpet soaked! We borrowed a carpet cleaner that sucked up about six buckets of water, but now its dry enough that it isnt sucking anything else up, but the carpet is still wet. It also smells like mildew in our house now. I sprayed Febrez, but the smell keeps coming back. Any ideas on how to get the rest of the water, and the smell out of the carpet?
It is probably ruined. See if your homeowner's insurance covers it.
Q: I just replaced my old area rug. The old one was great , I could steam clean it , take it outside and rinse it off and let it air dry. No problems for 4 years, it just got worn out. I replaced it with the same rug from the same store, but the carpet came loose from the backing were I had spot cleaned it. When I vacuumed it pulled out 6 foot of string. I took it back and they replaced it. This new rug, seems a little better, but the backing seems cheap. Is there a way I can re-enforce the backing so the carpet does not come loose from it when I clean it? Would applying carpet seaming adhesive to the entire rug work?
no that wont work. things are being made cheaper these days, you get what you pay for. Sorry!
Q: I don't think it would be a good idea to have one in a dorm (harder to clean, etc.) so what should I tell my roommate? She won't give up on trying to convince me.
If your only reason for not wanting the rug is that it would be more difficult to clean, then agree to get a shag rug only on the conditions : 1. she purchases the rug (which will then obviously be hers to keep once you two stop living together); 2. she cleans the rug; AND 3. she doesn't get bent out of shape if you think the rug needs cleaning and you then ask her to do so. If she is trying THAT hard to get you to okay having a shag rug, then I'd let her do it, as long as she knows that it is her responsibility to clean it, AND that cleaning is subject to both of your subjective opinions on cleanliness.
Q: I have white carpet and after years of living we have accumulated many stains throughout the house. It always looks dirty! I own a carpet shampooer and use it frequently but a week later the stains resurface and it all looks yucky again. Do you have a good stain pre-treater for me? Or any other suggestions?
The reason this happens is because most of the time the padding is saturated to. What you want to to do is clean the fibers but do not let the water get to the padding. If you have to clean a spot.. make sure you place paper towels on the spot and press till it no longer shows wetness. I use Resolve and spray it lightly and use a clean white tightly rung out. Rub the spot gently , and do it again over and over till the towel no longer has a stain. After you finish, place paper towels over the stain and place a heavy object .. Since it is already damaged , clean the fibers.. don't wet the carpet..padding.. Do not let anyone walk on it till it is completely dry. if you have to designate a space to walk. It might take days even if it is warm. then change the designated area and clean that. do the same.. wick.. imagine a candle , the wick brings up oil.. same happens with carpet..Always vacumn well..You might need to get a dry cleaning solution.. Good luck.. I
