- The carpet can be cut to any size (s) or shape you want. Most all carpet store will have access to binding or a few will do it on site. You ll have a color chart to pick the binding or surging thread color you want to match the carpet. They ll charge you by the lineal foot to be bound. - Go to home Depot. They sell pure Acetone (the stuff nail polish remover comes from.) Pour some on a rag and place the rag on top of the stain to soak for about 20 minutes or so, then come back and scrub, it may not get it all on the first try, make sure to use an absorbent cloth to get it up or else your carpet will be saturated. - There are so many options. You have to deside what look do you want. When you do decide, do more homework as to see if you can do it yourself, or if someown sels needs to be called. If so, get several estimates, and go with your gut good luck.

- Try and get the owner to replace the carpet or at least pay to have it professionally cleaned. Do-it-yourself steam cleaners do not work nearly as well as the professional cleaners can get it. if all that fails, go rent a Rug doctor and do it yourself, but like I said it will not work as well. Also, try and find out if there is a particular location for the smell as it could be mildew or something like that in a certain area of the apartment. you could even have a leaky pipe causing it to smell bad. BTW, if this is a basement apartment, it might be a damp smell from being underground.

- A lot of carpet stores sell remnants and will cut to whatever size you want. Typically, you want a minimum of 2 feet smaller than the room all the way around--so it would be 7x8 for you. However, maybe you don't want to center the rug in the room--you might not want to have carpet under your bed as most college students use the bedrisers and underneath the bed for storage (things will slide out easier with no rug). You might consider a standard 5x7--The Home Depot usually sells bound berber and other other area rugs this time of year for dorm rooms and they are cheap. Check out their remnants also--it is easy to cut the carpet yourself to size if you buy a carpet knife there.
