- I adore our Svan. It's not for everyone, and the price tag is a bit steep. ($250 plus about $40 for the pad set.) But here's why it works for us: * We have a small, open-floor plan main room. We didn't want a bright, plastic chair that screamed BABY! We wanted something subtle, modern and interesting. The Svan comes in several wood finishes - we went with cherry. * We wanted something that would go from his first feeding to the time he was ready to sit in a regular chair. The Svan adjusts nicely, and will actually become a desk chair eventually. (It can hold a 250 pound adult!) * We were looking for a chair that worked with a tray or without - this one is secure when we pull our son up to the table to sit with us, but the tray works very well, too. Lastly, we realized after we bought the chair that being able to adjust the footrest and the seat means that our son can actually climb into the chair himself!

- We got the Fisher Price 'space saver' chair (the one that is just the highchair top and straps securely to any barstool or chair) and we LOVE it!! Our dining table is low, but we have a pub height table with barstools that we use at breakfast or for casual meals, so we can move it from table to table and always have her at the same height. I can even take it off the chair and set it on the living room floor with toys on the tray while we watch a movie. It converts to a booster seat down the road and will be really easy to store in a closet for future babies! It's also about $100 cheaper than similar models with legs. You want to look for one that's easy to clean and holds the baby at a good angle (some are too upright). Online reviews are always helpful for finding out this information before you make a purchase!

- In the process of researching four, heavy, solid walnut, bentwood, captain's chairs that I rescued from a Winston-Salem, NC office that closed in 1990 after 50 years of operation, a reference Librarian named Katherine Arends found a small book in the Siler City Library in 2001 to help me with the company history. The book was called Boling: The Story of a Company and Family by John Harding (1979). According to this book the company started in 1901 as Siler City Bending Co. and made things like traces for carriage harnesses. On Jan 9, 1904, it became High Point Bending and Chair Company with founder Captain Malvola Jackson Boling. It was named High Point because of the heavy investment in the furniture industry from a nearby city of that name. In 1956 it became Boling Chair Company. In the year 2001 it was still in existance in Siler City and known as Boling Group. Further research has led me to believe that the chairs I have are probably from 1926 --- celebrating their 80th (deleted)day. They are in excellent condition and continue to be well-loved and appreciated for their comfort and many years of service.
