- You slide down the chair to get off or while you're working. Your hair falls out.. or somebody else's hair does, and they land onto the chair into the seat. You somehow manage to get them underneath your butt and you slide down the chair and this sweeps all the hairs togehter into clumps at the edge of the chair.

The chair was obviously evolved from the tree. if it has similar qualities (i.e. wood!) it must have been that at one time. On a serious note you who have answered before me: Yes, I think there is such a thing as adaptation where a species will take on different traits to help it survive better in it's habitat, but there is NO evidence for one creature turning into another completely different creature, which is what I learned evolution to be from my teachers in public school. if there was evidence to that we would see it here and now. Monkeys are still monkeys; people are still people; butterflies are still butterflies...(and to that earlier statement about butterflies and caterpillers; my understanding of evolution is that all of a sudden a fish will mate and have babies that have legs and can walk on the ground or apes will give birth to a human. Caterpillars are larvae and their adult form is a butterfly. Just because it looks a little different doesn't mean it evolved into a completely different species. A butterfly is still going to produce caterpillar larvae who will turn into butterflies and continue the cycle.) Those of you who believe in evolution then must also be racist because according to your believes, dark skinned people are closer to apes than white skinned people and are therefore not as evolved as white people. - Q: My boyfriend and I were laying on the recliner chair one night and we went all the way back on it and when we were trying to put the foot rest part down, I had to force it down with my hands. Now I notice that I can't use the handle on the side to put the foot rest down. How can I fix this without sending it to a furniture repair store. Everything seems fin except that. And I can tell it has something to do with the handle.
- What you explained sounds like a bent mechanism. Tip the chair over on it's back. Now underneath is a scissor action that folds up when you put the foot rest down. Pull the foot rest all the way out. Look for any bends between the the rivotted sections. They generally all should be straight. If you find a bent part straighten it. If it's bent it will be catching against each other. Should'nt be the handle because it's attached by a bar that operates the mechanism. Check to see if the chair sits level. The screws that hold the mechanism to the chair might have been pulled out of the chair itself. Look for screws on the floor. Or check to see nothings jammed up in the mechanism. I,m not trying to be a smart A but they are only made for one person. Get on the sofa next time. lol

- I'm sitting on a leather office desk chair that I purchased at Office Depot 10 years ago and have had absolutely no stability problems, breakage or durability problems with the plastic coasters or the the base to which they are attached. The secretary chair which is upholstered is over 15 years old has plastic feet and coasters and hasn't had any issues either. We are very hard on our office furniture and have found plastic to be easy to keep clean and just as durable as metal (which in our case rusted over time on a metal based and castored wingbacked office chair we once had).

- If you are really concerned about it, why not explain to your daughter that high chairs are for babies and she is a big girl now. Tell her that there is a little baby out there who needs it and go with your daughter to drop the high chair off at a thrift store. Or, Offer her an option at every meal. Tell her she is a big girl now, and ask her if she would like to sit at the table with all the other big people. If she says no, don't make a big deal about it, just do the same every time. Or, you could just wait until she outgrows it. She will eventually, especially after she starts school. Good luck!
- Q: The nitrogen gas in present in the chair cylinder. However what keep chair at mid position, between highest and lowest position? Is there a valve that prevents chair from coming up any further from mid position. Also if it at the lowest point that then gas is fully compressed. what prevents it from pushing upward as I'm seating. Thanks in advance
- The way a gas spring chair works is that the piston inside the cylinder contains a valve, which lets nitrogen gas pass from one side of the cylinder to the other (see the link below for a diagram). The compression is created because of the volume of the piston rod being introduced into the cylinder, but at all times the pressure on either side of the piston is the same. The lever on the underside of the seat opens the valve in the piston. If you sit on the chair but don't pull the lever, the gas in the piston cannot flow through the valve, so piston remains extended. When you pull that lever, the valve opens and allows gas to flow across the piston, so the piston is able to move down and the gas is compressed. When the chair is at half-height and the lever is released, the valve closes, preventing the piston from moving either way, because the pressures are equal on either side (the pressure in the cylinder is so great that the extra pressure added by sitting on the chair is tiny by comparison). When the chair is at its lowest, the compressed gas is all above the piston, holding it down. It's only when the valve is opened that gas can flow to the other side to raise it.
