Q: Hi i would like to ask what is the diference between the two versions of wiring the RJ 45 connector. when I was making my first networking cable, i used the wiring according to an image that only was using/connecting four wires into the connector. the cable works and works well. Now i found plenty of other images, all of them reccomending the full /eight wires/ connecting. Do I run my network on lower Mbits/sec? what are the other four wires used for? Thanks
In 10/100 Mbps wiring only 4 wires are used. 2 for sending data, 2 for receiving data. The other 4 are used for cancelling cross-talk and minimizing other problems associated with the physics of transmission. The wires are arranged in 4 pairs, with each pair twisted. It's the twisting that solves or reduces transmission problems. In Gigabit over copper (1000Mbps) all 8 wires are used, 4 for transmit and 4 for receive. The twisting of the wires is much tighter and the actual connectors on the ends have a smaller tolerance. You should also be aware that there are two major standards for wire arrangement in UTP data cabling - 568A and 568B. You will need to know what standard is used in your network for consistency's sake. Mixing 568A and 568B results in cross-over which may or may not be what you intended. Hope this helps.
Q: wiring for generator
Shut the main breaker so you are off the grid and plug the generator into your dryer plug to reverse power your panel. Shut off the big things at the fuse box, AC, hot water heater, etc.
Q: I am wiring a cd player in my truck is it necessary to get a wire harness that is made for the year make and model of my truck or can I just cut the factory terminals off and just connect the like colors?
While a wiring harness isn't strictly necessary, It's highly recommended. The wiring color code on an aftermarket head unit will match up properly with a vehicle-specific wiring harness. The wire colors of your vehicle wiring will NOT be the same as the wire colors on your aftermarket unit. You have to match the wires up according to function, not according to color.
Q: How to connect a 5 wire Harley LED tail light
Harley Tail Lights
Q: i know nothing about wire. thanks. :|
Solder wire has a lower melting point, allowing you to melt it onto something else. In it's wire form, it will also snap very easily. (not good for fastening things together). Mechanical wire (I'm assuming electrical wire), is designed to withstand high temperatures (and hence, electrical currents), and are usually be bent much more. It's also usually sheilded in rubber (e.g. electrical cords, computer cables, coxial (tv) cable, etc).
Q: From one website I withdraw thru bank wire its 50 dollar fee. What ranges are it for bank wire? Internationally from private person to business.
The bank wire fee varies depending on the individual policies of the bank. Some banks charge for wiring, or receiving. Others charge of international wires. Still others may waive wire fees if you have a special relationship with the bank, such as a Premier Customer, or a senior citizen, etc. Check with your bank.
Q: Quick question with hopefully an easy answer. I had a dimmer switch go bad on a light in a dining room. I bought a new switch and put it in. It was working fine, so I thought, then I noticed that when the dining room light is off, the dimmer works on everything else on the circuit, for example outside lights, hall lights, etc. I can dim all of those things when this switch certainly didn't do that before. Also, if the dining room light is on, all of the other things on the circuit I mentioned before do not work at all. I've obviously incorrectly wired the switch somehow, any thoughts on what I did incorrectly and how to fix?
I read this right after you posted it and for the life of me, can't figure this out. Maybe I'm tired. Maybe its the couple of drinks I have had tonight. Either way, it isn't making sense to me. However, I will tell you how to solve it. First of all, get a cheap muliti-tester. Check the voltage across a white and a black (the black could be a red or another color; any color except green, that's a ground) until you get a reading between 110-125V AC. Those are your power leads. Connect ALL the white leads together and cap them using a wire nut. Next, carefully grab the INSULATED part of the hot black lead and touch them in turn to the others. (There will be a small spark, but as long as you are only touching insulation, you will not get shocked. If you are nervous about this, use two pairs of insulated handle needle-nose pliers to grab the wires, but still, only grab the insulated part.) One should turn on the light in the DR and the other(s) should turn on the power elsewhere. Make a note of what is what. At that point, the wiring becomes simple. Attach the black hot lead to one of the lugs (or wires if that is what it has) of the dimmer switch AND to the black lead(s) that power other fixtures elsewhere. The black lead that you touched to the hot lead that turned on the DR light gets attached to the other side of the dimmer. That should solve your problem. Good luck. If you need additional help, email me.
Q: do you match positives and negatives or positives and positives when wiring a car stereo

Q: How do electric and other companies decide on strung wires in consideration of snowfall?
Snowfall is nothing...even birds on a wire add more weight than that. And like BillRussel said, the core is a steel wire for tensile strength that will handle the biggest force which is wind. Since electricity flows around outside a conductor better than going thru the core, it makes sense for them to surround the steel core with a lightweight , cheap, conductor like aluminum which only has to worry about conducting current and not with strength issues.
Q: I know the ground wire takes unused electricity to the ground but what is the purpose of the neutral wire?
The neutral returns unused electricity back to the source where as the ground provides a pathway for an electrical short to return back to the panel and then to an earth ground.
