- The wire comes down or up to a connection box. This is the place separating yours from theirs. Anything on your side of that is yours and you are responsible for maintaining it. Changing it is not difficult. You need some wire, fittings and a tool to attach the fittings. The peiople who sell that should be glad to explain how to do what. Most of the connection boxes now use a plug-in connector so it becomes a piece of cake. If the wire toward the street from there is the problem, just report it and a staticky phone. That is the phone company's problem.

- Q: What are the effects on an amp when you use power/ground wires that are too small? I bought a set of 8 guage wires off of OKorder, and it stated they can handle up to 1000W. I'm using a Kenwood KAC-9103D amp, 500x1 @ 4ohms, 900x1 @ 2ohms, and 900+ x1 @1ohm (1800 W max power). My subs are Kicker VR8, dual voice coil, 4ohms, wired in parallel. Was it a mistake to go with 8 guage wiring? Should have I gone with 4 guage?
- Using smaller wires will cause your wire to heat . As the wire gets hot conductivity decreases giving less current to the amp. It seems like you are spending some money for the equipment i would use a 4 gauge to protect your investment. I have seen people car catching fire because of bad audio wiring

- It's called stranded wire. A solid wire is rigid and will break after only a few times bent. Solid wire is cheaper and is used in house wiring where it does not need to flex. But even automotive wiring uses stranded wire because otherwise the vibration would cause breaks in no time. You may get some answers about high frequency skin effects but few people actually understand it and most of the information about it is wrong.

You are looking for donations of end-of-life cables to make the baskets, I recommend trying some of the electronics recycling organizations that are becoming more and more prevelent. Electronics put tons of bad chemicals in our environment when they are thrown away, so more and more efforts are coming up to find ways to recycle them rather than throw them in a landfill. Look up End Of Life Electronics for some of the efforts out there.
- Q: Just bought a new amp for my truck. The speaker outputs needs to be indiviually wired to the door speakers. Do you splice into the speaker wire or the trucks harness?
- ideally you want to wire directly from the amp to the door speakers with new speaker wire but doing this properly requires removing some of the trimming and passing the new wires throughout the car. you can also take the easier route and pass the wires from your amp up under the steering wheel behind the center console and splice them into the existing wires going to the door speakers. as long as the wattage isn't very high the latter shouldn't be a problem. however, if it were up to me i would use new wires and pass them throughout the car, removing the trimmings, etc. this can be somewhat of a pain to do if you have never done it before though.
