- Q: What does insulated wire do?How does it differ from regular wire used on breadboards?
- Insulated wire is .... insulated. That is, it has a layer of plastic or rubber around it so that there is no exposed metal (except at the ends) and thus minimizes the shock hazard, and also helps prevent accidental shorts between wires. Non insulated wire is bare, it has no insulation, it's just a thin copper bar. You can use either on breadboards, so I don't know what you mean by regular wire. .
- Q: 1994 crown vic but it seemed like only 3 or 4 wires matched up exactly and this one wire was way to short so i had to route it the best way i could the guy said it was the right set of wires but the car runs way better then it did just wondering should i change couple of wires around to make it fit or just leave it what does crossing the wires mean
- doad ya evehh hard a' punctuation? GETCHA SUMM
- Q: Both wires are green but unsure if it is the top or bottom wire.
- get a test light and check them but make sure your not pushing the brake pedal down when testing
- Q: Where is itI have a 1996 Honda Accord with a pioneer deh-p6400 head unit. I tried to install an amp. Held the ground to soem metal and tried to get it to turn on. I tried the power antennae wire and it didnt' work. Nothing seems to work. I dont want to splice any wires or anything
- The remote wire is the blue/white wire. The power antenna wire(blue) only has current when the tuner is being used therefore your amp would only work with the radio and nothing else.
- Q: How to connect a 5 wire Harley LED tail light
- Harley Tail Lights
- Q: I have some salvaged wire from a computer power supply and would like to know it's break-down voltage rating. Most hookup wire is rated at 600 volts but unfortunately, all computer stuff is now made in China. The repair job of a vintage piece of equipment requires wire that can withstand 300 VAC.
- i couldn't tell you without knowing the amperage in those 300vac because amps are what generate the heat but if you wanna know if its high quality or not strip the psu wire and if its silver its good wire if its copper..... use at your own risk
- Q: I need to wire a single 120v outlet from the 240v volt wire I use on my compressor. Im installing a 120v electric automatic drain valve on my large shop air compressor. The compressor is wired up with SJ00W 10-AWG, 4-wire power cable (red, green, black white wires). and is rated at 240v @ 15-amp(compressor not wire). The drain valve uses a normal house hold current wiring config. (black, white and open copper)The 240v power supply is the only supply I have near by, (two of them actually) Or I would just wire the automatic valve off an outlet and call it a day. So How do I wire a 120v 3-wire set up from the 240v 4-wire supply? Thanks
- I swear these people on here are crazy sometimes. People he was never asking how to wire e recepticale. He is asking how to take a four wire 240vac connection to a 3 wire 120vac connection. He is wiring it to a auto drain valve that has a termination box on the side of it or a pecker head as we used to call it. Here is how to do it. Go to your breaker panel determine wick breaker is feeding the cable/wire your wanting to use. Once you have done this remove the breaker panel cover. Then remove the wires from the breaker. These should be the red and black wires. Now remove the two pole breaker and replace it with two single pole breakers rated at 20 amps. Using black electrical tape, tape the end of the red wire up and secure it inside the breaker panel so that it is out of the way. Now land the black wire to one of the breakers you just installed. The second breaker will not have anything wired to it, it is a spare to be used later but must be installed to cover the hole left by the two pole breaker. Label you panel to indicate the auto drain valve and the spare breaker you have just installed. Now at the auto drain valve the black will be the hot/L1 white is neutral/L2 and the green is ground. The red can be taped up and secured out of the way or cut back and taped up if you don't think you will need it in the future.
- Q: Can your use the power wire that they sell at home depo to do the big three upgrade or is it better to just get wire from a car audio store?
- You can use any wire as long as it is the proper gauge required for the job you are doing! I am sure it will say in your installation instructions on which gauge of wire they reccomend for proper installation of the equipment you are installing
- Q: My starter I replaced has 3 wires, two red and one black. Where does each wire go? Pictures would be very helpful if possible
- The First red wire goes to the solenoid on the fender well right by the battery. the second red wire goes from the solenoid to the starter on the one main post there. the black wire goes from the engine block to the battery on the negative side. All connections must be tight but not not crushing on the battery
- Q: i have an amp (sony xm 2002gtr) that says it requires 4 gauge wire..but they cost $100+ and i have plenty of 8 gauge wires. can i use two 8 gauge wires as a substitute for one 4 gauge wire?and also, i have my capacitor grounded to unpainted metal of my car AND the ground port of my amp..is that incorrect?
- Two 8-gauge wires combined are equal to a 5-gauge wire, but that should be close enough for that amp. Make sure each wire has its own fuse near the battery; 40-amp fuses would be a good choice. If you capacitor is connected to ground, and your amp is grounded, then you don't really need a wire between the capacitor's ground terminal and the amp's ground terminal. It doesn't hurt anything, though. If the only ground wire at the amp is the one that runs to the capacitor, then you're better off connecting the amp ground directly to chassis metal.
