Q: The sink in my bathroom is backing up. Does anybody have any trick to unclog it. I'm not sure about using drain'o. I heard that just makes it worse.: Sometimes Drano will work. It depends on what's in the drain. It may require taking the drain apart. Under the sink is a U shaped pipe. That is probably where the plug is. With luck you have a drain plug at the bottom of this U. If so just remove that and fish around inside with a wire. If you don't have a drain plug there (most likely not) unscrew the first big nut around the pipe you come to at either end of the U. You will probably need a pair of channel locks or a pipe wrench for this. Wiggle the U shaped pipe around and take it loose. Pour water and whatever the plug is into a bucket and replace pipe. Put pan under drain before loosening bolts because you will have a water leak. Should drain sink as much as possible before you loosen the pipe. You may need to replace pipe washers and wrap threads with plumbers tape before reinstalling. Both washers and tape won't cost more than $5.00.

THE BATHROOM SINK!): If you have a P trap on your sink they should not be able to come through. A P trap is an S shaped pipe beneath your sinks drain it should always have water in it. If you do not have a P trap or there is no water in it then you should start with that. If your ants are capable of scuba diving their way up through this water barrier then I would recommend a back water valve this is a small plastic box with a 1 way flapper type door inside that lets anything from the sink push open the flapper and pass through but closes when anything tries to go up from below The back water valve is glued onto your plastic drain pipe after the P trap, you will have to cut the pipe for this and glue in the new piece.

Q: We just bought a mobile home and upon moving in we noticed that there is a burn on the bathroom sink, we did a tour of the place a few weeks ago the previous tenants were still living there so it had to of happened in the last couple of weeks it looks as if they left a straightener or curling iron on it and it burnt the sink to the point of the plastic melting and now it looks awful! I really don't want to replace the whole sink but I'm afraid that may be the only way to deal with it, it wouldn't be such a big deal if it was in our master bedroom but this is in the secondary bathroom where visitors will be going to the bathroom, anyone know of any kind of filler we can use to fill in those holes and dips so it won't look so bad, then maybe I can paint it and you will barely be able to notice?????: There is no way to fix such damage. Replace the sink. In future ALWAYS put a condition in the written Offer To Purchase that allows a 'last minute' inspection (after occupants are out - the day before the deal closes). Real Estate Agents HATE that kind of conditional offer and will move heave and earth to get you to drop it. Sellers hate it too. Stick to your guns and insist upon it. If you'd had that condition in your offer for this purchase, you'd have discovered that burn and been able to cancel the deal if you wanted to do so. You'll also be in a position to demand that the sink be replaced immediately ( DO NOT accept a 'promise to do so' later. ) or to demand a healthy discount on the price. I've had RE Agents tell me that they can't put a condition like that in the Offer To Purchase. That's pure BS. You can put any condition you darned well want into an offer. Obviously, if it's a ridiculous condition, your Offer will be rejected, but a final inspection is perfectly reasonable if the place is occupied when you first inspect it.

Q: I have a new vanity and the last few weeks when i run the water a terrible smell comes from the sink opening after a few minutes it goes away. Any ideas -THANKS.: have you been shitting in the sink that can be whats causing it!
