- Q:what is the difference between refractory cement and furnace cement?
- Furnace cement is a finer grit meant for patching up seams to make them air tight. Refractory cement is for the cast concrete structures themselves.
- Q:im retieling my bathroom floor some of the old cement board is coming but not all of it .Can i just put a layer of thin set over it and then build up where i did get the cement board off?
- Gotta damage it up, if you need it out. Why no longer duvet over it? In case you are dead set on elimination start on the top of wall wreck by means of to the wire. Begin slicing the wire and pulling it free from the wall.
- Q:why must you use cement board under ceramic tile?
- It is not necessary to use cement board under ceramic tile unless the area is gong to be exposed to water or moisture frequently. The cement board creates a water barrier to protect the wood framing of the house. Ceramic tile can be successfully laid over wood, plastic, fiberglass or any other surface that is flat and solid. That means no give or flexing when you walk on it or sitting things on it. A wooden floor normally will require extra bracing to make it solid and not flex from walking on it or furniture weight.
- Q:The cement i found is in 25kg bags (?5.98 each). The floor i think will be 4 inches thick??? or any suggestions please.
- one bag will give you 1 sq foot, just make a wood floor [cheaper]
- Q:The wind knocked over part of our wood fence. Two of the wood posts that were cemented into the dirt were uprooted. I figure the best way to fix the fence would be to use new posts (or bust off the old cement) and bury them in the ground with fresh cement. I'm feeling lazy and wonder if I do as good of a job just burying the old posts with the old cement back into the ground. Will it hold? Maybe this is a no-brainer for some folks - useful comments appreciated.
- Plywood will rot. Build a form out of 2 X 4's or 2 X 6's around the whole thing and then put an inch cap over the whole thing. Then this in turn will fill the hole and you will have a nice flat surface. If you want to patch it you have to take the old concrete out that is lose all the way to the subgrade then pour a patch but doing this you will still allow a small seam to allow moistuire to get in if it freezes it will pop it up. So the best thing to do is to add a lip of one inch above the whole thing. You will also have to break lose any loose concret e and remove before doing the whole lip. Also put a broom finish on top and this will allow moisture to run off of the concrete.
- Q:why is cement still very high when everything is going down?
- Because the cement cartel is a member of the Phil governing bodies .
- Q:The walls behind my tub have rotted out, and I want to put it tile. I hear that you have to use cement backerboard because greenboard will just rot behind the tile. But all the stores around here don't sell it. I don't get it. Is this really what I need?
- Obviously the 1st poster isn t a tiler. For the best protection ( after you fix the rotting if need be) use a green board and then a vapor barrier and then cement board 1/2 thick. Grout IS NOTTT water proof , its a cement product and will draw moisture thru to the underlaying board and rot plaster board or green board ventually. Look around you ll find the cement board somewhere . You ll need a special trim to cover but thats the best way. Sometimes you can t get the trim so you ll have to recess the barrier and board and then use a surface trim. Any question e mail me thru me avatar and check my qualifications there GL
- Q:I just bought this model and it's my first one doing it lol I was just curious that if after I painted one part and went to glue another onto the painted plastic, will it stick? Or will something else bad happen, or will it be perfectly fine? I just don't want to ruin it =( The glue I have is Testors Cement for Plastic Models and the paint is also Testors Enamel paint.
- The cement will probably dissolve the paint and you'll get a messy joint. Scrape the paint away at the places you want to glue.
- Q:and it was lumpy can i still use it or will the lumps interfer with the leveling process, ( and how liquidy should i make it) i experimented with a little amount and it just didn't look right so i threw it out.. it's the firt time i'm using a self leveling product
- I don't know a lot about that, but it seems that you may need it quite thin, so it will run as needed to self level. apply the leveling cement in shallow layers, (less then 1/2 inch each) or it will when drying as it has so much water in it. To get the lumps out try some thing on a power drill to mix it faster. They sell small beaters to use on a power drill for that.
- Q:im trying to attach hardy board to a cement floor it goes in so far and stops do i need a bigger drill im using a 3/8 drill and tapcon screws
- You don't. The only reason you would install hardy board over cement is to prevent the cracks in the cement from emerging in tile. And then you would install it as a floating floor, and then only if the floor is flat. Lay the boards so they butt, staple down cheap chicken wire for a temporary hold, and put a skim coat of cheap thin set over the wire. Then the normal coat of your choice of thin set over that when installing tile. This way most movement in the slab is unlikely to affect the tile. If you cement down the hardy board, it will move with the cement as the slab is stiffer than the hardy board. Hardy board adds nothing of value to cement fastened that way.
