Q:Eucalyptus leaves were left on the front porch. It rained. Evidently, they are treated with some type of coloring agent and it dripped from the leaves to the porch cement leaving a bluish stain. The tint washed right off my hands, but not so with the cement which absorbed it like an easter egg.I've tried soap and water -- no good.Krud Kleaner with a wire brush -- faded it a little.OxyClean with a toothbrush -- faded it a little more.But, the stain is still there and very visible. Is there anything that will get it out? Bleach, maybe...vinegar ???Help!Thanks.: Concrete is porous, so the stain has gotten into the concrete. The first thing I would do is pressure wash the stain. This will probably remove 90% of the stain. If you have any stain left after that, treat with bleach, covering the bleached concrete with a plastic bag and weights to help delay evaporation, followed by a final pressure wash.

Q:I know the cement board is supposed to be cut 1/4 inch above the rub flange, but what if you install the cement board and there is a big enough gap between the tub and the wall that when installing tile, the tile still would not be even with the tub flange let alone go over the flange? After installing the cement board, there is still about a .5 inch gap from the wall to the tub. I assume you can install tile and then caulk along the small gap from the tub flange to the tile. But let me know your thoughts.: Sounds like you should have furred out you framing before installing the cement board. Short of removing the cement board you could add another layer.

I know tensile strength of cement briquettes ( used to test the strength of cement in to know if satisfactory for gripping on to rebar) , but sorry never heard tensile of cement motors. Why cant the value of strength of a cement cube be used instead?: Because cement is only an ingredient of mortar. What they put between bricks is mortar, not cement. It would be like assessing the value of chocolate milk by only assessing the value of the chocolate.

Q:do i have to put any thing down on the painted floor FIRST?: if the floor is concrete then apply thin set ( this is not cement applied thinly) with a notched trowel. back butter the tile and drop in in. you can't install ceramic or stone directly to wood or plywood. even painted. you could use wonder board or hardie backer applied first, but I've had this stuff fail before. old skool way for wood get expanded steel mesh ( wire lath ) and put it on floor and nail or staple it to the floor. IT IS SHARP so wear gloves. you don't need to get it real neat and a gap uf a few inches is ok as long as that's not a grout line. then apply a good quality polymerized setting mortar, right hrough the mesh, such as versabond. you don't need additives just water.. you could also use flexbond if you want a little extra quality. when the floor sets up you have a very durable monolithic piece on the floor. I have been doing floors this way for years and I have never had a failure. I've even used it in applications where the deflection of the floor over it's span has exceeded the amount allowed. no failure and that's my ex, you gotta know that she would let me know. been 10 years if you don't get it right or skip the underlay or use mastic the floor will fail.. as noted by the grout coming out. the only cure for this is rip it out and start over.

Q:is there any alternative material for cement?: i don't know about that but here in egypt there is tafla bricks mainly dry clay, with some hay and its used since the pharaohs, but now its only used in countries .. and the pharaohs didn't use cement of course so there is a very natural alternative for cement which is wet clay from the nile probably mixed with cow poo ...

Q:The cement sealant I will be using is a LastiSeal brand. It is waterproof, non-toxic, and eco friendly. There is a15 year warranty on it, They say it can be used with koi ponds. So I think it will work for my newly laid cement pond wall. Just one thing. I have to wait 4 weeks for new cement to cure before applying the sealer to the cement. As long as the water is not touching the wall, can I keep water in the pond during these 4 weeks if need be?: Cement pond is what the Beverly Hillbillies called their swimming pool. :) Concrete/mortar cures in the air or underwater so it wouldn't matter if water was in the pond or if it touched the wall. However, the coating you want to use may require it to be dry. Also, the strength of the concrete is related to how well it is cured, so don't load it up w/water too soon.
