- I am assuming you are referring to the weight of a quantity of cement mixed with the requisite water for molding (and not hardened) vs that same cement once it is in a fully cured (hardened) condition. When cement hardens (cures) it does not lose all the water which was originally mixed with it, some of the water remains permanently incorporated into the cement. This is because the active ingredient in dry (as purchased) cement is primarily anhydrous calcium silicate*. When the cement cures and dries out it is in the form of a hydrate of calcium silicate and this portion of the water stays in the cement forever. When we mix cement with enough water so it can be poured or molded, we are adding more than the exact amount of water necessary for the hydration process, so, some, but not all, the water evaporates and thus, the wet cement would be heavier than hardened cement. *Yes, there is sand, gravel, etc but these are just fillers, they just go along for the ride, they do not under go any chemical change during the process.

- Umm.... wet cement isn't hot. So they just put their hands in it to make the shape take it out. When it's sunny hot out, yes, cement is hot to the touch can burn you, but wet cement isn't hot enough to burn someone. People have been burned by PROLONGED exposure to wet cement. Celebs others that put their hand/foot prints in cement won't get burned b/c they're only touching it for a few minutes. **YES they wash their hands! Wouldn't you? I'd hate to have cement dried on my hands. So yeah, after they're done putting their prints in cement, they wash their hands.**

- I agree......cement blocks are an unwise choice. Go to a home supply place and get some large stones...however many you need. Set them almost touching the firewood!!......and then start a trial-run fire. Keep it burning for a good couple hours at least. The stones being so close to the fire will get really hot, which is what you want. If any decide to 'blow', they should do it now, and...you don't want to be sitting around the fire either, you just want to keep an eye on it from afar while you're doing other things. Once you're done with this, you should be able to set them in place at the outer perimeter of the pit and be ready for regular use. You see....stones and rocks can contain water. When they get hot the water will expand to boil.....so what you have is like a low-grade hand grenade, and they can crack very sharply and loudly sometimes. Often chips and pieces fly off and they can and have blinded people, and hit people in the face, etc. It's just a dangerous situation that can, and should be avoided. Cement blocks have loads of water in them. It's not a matter of IF they shatter or break.....it's when. Do it right....take the time.....so you can have a safe place to hang around a fire.

- Cement is composed of five types of minerals such as limestone, shale, silica, pyrite and gypsum. Limestone were grounded from the impact crusher (mostly 1 cubic meter size) to as big as half the coconut shell, then it is will again passed through a jaw crusher from this size, it will be like 3/4. After this the lime stone will pass through the ball mill(a rotating drum consist of different sizes of ball metals) with other ingredients. The product will be like a face powder. (For Semi-dry process) This face powder like shall go through a tilted rotating pan, where a tricle of water will make a sphere size as size as a marble. This sphere size mixture shall pass through the calcining stage(this is removing the moisture in it). After the calcining stage, it will pass through a rotating kiln at a temperature of about 2,700 degrees celcius. This temperature is enough to burn and turn red your mixture(similar to volcanic lava). The product of these is like charcoal and what you call clinker. It will pass through the last process to make it cement. Another ball mill(mostly this is called the finished mill) and with the same texture(face powder like) and mixed this with gypsum then you got portland cement. Now are you ready to turn the soil into like a volcanic lava?

- If the cement was poured over a wooden frame the the wood could be squeaking. First thing to do is isolate what is squeaking, the rail or the stairs. Try standing still and shaking the rail to see if it squeaks, if not you then can figure out what steps cause the squeak. Once isolated you can take a closer look.

- You would be better off to buy some new stuff, but there is a remote possibility you can make it glue again by mixing some acetone in to it, but, but , but the acetone is more expensive than buying new pvc cement. So the moral of this story is; buy new pvc cement and get used to the idea that the stuff will dry out with some regularity. Actually eventually it all dries out even if you are careful to close the can very tight. It is a universal truth in life. I wish I had $5.00 for every can of that stuff that has gotten hard on me.

- No, it can't. Adding water to portland cement initiates a complex series of reactions that irreversibly changes the nature of the dry ingredients. If you remove the water at some point by drying or firing the concrete, it will not give back the original cement dry ingredients. Just to be clear, concrete is cement added to an aggregate. The aggregate is often crushed stone or gravel, but it can be other substances. The stone normally does not chemically react with the cement, so I suppose you could crush the concrete to physically separate the cement from the rocks. But then you would have cement chunks that cannot be poured like new cement and are weakened by the crushing, not very useful.
