Q:Hi. I can ollie, shovit, pop shovit, powerslide, but can't land a kickflip on cement. I can land on grass like every single time and for some reason, i can all ready varial flip sometimes on the grass too. I don't know y i can't land it on cement. Maybe it's because i always land with both feet in the middle of the board every time i do the kickflip on the grass, so please tell me how i can on the bolts. Also put how i can land it on cement PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THNX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
practice on cement from now on. kickflips are one of those tricks where you have to practice them ALOT and have to figure it out by yourself mostly. but if you practice them on the ground from now on you will eventually get it.
Q:I have a science project I have to do and was wondering if you had any ideas. Thanks!
Should be on google, but .... Think of cement* as the flour in a cake, and then add ingredients sand, gravel, and water, mix, and you have concrete. The reactions started by adding water cause the concrete mixture to get warm (as compared to itself), dry out, and harden into a cohesive block of material. *it is a powdered rock of some kind, maybe limestone, idk
Q:It is cheaper to build a cement house than wood?
Cement is not going to be cheaper. You will still have to put some kind of insulation (concrete will not be able to provide adequate insulation on it own) and then interior walls and finishes. Concrete itself is not cheaper as a material than wood, plus finding the skilled people to build complete walls and floors from concrete might be a challenge (depending on where you live). If that is not enough, think about laying electric and plumbing through the concrete. Trust me, they invented the stick-built (wooden frame) houses exactly for the reason of the lower construction costs, among other reasons.
Q:I have leaky rod holes in my basement. I just bought hydraulic cement (King Plug-Tite) and I just want to know what I have to do to patch the hole. Do I need to fill the entire gap (depth) ? The label says to force the product into the opening with the palm of the hand. Can I do that a couple of time (stuff the product in the hole) before it sets?
Hydraulic cement expands, thats why it says to push it in with your palm. This gives it a firm, even pressure. You have a little time before it sets.
Q:It is one of those hollow cement/crushed stone stairs outdoors. The top step has a crack and small hole. ( Because of such changes in warm to cold weather this must have happened) There must be a fairly easy , non-expensive way to try and repair this step before it caves in
I use 3 parts of Portland cement to 2 parts of sand for such a repair. First take and clean out the area of all loose materials and then coat it with a coat of Latex paint. Then mix the Portland and sand dry, then add to about a gallon of the mixture a 1/4 cut of that latex paint, add water to suit giving a consistency of tooth paste. Fill the hole, let it sit for at least 2 hours, then scrape it neatly with a trowel, leveling it. This bond with the latex is about the best around, better that any sort of stuff sold at Lowes or Home Depot. Our local hardware store has Portland cement in 10# bags so you dont have to go out and get a 100# bag. Buy your bagged sand right there too. DO NOT use the premix stuff ( sand and cement) in a bag, simply not enough Portland in that stuff and a sure way to have a failure of this patch.
Q:I used it to patch cracks and divots in old concrete driveway and it is not cement color but a dark gray. Didn't see that coming! Is there anything I can do to lighten it?
In days gone by we could purchase white portland cement and it made a bright white slab.Today batch design has changed reducing the portland and replacing it with fly ashe.It is in some ways an inferior product but meets strength requirements.
Q:Is it better to sink fence posts in cement or geavel?I keep getting mixed answers on this. To me filling the hole with gravel will not be as sturdy as cementing the posts in. Which is better in the long run????
Concrete is best for this job. Concrete is the base material for all construction. Gravel can shift in time and the fence posts will no longer be plumb and level.
Q:I've just finished putting the stones onto the liner on my fishpond and a trowel full of cement fell in! When will it be safe to put fish in or will I have to change the water now? I was planning on planting it up first anyhow and letting the plants get established.
Cement contains large amounts of calcium and magnesium, which act as alkaline buffers when dissolved into water, like a pond. Because of this, you're likely to see your pH skyrocket for quite some time. If there's any way you can get the cement out of the water, that would be best. If not, you're gonna be dealing with an abnormally high pH for some time, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as Goldfish and Koi will do just fine under such conditions. Regardless, I'd try to flush out as much of the water as possible before getting any fish.
Q:So not too long ago I got a permanent retainer glued to the top of my teeth. My sister told me that her permanent retainer once fell off and it got me paranoid. I just go it on so the cement is relatively fresh but I rub the glue with my tongue and now I have a question... How strong is the cement? Can I eat and drink whatever or will certain foods and drinks ruin and wear the glue away? Should I brush and floss there gentler as to not wear the glue away? I hear all these stories of where the glue sometimes falls off in little chunks or something and they have to get their retainer re-glued on and so I ask how long will the glue last on my teeth before it starts to fade? Is the cement/glue strong enough to last awhile? Etc.
Whether or not it comes off is dependent on two things, really: 1: you not eating dumb things, like gum or air heads, etc. and 2: your bite. Some just do. The glue will stay as long as the bond took. Some may chip off from your bite, but there's not a lot you can do aside from being careful to stay away from foods that you are not supposed to eat. The glue can last years and years. It's the same stuff we use to cement crowns and it lasts decades. But adults don't do the same dumb stuff with their mouths that kids do.
Q:i have been having problems with my mouth ever since i went to this dentist he is using a glue or something that gives me a sore throat only on the side that the glue is on i thought i was losing my mind but i just have a feeling it isn't working with my body i also have heart burn all the time
Modern dentists usually use methal arcylate cement. Allergies to arcylates are extremely rare, but rare does not mean non-existent. So it is possible that you are indeed allergic to the cement. An allergist physician can probably test you to see if that is your problem. In the old days, before arcyclates, dentists sometimes used zinc phosphate as a cement. You might talk to your dentist to see if he can get that to use on you. (It might help if your dentist is older. I suspect many recent graduates have never even heard of alternatives to arcylate cement.) If that doesn't work, check in your area to see if there are any dentists who hold out as being natural, homeopathic, or similar terms. They may offer alternative treatments and alternative cementing compounds.
