- Q: I recently moved into my first apartment and its pretty nice except for the carpet in the living room. Its a kight green color and it's just full if stains. I would love to just put a new carpet in but thats not really practical because I'm just renting the place. It waould cost stanley steamers about $100 to clean it but this carpet is really old and stained. Would it even be worth that? I'm afraid I'm gonna spend the money and it's still gonna look gross
- Make sure you take before pictures! that way when you move out you wont get blamed for the stains. Sears will clean 2 rooms for $69. You could buy a green machine handheld cleaner for that price too. Most grocery stores have the rental steam cleaners for less. If you go for the professional company then they have to get it clean or they wont make you pay.
- Q: I am trying to be as 'green' as possible while decorating my house. In addition, I love the look of textured, natural stuff. I looked at the sisal and bamboo rugs, but with small children on the floor all the time - they just are too rough. Is there anything else out there?

- Q: I have a white berber carpet in my room, and it has these gross grayish areas that are probably from dirt and what not . Also, my nauseous doggy sleeps on my bed and I have his various, dried throw up stains in it too. I've tried orange Goo Gone on everything , and it didnt work . I would like something that's pretty cheap that I could buy at like a local Walmart/Target, deep cleaning , pet safe , works on berber carpet , and isent a ton of hastle. I mean I don't mind getting on my hands and knees working stuff in , but nothing too extreme. I just want my carpet clean!!I don't want to have to rent a carpet cleaner , so I'm curious . What store bought carpet cleaners have worked for you? And do you think those will work for my carpet ? Thank you so much! (:

- Go to the nearest Home depot - they'll sell you carpeting and installation - which includes removing and replacing the old carpet and padding - for a set fee - usually about 150.00 and you choose your own new carpeting various grades and prices starting at 11.75 per square yard up to 33.00 per yard (1000 sq feet equals - 27.7 sq. yards) and put a 10% down payment on the total job. Remember that anything that you install like permanent carpeting must stay when you vacate the apartment. Unless you plan to stay for a really long time (maybe 15 years - the average life of a carpet) this may not be a great idea! These jobs take usually just one day!

- It seems like braided rugs are pretty intuitive -- just braid and sew, and use your imagination. If you are afraid of goofing up, you could try doing coasters or placemats first. I don't think you need a class, but sometimes it's nice to do it with other people.

- Getting hair dye out of carpet is tough - and if you're to have much luck it's best if you can get at the stain immediately. Here's what to do: Step 1 Blot the stain immediately with a clean, white cloth. Step 2 Mix a solution of 1/4 tsp. liquid hand-dishwashing soap and 1 cup lukewarm water. Step 3 Blot stain with soap solution, using a clean, white cloth. Blot from the outside of the stain, working inward. Step 4 Let sit a few minutes. Step 5 Mix a solution of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts lukewarm water. Step 6 Dab stain with vinegar solution, again working from the outside in. Step 7 Once the stain has disappeared, flush the area with cold water and blot dry with a clean, white cloth.

- Holes in the wall are unacceptable although some scratches on the lower walls and baseboard are to be expected. If you have a stain master carpet it is guaranteed. Check the paperwork that came with it. For the prices they charge they should fix everything.
