Q: I have a 99 pontiac sunfire breeze and there is a light that is coming on in the dash saying ETS off. I can not find it in the book and the people at the auto store dont know what it means either. Could anyone help me on this?
It is the traction control system. Assuming that you cannot just hit the button and turn it off (the left side of the floor shifter) It normally is tripped because of a bad hub bearing or ABS wheel speed sensor. I have seen the ets light come on due to turning sharp on a slippery surface (ie mud or gravel) when an actual problem doesn't exist. Have Auto Zone or Advance pull your computer codes for you and then clear the ETS light. IF it comes back on, you have a sensor bad, if not, it may have tripped due to wheel spin and it's nothing to worry about. PS, the guy above me doesn't have a CLUE. Although a Sunfire might not be the best American car made, there are plenty of American cars that are MUCH better than ANY underpowered, uncomfortable, jap crap that has timing belts to be replaced, bad cv joints, weak automatic transmissions, and HIGH repair bills. If you HAVE to go Japanese, buy Nissan!
Q: I think there‘s something wrong with my fuel system but I want to be sure because if if not,I‘m out $100 for the test. There is a recall on the fuel system. Here‘s what it‘s doing: I drive a lot of h-way time.About 2-3 months ago I started hearing a loud humming noise coming from the engine.I‘m just driving along with cruise control on even and just out of the blue the engine will begin humming. It‘ll start soft, get louder and then stay at one pitch. When I take my foot off the gas,it dies down and then everything sounds normal, but once I apply the gas, it doesn‘t take but a few minutes and it comes back.I had new spark plugs installed around the time my engine light started staying on for longer periods because it does go off but it doesn‘t stay off for more than one trip,I‘ve always gotten 30mpg and still am.I can‘t afford to be out $100.Does anyone know if this is fuel system related, or not?I‘ve heard Ford‘s are known for bad fuel pumps, is this true?
THE VERY FIRST THING YOU DO IS FREE. Take it to an Advanced Auto Parts store and have them check the trouble code. They will do this for free and it takes less than 5 minutes. This will tell you if that the ECM has detected a problem and it will tell you what it is. If its something to do with your fuel system (i.e. lean mixture) than start with a new fuel filter. They are $7 and take less time to replace than checking the trouble code. The problem also could be an air intake leak.
Q: My car, a Mercedes 1996 C280 has a check engine light on. I‘ve looked at the common problems first like checking the oil, but everything seems fine. I want to find out what the problem out myself without having to spend the money. I heard that I can input a code and the number of times the dashboard flashes is the answer, but I have no idea how to do anything like that.
Try Auto Zone first. All car from 1996 on have OBD II circuitry. Probably, it's an O2 sensor, but the scanning should show this. For the DIY in you, go to a library that carries the ALLDATA data base. Everything you will ever need to know about this car is right there, including how to scan the car for trouble codes, and re-call issues. DO NOT IGNORE this, becuase you can ruin your expensive catalytic converter and exhaust system. Is this car Motronic or CIS-E III?? Your owner's manual should tell you.
Q: Last Week while I was driving I noticed a small batterie shaped light come on. I looked at the gauge that shows your batterie voltage and it showed normal. Truck acted fine (1997 Ford F250 7.3 diesel), and shortly after (mabe 5 miles or so) the light when off.Last night when I started it I noticed that light (along with the others that come on when you crank the engine), stayed on. I moved the truck about 200‘ and shut it off (light was still on). This morning when I cranked my truck the light stayed on. Then, a few miles down the road, it went off. It came back on about 30 miles later, and stayed on till I got to work (another 8 miles or so). Truck is running fine.I am guessing it is not my regular batterie (since the gauge shows normal), so is it the batterie for the glow plugs? So, I got out my manual and it says if that light comes on, to have the charging system checked? How? Who does that (preferably besides the dealer)? What kind of out of cost am I looking at? Any help?
Could be the alternator or the battery. It is most probably the alternator. You could take it to an auto parts store. They can test it while its running. You will have to find someone reputable to do the work if it need replacing.
Q: I have an 2005 road star. I found a pair of 7 auto headlights for 1/2 the price of one motorcycle headlight. it should fit the bucket but what about the 12 volt system?
Well you just have to make sure of the Hi-Lo wiring, but the bike is 12 volt right! the car is 12 Volt. Shouldn't be a problem. And if they dont Quite fit, I always found duct tape works great Remember: spare the duct tape spoil the job.
Q: I just got a 99 toyota corolla from my sister in Massachusetts. The check engine light is on and has been one for awhile. She took it to two auto shops who said it's the light malfunctioning and the engine is fine. It passed it's inspection in Massachusetts but today when I went to get it inspected in NY they claim it's an automatic fail and that something is in fact wrong with the engine. Is it an automatic fail in NY just because that light is on? He says it's gonna cost me 350 dollars to fix what's wrong but I don't think I trust him. Thanks in advance!
In NY It is an Automatic Failure with a check engine light on. actually If the guy looked at the car first and sent you away he did you a favor. He,by reg's and Law should have took the car in for the inspection saw It and run the complete Inspection and gave you the rejection notice. But yes either or, It does fail. Sorry.Get It fixed and the retest. But for your Information when you fix something on a OBD11 system, the car must be driven for 60 miles to reset and get a good inspection. If you don't trust the guy go somewhere else. It will be better for you all around. We have Plenty of Inspection stations in NY City or State.
Q: I would like to find a remote control that goes on my Key chain. So I can turn my accent lights on and off from a distance like 30' or so. kinda like wireless locks on most doors now days? also do they make a modulator for these kind of lights that will make the lights flash in a sequence? if so where can I get them?
. I think it might be illegal to tamper with your lights, but maybe that's only in Canada. But I imagine any shop that can install a car alarm could help you. ...for maybe $400. NAPA or some auto parts store might have some module you can just solder in but it's unlikely.
Q: It goes on and stays on. It has not been hit or had any kind of impact. I have read that some cars flash a code and it does not. It is just the airbag light that goes on. Nothing else. I need to take it for inspection shortly and know it will not pass because of that light. I really do not have any extra money to spend. It doesn‘t flash. It goes on and stays on. It has been happening for almost two weeks now. I have read it can cost up to $2000 and I do not have that. Anyway I can find out the issue without it costing a lot? Thanks.
The airbag light means that there is a fault in the airbag system. A code will be stored in the computer which will tell you where the fault is. Many auto parts chains will do a computer scan for free, telling you what the code is. Most likely the clock spring in the steering wheel has gone bad, and the computer is reading the drivers air bag as not responding. The clock spring allows the electrical connections to the steering wheel air bag, while the wheel turns
Q: Went and got a stereo installed everything worked fine b4 now my clock dome light and trunk lights do not work I drove my car to my mechanic and they checked my fuses they are fine they said to go back and ask the people who installed my stereo system if they would pay for iti paid $430 for this system and all it was, was a new cd/mp3 player and sub/ampi already had to go back because the sub they gave me had a patchthey replaced it .btw when they were done with it my SRS light was on i sat and waited 2 hours for them to finally turn it off and i waited for them to try and fix the clock for them to tell me its probably not even worth fixing after i told them it worked before I‘m pretty angryso my question is am I stuck with the bill or should I ask them to help pay it or all?
F them. tell them that if they dont fix it you will be involving legal help. cuz that's just not right. and agreed with above comment if they dont fix it tell them to take it all out and demand your money back.
Q: Led car headlamps the first generation and the second generation of what is the difference
Lights, only one light-emitting point, and the latest flake COB is 12-18 light spots, due to more light spots, it will be brighter, heat will be faster. Light point is like humans, a person, even if your strength and then big, you and a person and you dial the river, you certainly dial 12-18 individuals.
