- Q: How is the floor greasy?
- There are special cleaning things, I forgot what name, and I also spray a few days ago, and then cleaned.
- Q: I have tile floors and in the middle of the tile in the living room there was carpet. I had the carpet taken out and laminate floors put in. The trim between the tile and the laminate keeps popping out. When I had the flooring guy come out to fix it for the third time he said it was always going to do that because the wood was thicker (higher) than the tile. Is there something else I can do besides this stupid piece of trim?
- As a flooring installer, I have made transitions from tile to laminate hundreds of times. Your flooring guy is either woefully ignorant or doesn't want to fix your problem properly. If the laminate is thicker than the tile, your tile must be quite thin, possibly on a concrete floor without backerboard? If this is the case the difference in height can easily be accommodated by a simple t-molding that will fit between the tile and wood and bridge one to the other. Wooden t-moldings must be nailed to the floor and if your floor is concrete this will require drilling into the concrete and providing dowels to nail into. However you can also buy a 4-in-1 laminate molding at any home improvement store. This 4-in-1 provides not only a t-molding, but two different kinds of reducer that will help you if the height difference between your floors is more than 1/4. This molding works by screwing a track to the floor and then snapping the molding into it. If you would like more specific help, feel free to e-mail.

- This factor usually happens when the foundation floor is not straight , if someone could add extra support from the basement this will even up the floor above, whoever installed your floors was probable off level when they did so, and the only way to fix this would be to remove the boards and work with the sub floor, but .....that's too much work and an extra expense to you unless you still have a valuable warranty , I wouldn't bother otherwise. .
- Q: I have Pergo flooring in my kitchen. a couple pieces in the middle have chipped. any suggestions on how to go about fixing this?? do i need to completely pull up the flooring.? looking for a trick of the trade. :-)thanks in advance
- Other than gluing the chips back in place, the next reasonable solution is to deconstruct the floor to the chipped pieces and rearrange the tiles with the chips somewhere not in the middle, or replace them altogether. If counters were placed on top of the floor, this would be a lot harder.

- Marine ply is way too pricey for me, and stress handled is best if you are expecting termites. I used B/C exterior grade (inside grade plywood will delaminating just about earlier than you get it home), saturated in poly resin (with out catalyst). The top surface, I protected with one layer of fiberglass. It would not must be mounted down; unless you expect to turn the boat the other way up, gravity does an excellent job retaining it down. I elected not to carpet, it's lovely handy to simply hose it down on the finish of the day, and the fiberglass makes a reasonably good non-skid surface. It gets kinda scorching in the summer, I from time to time wet it down. A coat of white paint would make it cooler, but that is quite a lot of hindrance for my historical boat.

- So, you're looking for some hard work, huh? Tear up all of the tile and remove all of the adhesive. Now if this is ceramic tile, you'll really have fun removing all of that thinset mortar. If it's vinyl, it'll still be plenty of hard work with floor scrapers/grinders. All the old adhesive has to come up -- all of it! Then you'll have to start with the staining and polishing process, which costs $3 per foot on a new construction job in Texas. Smaller jobs cost a whole lot more. Good luck!
